• Gearbox oil (Volvo) - OEM or third party 28 Feb 2005 (Forum)
  I need to change the gearbox oil in my 1998 Volvo S40 T4. Volvo do not recommend a viscosity rating or API spec, they simply state that their own fully-synthetic oil, costing 14 pounds/litre should be used. As money is tight, I am wondering if I can get away with using a third-party oil.

  With regards to the new "floating" centre consoles on the new shape Volvo S40/V50s seen here: http://tinyurl.com/5aat2l (LHD pic I found first!) Can the stereo part at the top still be removed easy enough to allow fitting of a single or double din 3rd party stereo? Has anyone done this?

  I recently bought a Volvo S40 2.0 Diesel with 49k on the clock and a full Volvo service history.  It was last serviced at 46k but the oil does look very black; though I know this is not uncommon with diesels.It's done 50k miles now.

  I've posted elsewhere about getting ride of  my 55 plate Mondeo TDCi 130, which is not wearing its age well. Have looked at a used Volvo V50 1.8S, good, low miles example but worried it might be too small. have now seen, online an 06 Volvo S60 2.4D (the old 163bhp D5) for under £5.5k - but it's done 98K miles. The car looks superb, has FSH, but I've never tried a car with such high miles.

  I am sceptical about the Government's long-awaiting scrappage scheme, but Volvo have sent me an email which caught my eye... In addition to the UK2000 available through the scrappage scheme, Volvo are making a further £2,000 deposit contribution on a new C30, making the headline price just £11,700!
• Volvo V70/XC70 (2000 - 2007) - 7 seat conversion 18 Apr 2008 (Forum)
  Basically Volvo say it should, and a lock barrel should be ordered that matches the main key. The Dealer is arguing against this as unnecessary. Does anyone have a new series V70 estate with 7 seats? Does it have a lock on the tailgate?

  On some Volvos the flame guard could cause problems but I don't think this engine was fitted with one. Does anyone know if there are any weak spots on this engine that might help locate the leak? Engine is the B230ET 160K miles.

  Please could a person with vehicle electrical knowledge advise me? Recently acquired Volvo 240 se number plate lights are not working. Just replaced the two bulb-holding fittings with genuine Volvo spares and replaced bulbs. Everything appears to be slotted in fine. There is continuity across them both, and the fuse has continuity.

  I bought new cars recently and the depreciation hurts, so next time I'm looking at used and these Volvo's seem to be a good deal. Any thoughts? And any people got anything bad to say about the S60?

  My dad has an "M" plate Volvo 440 2 litre auto, which has served him well. He would like to change it for a newer car. The Volvo 70's don't fit in his garage. He needs an auto, would like heated front seats. He will use the car for going to and from his static caravan about 170 miles 12-14 times a year.

  Can anyone give me any advise on whether a volvo 940 2.3 lpt with about 120K on the clock are a decent second car? Belt changed already seems a decent car, what is ownership like in terms of cost and driving? Thank you

  A friend has a V40 Volvo, and driving on dipped lights is akin to using the force, to be honest the main beam isn't that great either. Can any one out there recommend replacment bulbs? I don't really want to take pot luck in Halfords, and risk £40 down the pan if they make no difference.

  I emailed Volvo Sweden who directed me to Volvo UK asking why it could not be serviced or exchanged for a refurbished part as it didn't seem terribly "green" to just replace the telephone module. No beneficial response and no help from the original dealer with a request for a contribution from Volvo.
