Almera 12v socket not working 6 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Hi, I wonder if anyone can help with advice on a small problem with my otherwise-briliant Nissan Almera: an uncooperative 12v socket. I hadn't bothered with it so far, but set off last week on a long journey (900 miles in 4 days) and tried to plug in the charger I'd bought for my Nokia mobile phone. -
Who said Japanese cars are reliable! 30 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Hi All, Will my 53 plate Nissan Primera 2.2 DCI SVE broke down for the second time last week requiring RAC call out. The RAC thought it was a failed starter motor but dealer said its a poor earth. Once they got it started they said how noisy the engine is and rung me to say the timming chain was due to brake anytime so now I have been 3 days so far with car off the road. -
Advice on replacing car in Dec. 9 Sep 2005 (Forum)
As many would know I am still using my Nissan QX. However, due to 1) constant nagging by my mum that my car does not look presentable at work 2) car being over 10 year old now (1995 N-reg) and 3) hopefully passing my final charter accountant exam and therefore a promotion, I would hopefully be getting a newer car and pass my QX to my girlfriend :-) I have limited my choice as follows (I have driven both and I liked the drive of both); a) 2002 Ford Mondeo TDCI GHIA X manual b) 2002 BMW 525d SE auto with leather Both would be 100k miles, ex-company car at auction, probably bought through Joe Dowd. -
Breakdown Services and priorities 29 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Any senior backroomers know how they prioritise the calls they get.I know that pregnant women and children get the highest priorities but would the nature of the vehicles fault or its location have any role in it. Also any ideas on the possible reason for this happening? P.S-The car in question-a 1999 1.6 Nissan Almera GX. -
Mazda 323 v Ibiza/Civic/Corolla/Almera 16 May 2005 (Forum)
Top of the current list is the Mazda 323 but she's also considering the Seat Ibiza (but with a list of possible faults/problems as long as my phone bill I'm not convinced), Toyota Corolla, Honda Civic and Nissan Almera. There is no rush as she doesn't use the car all that often and we'd both rather she got the right car and kept it for some time so, if there are any 323 owners out there (past or present) what's the car and ownership experience like. -
Best Auto MPV 9 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Well she's a good old gal so the cash will flow to help her but it got me thinking..... which is always dangerous I know. The wife has that Nissan Almera auto but has been keen on exploring a combined car. I am perhaps tempted by a newer Discovery automatic. I know they are hopeless on economy but I do find myself needing sonething to tow a trailer on occasions and I like the Discovery, and it would reduce our car count. -
Mk 5 Golf - Media bias 20 Aug 2004 (Forum)
Surely a discounted 'A' class Mercedes is better value than a slim discount Golf? Even more annoying are the Golf's 'understated' looks. From the front it looks EXACTLY like my Nissan Almera Tino, a car which was religously dismissed for being boring. Can't beat a bit of badge bias can you? If you don't believe me check out the next Tino you see and mentally compare. (If you can find a Tino that is..) -
Audi A6 MMI 2 Aug 2004 (Forum)
This is another of those 'control everything with one button' jobs that BMW had a go at. The only one I have had any success with is Nissan's N-Form - which seems to work reasonably well. The Audi effort is awful, and IMHO borders on being a driving harzard since doing something simple (e.g. trying to play a CD) is inordinately involved and hence distracting. -
Removing cat convertor 31 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I'm in New Zealand and they don't currently test emissions (although they will do in a few years time). Therefore its legal to remove the cat. Anyway, I've got a 1995 Nissan Skyline 2.5GTS, and have got the car booked in next week to remove the cat convertor and replace it with a straight pipe. The Cat temperature sensor will be grounded to earth so the warning light won't come on. -
Family car for £4000 11 Dec 2003 (Forum)
I have so far narrowed my selection down to: Ford Mondeo (Petrol) Citroen Xantia (Diesel) Vauxhall Vectra (Petrol or Diesel) Nissan Primera (Petrol or Diesel) I want the car to be no more than 4 years old and I am not too fussed about the mileage, so long as there is a FSH and the car is in good condition. I would like to buy from a garage to get the piece of mind of a warranty. -
Insurance - total loss: what will I get? 22 Dec 2002 (Forum)
to the cost to replace? 3) if I'm really not happy with the offer, where can I take it further? 4) The car is (was) a Nissan Primera 1999/V 47,00 miles 1600 Si, grey metallic, all standard fittings, fsh, very nice condition (before the crash!) - what can I expect to be offered and what should I be really looking at as a replacement value, and what do folks think I'm likely to get? -
ANY - Briefing document MG Rover prior to collapse. 12 Mar 2022 (Forum)
MG Rover will not be one of these, just as Luton and Dagenham did not survive. This is not a blow to the UK motor industry. If the most efficient plants of Nissan, Honda, or Toyota closed or scaled down it would be a blow. But it is a blow to the people employed by the plants that close, and the people employed by the companies that supply those plants. -

Why do you run so many cars? 5 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Thirdly, we have the van. Yes I am alias - WHITE VAN MAN - coming to a contraflow near you with attitude! This LWB Nissan Primastar is great for my work. I can fit all my tools and materials in there. What doesn't go in the van will fit on top. However, to use it as a family car I would have to remove my tools from it every time I took the family out. -
Big SUV-type cars - - not dead yet 1 Oct 2023 (Forum)
A typical morning dog walk would see many from Toyota - Highlander, Venza, Sequoia, Sienna, 4Runner; Nissan Armada and the ubiquitous Honda Odyssey, plus the odd Honda Pilot. American offerings seem to be in the minority, e.g. GMC Yukon and Chevy Suburban, but then this is a large Asian community. There is the odd Land/Range Rover (they look small here) and so far I have spotted just one Aston Martin DBX and one black RR Cullinan - which from behind looked very much like a large London taxi! -
Volkswagen Tiguan - Tiger Iguana Auto Alternative Please 4 Aug 2022 (Forum)
I've had it a year, and although it's okay, I'm a bit worried about what I've read about DSG gearboxes being pretty rubbish and expensive to repair. Not to mention that it drives pretty bad too. Used to have a Nissan X-Trail (manual, 2008) prior to the Jag and loved it. Loads of space and drove way better than the Tiguan. Managed to get a two seater sofa in the back and a three seater on the roof rack once! Anyways, I need to be able to get stuff in the back and the Tiguan is pretty rubbish at that too. -
Juke or yeti? - Best larger reliable car on a budget 24 Jul 2022 (Forum)
I am considering selling my Yaris and getting a bigger slightly newer car such as a Skoda Yeti or a Nissan Juke I think I would get around £4,000 to £5,000 for my Yaris and I was hoping to get a newer car for no more than say £11-12,000.Ideally I would like an Automatic this time with some mod cons like heated seats parking camera bluetooth etc but I also want it to be very reliable and relatively cheap to run and maintain, thank you -
Kia Niro Plug-in Hybrid - Plug in Hybrid - a few real time statistics. 23 Sep 2019 (Forum)
Have had our ex -demo Kia Niro Plug - in Hybrid for nearly 6 weeks now and done just over 1500 miles So far very satisfied - very comfortable and excellent driving position. Only real gripe is the boot - having had a Nissan Note with its wonderfuuly flexible system, I miss the flexibility. Fuel consumption - wise, I charge up the battery once below half charge and always before a long run. In the time we have had the car, we have done 540 miles pure electric - when on electric only trips, the computer shows 999mpg!! -
New car for the Mrs 5 Jul 2019 (Forum)
Either that or buy another reliable Yaris. Here’s the line up: - Fiat 500x - Honda Civic - Mazda 2 - Mini 5dr - Nissan Juke We like the 500x but it sure on reliability, Civic is safe bet, Mazda 2 fine but same size as Yaris, Mini is good but parts and servicing is a bit expensive, love the Juke cos of its higher ride can get a good spec for money. -
Vauxhall Meriva - Folding front passenger seat - more info please 8 Jan 2018 (Forum)
I'm interested in the older Meriva, but am not sure if it will be big enough to accommodate the gear I carry (I might have to go a bit bigger and get a Nissan Tino, Focus estate, Citroen Picasso etc.). I read that the front passenger seat In the Meriva will fold flat but I'm wondering in what way exactly it folds, ie. does the backrest fold all the way back or forward?
