  • Here we go...... 7 Jul 2005 (Forum)
I think an awful lot of the speed limits in this country are a nonsense, and I long for the day when the camera fools stop whining about cameras and work out that the real issue is the speed limits. People with no insurance on their cars should have their car crushed and their licence thrown away. Ditto drink/drivers. The Congestion Charge is a good idea, or at least it would have been if it had been backed by an investment in public transport and out of town, secure, car parking.
  • Change in Breakdown Service 3 Jul 2005 (Forum)
Luckly I was fairly local to my main dealer, but I asked what would happen if I was in the middle nowhere in Scotland, and was told the same rules would apply The driver told me that now that they are a PLC with profit to make fot the shareholders, the accountants have been in and looked at everything that they can cut back !!! No doubt there is cover where I can be towed anywhere, which used to be the case, but you can bet that they want even more money for that!!! My wife had an accident last Novmeber where the car couldn't be driven. They wanted £140 to tow the car home, and wouldn't even come out unless you pay up front with a credit card.
  • Motor Bike Bashing Thread! 6 Apr 2005 (Forum)
So bikers, why do you do this? Have you a death wish? You will always come off second best, even if it is a car driver's error. So why not sit in the line of traffic? Does the huge adrenaline rush you get from swerving in between cars continue on whilst you are lying on the stretcher in the ambulance?
  • Green mould - removal & prevention? 18 Nov 2004 (Forum)
(Ok so it won't be me washing it by hand, I won't be able to) Secondly, there's no garage, car port or any kind of shelter available to put the car into to protect it, are you guys aware of anything else I could use to cover the vehicle to help protect it? Those huge protective sheets are pretty much out of the question, stretching is not at all easy, and the elasticated versions require upper arm strength which I don't have, but maybe there's an improved version out there since I last tried them.
  • Alfa 156 blown spark plug 3 Aug 2004 (Forum)
My alfa 156 suddenly developed a really bad misfire like it was running on 2 cylinders, on opening the bonnet there was a horendous knocking coming from the top of the engine, I removed the engine cover to find it had blown one of the small sark plugs out of the head stripping the thread on the bottom 4 pitches of the plug. I brought this car 2nd hand in march 2003, the car is a 2000 year 156 1.8TS the car has done 40000miles and had yearly service since new, it uses very little oil and has run like a dream no problems.
  • Advice prior to the Service Department 24 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Could someone give me a couple of pointers please. Car in question R reg Honda CRV auto. Milleage just under 45,000. Terrain covered - main roads, but also two daily 11 mile round trips in narrow, hilly and winding lanes - often involving pulling on to the grass verges and braking in the face of oncoming traffic around blind bends (not travelling fast obviously) I've noticed an occasional knock on the nearside front coming from underneath - a sort of cross between a knock and a rattle.
  • VR6 bearing probs - VW dealer negligent? 30 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Their opinion is that the bearing is so worn, that it couldn\'t have been replaced within the last few months. During this time, the car has covered about 4500 miles (total mileage 69600). I am understandably angry with the state of affairs, not to mention very alarmed at the thought of a wheel bearing failing totally at motorway speed, where most of my driving is done.
  • MR2 - Tyre problem 9 May 2001 (Forum)
She took the car to her local garage (independent) and he said that she should take the car to the Toyota dealership because, in his experience, he had not encountered this type of problem before (he said it was not the tracking).
  • Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet - VW Extended warranty issue 28 Jul 2017 (Forum)
Also the gears don't go in easily, especially first and second, as in the gearstick gets stuck roughly halfway between changing from first to second and it needs an extra push to put it in that second gear. I've contacted VW dealers and VW finance and they said they won't know if it's covered under the warranty until they take out a gearbox, and I need to authorise that, so that if they do take out the gearbox and it turns out NOT to be covered under the warranty, then I need to pay them £600 for just that gearbox out.
  • Is Big Brother watching your cars every move? 3 Feb 2020 (Forum)
A few days back I posted in a thread (can't remember which one) that the Mazda USA website revealed their cars there are fitted with Telematic Control Units which are activated by Mazda before delivery and thereafter automatically transmit a vast amount of data back to Mazda. This covers both the functioning of the car and your driving, including GPS data.
  • SEAT Leon - Lease Car Damage noticed after 3 weeks of delivery 15 Oct 2015 (Forum)
This morning when bending down to pick up a toy my daughter dropped on the pavement I noticed a plastic panel hanging down under the rear passenger side area. We took the car to a SEAT garage who put the car on a ramp. It looks like the car has been driven over a bollard or something because there is bad damage to the metalwork under the car, the plastic cover is ripped and only part of it is still attached and hanging down.

  • Renault Grand Scenic MK III 2010 - APPROX repair / diagnostic costs in this list 1 Apr 2023 (Forum)
I'm just trying to get a rough idea at the moment. Any of the areas below you can help with, I'd really appreciate. Thanks. The car is a 2010 MK III Grand Scenic. * Very loud cracking doors - Door strap checks? and likely replacements of parts to 4 doors. * Oil and filter change. * Replacement 'hands free' key card.
  • Honda Civic Hybrid - First Impressions 27 Aug 2022 (Forum)
Although it’s the same 2.0 full hybrid powertrain as the CR-V, it now accelerates more like an EV, and gaining speed now produces a much more muted tone than previously, with simulated gear changes - all electronics as there isn’t a gearbox. It has lost the definite CVT ‘elastic band’ feeling of waiting for the car to catch the revs. There’s a bit of tyre & wind noise, but easily masked by the Bose stereo in the Advance trim. Fit and finish are what’s expected of a Honda, and it’s a very agreeable place to cover a couple of hundred miles, something you can’t always say of full hybrids.
  • Ford Fiesta - Door won't open from outside 26 Dec 2020 (Forum)
Ford on Twitter, say they are unaware, like the agent. Perhaps it's  case of 'well they would say that, wouldn't they ?' The car runs so well, but I am losing confidence in it. At least the cover for the fuses has not fallen off lately, thanks to Blu-Tack.  Wonder if anyone else has experienced this ?
  • Lexus LS430 - Driving to Europe in an old large engine Lexus 4.3 24 Aug 2018 (Forum)
So on a last minute impulse I have just booked a ferry trip to France in my 2002 Lexus LS 4.3 litre an old beast which hasn’t been in use for a while now . Now I have just realised that there may be some additional issues with driving a large engine car. Apart from getting the warning triangle, breathalysers, spare bulbs and high visibility jacket... Would there be anything else that is required? Or any precautions? Or any areas to avoid? Running through a last minute checklist as below MOT- Yes Recent service -Yes Insurance-Yes Breakdown cover-Yes Lights -working Any areas I should avoid.
  • 2015 Nissan Qashqai 1.2 DIG-T - Safety Issue - Rear Disc Brakes 12 Oct 2017 (Forum)
The dealer has said the vehicle is not safe to use, the brake pads are completely worn away, and the discs heavily scored. We are therefore left with no option but to leave the car at the dealership. Nissan UK have confirmed that this is consistent with normal wear and tear and therefore not covered under warranty. The cost of repair is £245.00 + VAT = £294.00.
  • Parking Charge Notice 10 Feb 2017 (Forum)
They have then said they will reduce the charge to £20.00 to cover administration costs they've incurred in issuing the PCN. Now, in my eyes, this acts as though the company have admitted I paid and are just attempting to get money out of me - do I actually need to pay this £20.00?
  • Hyundai i30 - Rear wiper not working 8 Feb 2016 (Forum)
The 15A fuse tests OK 2. When the rear wiper is switched on, we can hear a relay clicking in the nearside rear of the car, somewhere between the boot and the rear passenger seat. 3. I removed the boot lid inside cover and the wiper motor is not making any noise at all.
  • Oil Change - Recommended or Interim? 26 Jul 2015 (Forum)
My 3 series (320d, '64) has now covered just over 9k miles with no issues at all.  The on board computer is telling me that there's another 9k or 1 year to go before I have it serviced. I must admit to being slightly nervous about that as previous diesels I have owned I have made sure that the oil has been changed every 8-10k miles.
