  • Vaux Astra G 98 Reg 1.6 16V LS 3 Nov 2004 (Forum)
However, the problem still persists - I checked the spark plugs 2 weeks later & all were slightly sooty and one was oily. I also added STP fuel injector to the petrol tank to clena out the fuel system. Do u think I should do a compression test or could there be a problem with the choice of oil & spark plug? I went to Vauxhall for a diagnostic check which was fine.
  • Rover 420SLDi Turbo 1 Nov 2004 (Forum)
My fuel consumption fluctuates between 57mpg to 45 mpg, the average seems to be ~54mpg. I check by filling the tank to full and doing a calculation against the miles travelled. I travel over 100 miles/day so I have monitored the situation over several weeks.

  • Vectra DI not starting 31 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Disconnected glow plugs- still didn't fire. Remembered that last hesitation on starting was when engine was warm so renewed the fuel filter and seal and all the drain pipes which were hard, difficult to pull off but rotated easily. Still no joy. Check fuel present at pump input but not present at output. Rechecked all fuses - OK.
  • VW Passat Tdi110 Loosing Power 19 Dec 2003 (Forum)
If you accelerate hard in say 3rd gear, as the rev counter reaches about 3000rpm, which must be about maximum boost pressure from the turbo, the engine looses power as though the turbo had been disconnected. I suspect the ECU has detected a problem & restricted the fuel supply. I swopped the Air Flow sensor off my Tdi Golf but symptoms were exactly the same. You can hear the turbo still singing after the power loss but there is obviously not enough fuel reaching the injectors.
  • Old VW Polo cutting out 14 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Any suggestions as to what this could be would be greatly appreciated. The car has a brand new distributor & battery, and on a friends advice, I changed the fuel relay. Otherwise, it is in great nick and is well serviced.
  • Smoother and quieter! 28 May 2003 (Forum)
The recent threads on diesel fuel, fuel additives, wheel balancing and tyre brands prompted me to take some action: 1. Filled up with Shell diesel for a change - I usually use supermaket and BP or Texaco 2. Added a shot of Wynnes diesel injector cleaner 3.
  • Ford TDDi safe bet vs TDCi? 27 May 2003 (Forum)
I read with interest the many tales of poor economy, flatspots, bad or no starting, frequent software updates and fuel filter upgrades that have been required to the Mondeo TDCi (a few also mention similar probs with focus). As much as I'd love to go for one of the TDCis, the problems don't yet appear to be sorted?

  • Golf Engine Harshness ( Rough ) 15 Oct 2002 (Forum)
The garage had rechecked the engine and run some diagnostics but no fault found. I've run a tank of loaded injection cleaner and different fuels. Tick over and starting are perfect, and fuel consumption as before 34/37 mpg. Lambda probe tested OK and all pipes etc are correct. Any ideas welcome Thanks Peter
  • SEAT Leon (1999 - 2005) - 02 Noisy Suspension 6 May 2002 (Forum)
At speeds of 30 to 40 mph over ridges and trenches in road I hear a dong type noise from the rear end of car. 2 dealers have checked it over and cannot identify source. They have only checked hatch, rear seats, spare wheel. I suspect possible fuel tank, loose or baffles inside it or fuel float? Possible noisy shocks, bushes on rear suspension or anti roll bars on car have so far been dismissed by dealers. They advise drive car for few more miles to see if develops.
  • Diesel a bad buy 14 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Consider the cost of glowplugs ,fuelpumps, any engine work due to the close engineering tolerances, air leaks into the fuel system , smell when refueling, the longer warm-up mileage's required before the car heater blows hot ,noise on idle, black clouds of exhaust fumes on full bore excellent, heavier engines, ect Advantages good torque , good fuel economy, good resale?
  • Car breakdown cure ?? 17 Jul 2001 (Forum)
I`ve NEVER heard of this way to clear dirty fuel.. Can anyone explain what it was supposed to do, and explain the theory behind it?? I don`t think it cured the problem as it is still misfiring so it looks as though I`ll have to have a look at it.
  • Water Leaks 19 May 2001 (Forum)
If the car is wet but no water in the boot and I drive the car, water finds it way in. It is always in the same place on the left hand side just under the fuel filler inden. I have checked the sun roof by opening the roof and puting a hose pipe into the drain and left it running I have sprayed water into the fuel filler housing with the flap open and I have sprayed water along the bumper where it meets the rear wheel arch.
