ID3 initial impressions. 26 Sep 2025 (Forum)
It’ll cost buttons to fuel, and it cost nearly £20,000 less than its new price at less than 3yrs old with 18,000 miles up and it looks like a new car. It comes with 2yrs VW warranty, 5yrs battery pack cover, 2yrs Mot cover and 2yrs servicing for £99 extra. All in a good buy compared to a more expensive used Golf. I’ll report back once I’ve switched off the unnecessary and distracting lane assist nonsense and had a drive without it trying to veer me into hedges. -

Nissan Qashqai - Pitted brake discs on 4 year old car 11 Jun 2016 (Forum)
He said this is normally caused by a car standing unused for a long period of time - we were aware that Qashqai had been exchanged months before we bought it. He also said it's extremely unlikely they would have gone from decent condition to that bad since we bought the car 5 months ago, carrying out regular drives totalling around 3k miles I called the dealership to advise these findings and they basically said sorry but it passed out multipoint check before we gave you the car and they would have noticed if there was an issue with the brakes and we'd still have to pay to resolve the issue. -
Next car - haven't bought it yet! - Extended warranty - what's it like? 28 Jan 2015 (Forum)
Hello I am looking for my next used car on the private market. I have never used an extended warranty before, wondered if it would be worth it, and what other people's experiences were, good and bad. As 10-year old cars are so much more money to buy these days it makes things quite a bit more risky. -
Mazda 3 TS diesel - Mazda 3TS 2010 model - engine failure at 33k miles 27 Nov 2013 (Forum)
The car was running like a dream and my husband checks oil every 2 weeks. It is always fine. 4 months later and the car suddenly starts making ticking noise which seemed to get louder when revving engine at a junction. -

Hit by uninsured driver 7 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Hi, I was hit by an uninsured driver and my car was written off. The uninsured/unlicenced party overtook on a bend, crashed into the car I was following, then spun into me. My car was extensively damaged, and also caught fire resulting in a total loss. -
Loses Car For No UK Licence 8 Feb 2009 (Forum)
The 25-year-old Argentina international was stopped by traffic officers on the M60 near Stretford, Greater Manchester. His car has been impounded. Police said they pulled his car over, suspecting the tinting on its windows was too dark. Tests at the roadside showed the tint was illegal, police said. "Shortly after 0920 GMT on Friday officers pulled over a Bentley close to junction 7 of the M60," said a police spokesman. -
Roadworthy - what does this mean in terms of law? 15 Jan 2009 (Forum)
What would happen legaly if you're car had a fresh MOT with no advisories and the brakes failed a week later. Who's fault is that? Surely the law takes circumstances into account? Person A has a crash brakes deemed faulty, car has done 20,000 miles since last MOT without a service Person B brakes fail one month after the MOT, only 200 miles covered by then brakes felt fine to to the owner. -
When are car importers going to reduce packaging 11 Jun 2008 (Forum)
Some manufacturers have a wax protection which is either washed off with a hot water pressure wash using Gas Oil to heat producing carbon or a special acid has to be used first to dissolve the wax then pressure wash with Hot water. So when are the car manufacturers going to get rid of the plastics/poly/wax covering to protect their cars just for you, so you can have gleeming shiny new car and contribute to the reductions in Carbon Emissions along with everybody else. -

New Square Car for Women 21 Aug 2006 (Forum)
It's just too pretty and effeminate. Perhaps I'm too set in my ways in believing car mags should look a bit butch, but I'm looking at the cover with it's white border and artsy photography and it's just screaming "interior design/photography magazine" at me. Barlow makes a comment at the bottom of his intro "You will not be able to confuse CAR magazine for any other title out there" Damned right, boyfriend. -
I've not even driven my car 100 miles! 10 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I bought a car 6 weeks ago - it was a cat C car and was immaculate with only 15000 miles on the clock . I literally drove it for two weeks not even doing 100 miles - when it overheated. The message said stop the car and so my husband stopped the car waited for it to cool down - (and the message to go off) he added some water and finished his journey - the message came on again at the end of the journey. -
Who has either given or received a car as a gift? 13 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I wasn't thinking of such gifts between close family members, but I have often seen cars offered or asked for via Freecycle. I have even seen some cars (in ropey condition)offered for 1p first come first served on E bay - not even covering the listing fee! So, have any of you given, or received a car, and was it on balance of benefit to the recipient or was it a white elephant? -
Two questions... 12 Dec 2001 (Forum)
2.d) Leave the windows open a couple of millimetres to allow airflow. What about airflow to the boot, given that the car is a 2 door saloon and the rear seets do not fold down? 2.e) Should I cover the car with an old sheet, or might this trap any moisture in the garage against the car? Thank you very much in advance. -
Audi Allroad TDi test drive 28 Apr 2004 (Forum)
On the lighter cars, the plastic roof cover (there to prevent scratching when taking this beast off-road) is fairly inconspicuous. On a darker car it sticks out like a sore thumb. On to the inside; the brochure really fails to sell the two-tone interior but in reality the beige leather with beige and mid-brown dash/doors works extremely well. -
Thinking about changing 4 Jun 2018 (Forum)

BMW 5 series F10 535d - How often should I change the oil 1 Feb 2016 (Forum)
When I dropped it off on the day the receptionist again insisted the work wasn't necessary and I was told that BMW would not normally carry out unnecessary work. As they had agreed to book in the car they then agreed to undertake it. Actual charge £210. I intend to service this car optimally and keep it for 10 years and 180-200,000 miles, can you advice the optimal oil change frequency - 7000 miles, 10,000, or advised by BMW. -
Ford Focus Zetec 1.6 2007 - Is my warranty worth keeping? 8 Aug 2015 (Forum)
Hi Folks Just wondering what the forum thinks about repair warranties for used cars. I've had a warranty since about 2008, covering first a Meriva and then my current car, an 07 Focus that I bought in 2010. The warranty costs 21 quid a month, the excess on any claim is 50 quid and I've claimed once in seven years for a new coil on the Meriva. -
330ci - Doubt about warranty AA 9 Jul 2015 (Forum)
They were ordering the part (ABS pump) and booking me in for 2 days time early morning matching the part ETA to the garage Tomorrow is when i have to get the car back into the garage for the repair. My warranty has not called me back still. I have told so to the guy of the garage and he got prestige car warranty to call me and saying the same thing: not a penny for me.
