VIDEO: Driver given suspended prison sentence after dangerous driving caught on dash cam 5 Mar 2018 (News)
"The footage clearly showed that Schofield deliberately undertook the tipper truck, then for no apparent reason deliberately pulled out into the path of the vehicle and intentionally slammed on his brakes. "Thankfully the driver of the truck was able to stop his vehicle in time and did not collide with Schofield’s car. However, I have no doubt that had it not been for the drivers quick-thinking actions, there could have been a serious collision, and the lives of innocent motorists could have been put at risk." -

A Grand Monday: Austin Maestro 1.6HLS 5 Jan 2015 (News)
Under the bonnet, the car’s been recently serviced – new oil and filter, spark plugs, distributor cap, plus fresh coolant. The brakes have also been given a bit of TLC with new wheel cylinders and brake hoses. According to the vendor, the automatic choke was replaced before he got the car, ‘I’ve replaced and simplified the remaining vacuum hoses.’ There’s plenty of tread depth on the tyres, although we understand one of the wheel bearings is a bit grumbly. -

EC Control Freaks Trying to Impose ISA on Europe 30 Oct 2013 (News)
This would be capable of detecting limits through cameras or satellites and automatically applying the brakes. Existing vehicles could be forced to be retrofitted with the devices. But in trials in the UK ISA was proven to be extremely dangerous. Where a 30, 40 or 50mph road crossed a 70mph motorway, drivers on the motorway were finding their cars suddenly braking to the lower limit. -
Report: Peking to Paris, day 31 28 Jun 2013 (News)
Snow was falling and visibility was down to 15 metres. Glen Duthie in the big black 1939 Cadillac La Salle, car 33, cooked the brakes on a mountain descent, and they were not alone… Rhys Timms and James Stone in the big 1936 MG SA also had issues with no brakes, overheating causes failure of the oil-seals. Andy Actman driving one of the sweep-vehicles reckons it was just “routine problems” and welding up a hub and coming across cars with no brakes was just a typical day. -
MoT Data for Wakefield 6 May 2014 (News)
The most common cause for a failure is lighting and signalling, though it affects 3 per cent fewer cars in WF areas than on average across the nation. The same can't be said for suspension and brakes though, which are 12 and 15 per cent more problematic here than on average, respectively. Top of the manufacturer table is Triumph, but very few were tested. The best performing maker with more than 1000 models tested was Audi, with a pass rate 6 per cent above the national average for Audi models. -
MoT Data for The Outer Hebrides 6 May 2014 (News)
The Outer Hebrides, right in the north of Scotland and exposed to the Atalantic, doesn't do too badly in the grand scheme of things, with a fairly average overall pass rate. That said, the common failure items table reveals that braking and steering related problems cause significantly more failures in HS postcodes than in the average town. The sample size for HS postcodes is smaller than in most areas thanks to the sparse population density. -
MoT Data for Falkirk and Stirling 6 May 2014 (News)
With a lot of twisting country roads in the FK postcode area it’s little surprise that failure rates for suspension and braking components are higher than average and steering suffers, too. All registration years with the exception of 2011 are more likely to fail an MoT when tested in FK postcodes than elsewhere. -

Kia launches Ray as Korea's first electric car 23 Dec 2011 (News)
The Kia Ray EV embodies numerous innovations. The electric motor achieves 93% efficiency, which is the best in its segment. The lithium ion polymer battery's cell is optimised and highly integrated, which has enabled its weight to be reduced by 13% and its energy density to be increased by 15% compared to competitors' systems. The on-board charger, current inverter, high-low voltage converter and EV-specific VCU (vehicle control unit) each features advances over previous equipment. Ray EV is also equipped with a new type of regenerative braking system featuring an Active Hydraulic Booster that utilises the electric motor, instead of the gasoline engine in the regular model, to create hydraulic pressure for the brake system. The result is consistent brake pedal force throughout a wide variety of driving conditions and the ability to harvest excess energy and use it to recharge the car's battery. -

Five-star Volvo XC90 smashes the Euro NCAP test 3 Sep 2015 (News)
However, the new Mazda CX-3 only gained a four-star crash rating along with the Mitsubishi L200. This was because both cars lack standard automatic emergency braking – a feature that’s becoming increasingly common. The L200 doesn’t offer it at all, while according to Euro NCAP the Mazda has it on the options list but expects low take-up. That said, in the UK Mazda's Smart City Brake Support system is listed as standard on mid-level SE-L and top-of-the-range Sport Nav CX-3 models. -

This security prevents the body sliding down in the seat whilst driving; especially when braking hard. (In accidents, car drivers and passengers often sustain more injury to the lower limbs and spine due to slipping under the seatbelt waist strap.) The CG-Lock is designed to fit most vehicles, but is not designed to work with multi-pass seat belt tongue systems. -
