Warranty Direct - is it worth buying? 21 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I've been quoted £390 for a year's Gold Star cover on my 2001 BMW 530i. The cover seems quite comprehensive. I'd like to know of anyone's experiences of Warranty Direct when it came to actually making a claim. Did they refuse it, drag their feet or whatever? Some people reckon these warranties (not necessarily Warranty Direct) are not worth the paper they're written on. -
Long Way Round 6 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Thoroughly enjoyed watching Ewan McGregor and Charley Boorman heaving their BMWs across central Asia - if you think our roads are bad, have a look at Mongolia. Can anyone identify the little grey van that seemed to manage the near impossible Siberian terrain (albeit with substantial amount of help at times). -

Run-flat tyres and puncture repairs 2 Aug 2005 (Forum)
The new generation of these tyres - as fitted to BMW 1 & 3 series - are good for up to about 150 miles when punctured. As I understand it, you should then get a new tyre ( ££ - yelp ! ) because of the strain that has been put on the sidewall. My question is this: would it be a good idea to have the tyres filled with that stuff that seals punctures, such as Pro-tex ? -

does anyone know where I can get replacement cup holders for BMW 02 5 series. One of the arms on the drivers side is broken and therefore it does not click shut into place.BMW dealers ask £30 which is quite a whack for some plastic cup holder,I feel.Is it easy to replace DIY. thanks -
Volvo S80 reliability 28 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Is it just restricted to that particular year or are all of them a bit suspect? Which model is thought to be the best and how does it stack up against a BMW 5 series, which could be an alternative choice. How do the servicing costs compare? -
Better looking estates 20 Jul 2003 (Forum)
What estate cars look better than the saloon or hatch they are based on. My list is Rover 75, New Avensis, Alfa 156, most BMW touring(s), most volvos, new mondeo. And I always loved the look of the old rover 3.5 when they had the non standard estate conversion. -
528, 9-5 aero, xj8 or 320 Merc. 30 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I prefer a manual but would obviously have to go auto for some of above. I am tempted by the 9-5 aero, not so keen on the Merc & BMW bad/smug image. Would the Jag be too expensive compared with the rest. What does anybody think. -

Hi Can anyone recommend a quality car for someone who is semi retired that wishes to indulge himself in a bit of second hand luxury :-) I am over 50 and drive infrequently (Shops or the odd run from Cornwall to Kent) Big cars are preferred but my knowledge of BMW's etc is slim. Comments welcome. Budget £10000 Thanks Neil -
South African production of German marques 22 Dec 2001 (Forum)
Is it true that all RHD current model Mercedes and BMW for the UK market are manufactured in South Africa? When did this start? Can I get a Mercedes built in Germany if I collect it personally from the Sindelfingen plant? Is there any way of telling where a car was built from its chassis number? -

What do I choose? 16 Sep 2001 (Forum)
I can afford more than in previous years, but I still want the economy of a diesel and good residual value. I have test driven a Peugeot 206cc and 307, Renault Laguna and Scenic and a BMW Compact. What shall I choose? -
All makes and models - All cars are unreliable according to this site 11 Aug 2016 (Forum)
Then I decided on a VW Golf 1.4 auto petrol TFSI, but read, on here, the same issues. Then I looked at a BMW 1 and 3 series, too many issues. Doesn’t matter what car I look at, they are all riddled with issues. I’m almost thinking of buying a Ford Capri 2.8 injection from 1979, with no sensors, electric or other stuff to go wrong, but they are all rusty ;) I recently sold my BMW M5 as it always cost stupid money to fix when it went wrong, and it was getting on a bit anyway. -
21 Cent. Bike touring - it still works ! 12 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Ergonomically designed for the bike, forgot it was there - swallowed clothing and books. Good choice. Triumph Boots, Triumph branded gloves. Cheaper than the equivalent BMW kit, the boots are identical to the BMW models, not seen the gloves in BMW brand both items however comfy enough to forget about them Shoei Helmet. Hated it - had it a couple of years with really annoyingly discomfort to my ear. -
Volvo V60 - The first 10,000 miles 25 Jul 2017 (Forum)
I suppose there was also a thought that - as I'll probably keep this one for more than the usual 3 years or so - a Volvo might age better than a VW Group product. A BMW X1 would have suited, but my usual method of getting a quote from a broker and seeing if the local dealer can match it didn't work, as BMW (at least at the beginning of this year) weren't talking to brokers. -
BMW 1 Series E81/E87 (2004 - ) - 120D SE : 6000 mile ownership report 20 Oct 2007 (Forum)
It took two visits to the dealer to have it fixed under warranty, however, which was somewhat irritating. AM radio reception is also poor, but that is the norm for BMWs in my experience. In summary, the 1-series is in many ways a sports car masquerading as a family hatchback. The new 3-door and coupe models may suit the car?s character much better than its original incarnation as a 5-door hatchback. -
