  • Christmas gift guide: The handiest in-car gizmos and tech 17 Nov 2014 (News)
At the top end of the scale there are head units with built in navigation and even DVD players, plus there are systems designed to plug into upgraded speakers. Enthusiasts will plumb in amplifiers to drive subwoofers for bass, along with extra tweeters and more powerful speakers - there’s no real upper limit of what can be achieved, but it comes at a cost. That said, it’s probably best to keep it simple for a gift.

Later owned by a Mr Lloyd of Langport, the car was laid-up on his retirement from driving. Subsequently discovered in storage, the car was registered at Swansea and was later purchased by the vendor. Some work has been carried out on the car but it remains essentially as found. Estimate is a reasonable £2,750.

  • Used Van Buying Guide: Transit Connect 2002-2014 20 Nov 2019 (News)
There’s been problems related to injectors, Ford having issued a Technical Service Bulletin in 2012 relating to engines built between 2008/09. They can fail, causing hesitancy when driving, and resulting in a sizeable bill - around £1500. Other niggling issues relating to this engine include oil leaks and auxiliary failures, but the reality is Ford’s diesels are no worse (and arguably better) in this regard over its rivals.
  • Amazingly Diverse Entry in Historics 13th July Classic Car Auction 28 Jun 2019 (News)
.  1979 Alfasud 1.5 Sprint. Back in the 1970s the Alfasud was the finest handling front wheel drive you could buy and the Alfasud Sprint was the best of the best. Golf GTIs were quicker on the straights, but left in the dust on the corners. Sadly they were built of flawed Russian steel and could dissolve before your very eyes.
  • Campervanning: Is winter the new summer? 17 Mar 2015 (News)
‘We’ is my family and I. My wife and our two kids, aged seven and five. Initially our intention was to drive to the south-west of Scotland and imbibe some of the beauty of the Lowlands, but flash flooding prevented that. Again, it’s February. So, instead, we pitched up closer to home, at a lovely little campsite in Northumberland almost on the banks of Bolam Lake.

Colin Brown, OFT’s director of consumer policy “It’s important in the current economic climate to get value for money and Motor Codes has worked hard to drive up standards for consumers in the new car sector. Consumers who use a Motor Codes subscriber signed up to an OFT-approved code can be confident of receiving a high standard of customer service.” Paul Everitt, SMMT chief executive “We are proud to have been the first industry which delivered a code of practice that achieved full OFT approval and are delighted that Motor Codes has taken on a broader role of self-regulation for the sector.

A 2004/54 LandRover Discovery 3 TDV6 7-seater auto with leather and satnav confounded its critics by clocking up 113k miles, some of it with some sort of trailer behind, yet still raised a solid £20,200.
  • Auction Report Double Bill – eBay 8th May 2005 11 May 2005 (News)
When Volvo tried to shed its dowdy image in the early 90s it went touring car racing with the then-new 850 T5 estate. This car caused a stir which was heightened by Clarkson driving it through a quarry with bonfires everywhere. A very well cared version of the cream yellow T5R estate was sold for a lot of money on the bank holiday. A 1995M with a total of 195,000 miles under its tyres made a massive £6,000.

  • Alpine triumphs at Concours de l’Ordinaire 14 Aug 2018 (News)
While those events have their very obvious place in our classic car world, we were keen to increase the profile and awareness of the new all-too-forgotten ordinary cars to whom a large majority of people can truly relate; the first car you drove, your parent’s car or simply the car you admired on your neighbour’s drive.' Angus continues, 'We wanted to create the ultimate automotive nostalgia trip and elevate the standing of these unexceptional and long-forgotten vehicles that used to form an important part of every British high street but have all but now disappeared.
  • Car Auction Prices Remain Unusually High For September 21 Sep 2012 (News)
Volvo V60s aren’t yet booked, so £14,700 was probably right for the 61 reg 1.6 DRIVe. But top trade book for a 2012/61 Skoda Octavia 1.6TDI CR 105 DSH Elegance estate is £13,400. So why did someone pay £13,900 for one with a damaged and badly repainted roof? (As usual, ‘s’ means sold. ‘p’ means top provisional bid, ‘pc’ means provisional, but close. ‘n/s’ means not sold. ‘n/w’ means miles not warranted. ‘MNW’ means unknown mileage. ‘dmg’ means damaged.
