Breakdown Services and priorities - JohnX
Sudden change in temperament of all my indicators, has happened once while driving on an A road. All four of them stopped working, did not respond to the indicator stalk, however the bulbs themselves were working since pressing the hazard control turned them on.

However after stopping and turning on the engine again somehow they started working again!Thankfully.

If this were to happen again while on a long trip, what would your suggested course of action be??

1)Stop on the roadside immediately and call for breakdown services.
2)Keep going until the next exit driving on to a quieter road, then call for breakdown services.

In the second alternative, would that be construed as an instance of putting others at risk?

Alternatively is this a valid indication to call for the breakdown services and would they place this lowest on their priority of emergencies, meaning many hours spent waiting for them??

Any senior backroomers know how they prioritise the calls they get.I know that pregnant women and children get the highest priorities but would the nature of the vehicles fault or its location have any role in it.

Also any ideas on the possible reason for this happening?

P.S-The car in question-a 1999 1.6 Nissan Almera GX.

why call breakdown service if you can fix it yourself, resetting by switching the engine off and on

get it into a garage to fix

no idea why a lady broken down somewhere safe should get a faster response than a bloke on a dodgy estate, political correct bad idea but what can we do?

This may sound like a bit of an anti-social idea, but if mine stopped working I don't think I would be in a rush to call a breakdown service. I would just keep driving without using them.

Sorry if that's seen as bad form but I don't see why my indicators are *essential* to complete my journey if I drive carefully. Brakes, steering, tyres etc. all a different matter, but indicators, I would just keep going and book it into a garge as soon as was convienient, certainly wouldn't risk my life by pulling onto a hard shoulder or stopping somewhere dodgy.

Aren't hand signals still allowed by law instead of indicators?

multitudes of people get by every day without indicators anyway !

To be stuck without lights at all at night/in poor weather would be reason to call them out, but I wouldn't bother just for indicators

Just use hand signals.

Unless you are driving a BMW in which please check in for psychiatric evaluation - what are you doing near the indicator controls?

is this a valid indication to call for the breakdown services

The last time I had to call the AA, the patrolman told me that his previous call had been to fill a woman's windscreen washer bottle. Said he could not refuse, since the car was unsafe without washers.
