  • Question to Passat owners about... 2 Nov 2003 (Forum)
I've had it checked by VW who say there is no problem, but I'm not convinced since I had a temp gauge problem which according to them did not exist but I changed the temp sensor and the problem is sorted. VW also told me to expect between 26-30mpg around town, is that accurate? On a run from London to Luton I averaged 33mpg on the short run computer reading, but the long term readings increased my mpg from 22 to 23. I wonder if the mpg I am getting is normal or could there be a fault somewhere?

  • Vauxhall Vectra Diesel overheating 7 Aug 2003 (Forum)
Hi folks, please help, I am really puzzled. About 4 weeks ago my 2.0DI Vectra started running hot, gradually it got worse, until it eventually was undriveable. I checked for mixing of fluids etc but seamed ok, I replaced the stat, but no joy. But any hint of a hill or acceleration it would get really hot.
  • Intermittent ABS fault 26 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Further to Peter D thread of 2Aug02, I also have a 1995 VW golf GTI 8v with an intermittent ABS problem. I purchased the car at 3 years old having been previously run by an office colleague as a lease company car.The problem will only manifist itself in one way. The ABS warning lamp illuminates after driving for 40 minutes for no apparent reason and at the same time the ABS pump starts running.
  • Fiesta rs turbo problems 11 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Hi, i have just bought a fiesta rs turbo and it was running fine till the other day. i was sitting on the carriageway and it started to give a misfire when i put my foot down. i got it home and left it over night. now if i start it up it runs for about 2 minutes then just cuts out .... if i drive it, and put my foot down to quickly i get a bad misfire and the car seems to kick back. if i am gentle with the pedal i can get some boost off the turbo but if im too hasty it just shakes and kicks back. if i'm pullling away from junctions i have to give it high revs and pull away on the clutch or it stalls. i took it to a mechanic, he changed the fuel filter as it was full of dirt, and he said the pipe to it was kinked. i dont know where to start with it really so if anyone has any suggestions i would be reall grateful. someone suggested to me it could be the fuel pump?
  • Mondeo Automatic - 2.0 or 2.5 9 Apr 2003 (Forum)
Anyway, come September I am handing it back to the HP company, having achieved 50% of the payments. I want to replace it with something a little smaller, hopefully cheaper to buy and run, but with the luxuries like leather etc. I have become used to. The Volvo is a manual, but I'd like to switch to an auto. Anyway, should I go for a 2.0 or 2.5 Ghia X Auto? Clearly, the 2.0 will be cheaper to insure and run, but is it underpowered with an auto box?

  • Volvo 360 GLE MOT problem 5 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Also one of the rear shocks is leaking and there is play in one of the steering arms. I'd quite like to keep it as the car runs really well, has a/c factory fit, leather etc. and I've just spent about 200 on getting injectors/exhaust etc and the engine running really sweet again. The shocks and the steering I can fix, (do you reckon it needs a new rack or just a track end?)
  • andrew moorey & mondeo pinking 28 Dec 2002 (Forum)
have searched the old backroom to your thread about mondeo pinking as I am stuck with the following- 95 1.8 zetec mondeo, pinks really bad during hot weather, but only after the 1st intial start up & run, the next run(s) after engine is up to temp allways produces terrible pinking unless you use minimal throttle opening. during cooler weather & at night no pinking. have replaced the engine coolant sensor, checked the grey "fusible diode" (ford parts description!)
  • Mondeo starting problem 19 Dec 2002 (Forum)
The dealer tell me they checked the glow plugs compression etc and that the fault was a diaphragm on the fuel pump, £140. this made no difference at all, after various other checks they decided that the fuel injector pump is faulty but due to the costs involved suggested I run the car as it is. I would welcome any advise, I honestly believe that the dealer is guessing, although the car has done 140k miles the fuel pump was replaced by them some 19 months ago, and apart from this problem the car runs very well and returns some 50mpg.
  • zx engine problems 10 Dec 2002 (Forum)
Hi, can anyone help with this? Just had head gasket on Citroen ZX 1.4 (petrol/carb) replaced and since then has begun to run roughly, with following symptoms: - starts from cold OK but idling rough, needs a bit of coaxing to keep going - the following has just started over last 2 days - once engine warm and choke in, suddenly starts misfiring and hesitating on acceleration, usually ending up with engine stalling.
  • Dodgy Mk2 Golf Electrics 14 Nov 2002 (Forum)
I've got the old Golf ('88 1.6) back on the road with a combination of my hard work, money and the local garage and its running well, touch wood. There is something that annoys me that I noticed last night - it seems that the electrics will be "on" after switching off - the wipers, the radio, even the brake lights will come on if you hit the pedal while the engine is off.

  • VW vr6 engine - Knock sensor leaking coolant? 21 Dec 2020 (Forum)
Struggling to find a coolant leak. It's a slow drip, when engine running it's faster.  Looks like it may be coming from the knock sensor. Anyone else had this? Do I have to replace the sensor?
  • Renault Captur - DPF Regen 10 Oct 2020 (Forum)
Has anyone here any current or recent experience of running a Renault/Nissan with a DPF equipped 1.5dci? It’s a fifth injector set up, so regen diesel injection can’t dilute the engine oil, and I’m looking for real world experience of the frequency of regenerations.
