Hired Driver with illegal Trade Plates 31 Oct 2022 (Forum)
She has opted to go to court as she is claiming that the driver and his company misled her into believing that by using the trade plates everything was covered. She has had to pay to remove her truck from storage and get another company to drive it back to the Port. What does the law say in such an instance. Can 2 people be charged for the same offence, can she be said to have allowed the driver to drive her truck without insurance? -

Hyundai i10 mark II - i10 Rear Discs corroded 19 Mar 2020 (Forum)
Within the first two years the rear pads were binding and were sorted out under warranty. I took the car back in to have them checked later in the first two years noting the "achilles heal" comment about the i10, but I was too early & the garage advised the wheels weren't binding. Now at 2 1/2 years old it has badly corroded rear discs. -
Ford Galaxy - STILL no aircon since March! Ford Warranty? 29 Jul 2018 (Forum)
All they can say is that they are escalating the issue to their parts team. What legal rights do I have to a reasonable resolution time on a warrantly covered item? Whilst I know it's not safety critical, and doesn't disable the car, driving a mobile greenhouse in this heatwave is extremely uncomfortable with 5 kids and a dog. All 4 windows open on motorways is not pleasant. -

Breakdown charges 3 Apr 2014 (Forum)
A few months ago I was involved in a hit and run, the drivers side window shattered whilst I was driving my car, the wing mirror was hit by an oncoming truck. Needless to say I got cuts from the shattered glass. A lady called the police for me and the officer took all the details, contacted my insurance company and breakdown service, Green Flag. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 06 1.6TDCi - DPF replenish 14 Sep 2013 (Forum)
Anyway, I bought the car with over 38k on the clock and having looked at the log book Arnold Clarke did a service at 38k. They have confirmed this DPF replensih was not done on that service as recommended by ford ("3rd service or 37500") - have I got a case to bill them for it?? -
Golf 1.4 TSi - Timing chain stretched 2 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Rang VW customer service who denied any problem, said part is only guarenteed for as long as the warranty of three years and though it could last longer that's not covered by warranty. When I mentioned this was a known fault and did some research on the internet she said that meant nothing and people on internet could be making it up. They make thousands of cars and we shoudl be aware that any part can just fail, we cannot assume they should last. -
Fiesta R reg - Small collision - now claiming whiplash. 19 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I went into the back of her, if smashed my headlight and there was no damage to her vechicle. She requested that nothing was done through insurance, which i said was fine and that i would cover the damage done to my car. Now i have received contact from my insurance (aviva) about an 'alledged road traffic accident'. I spoke to my insurance and asked that they clarify what was going on, and was informed that the person was claiming for whiplash through a solicitor or what have you. -
Volkswagon Golf 1.4 E Y reg 2000 - Advice 6 Feb 2013 (Forum)
l have read that the 1.4 & 1.6 models have suffered from the plastic/nylon tension pully on the cam belt shattering. As this car has covered 77K, with no record of a change & l believe the recommended change is 80K or 4 years, would contributors opinion be to get this changed asap? Secondly, there are a couple of niggly things we have found & before we start to investigate, it would be useful for some hints & tips; these are:- 1. -
Citroen C3 2006 - Engine warming lamp - Anti Pollusion Fault 31 Jan 2013 (Forum)
I phoned same garage to get this looked at again and they're saying £90 minimum to have it looked at, if it's same problem it will be free else it will be the £90 + repair. The car does have a Select used warranty on it which should cover engine issues (although software updates are not in warranty) Can't help but feel a bit out of pocket here and the £50 software update 'fix' was just throwing money away for me to only come back and pay them more. -
Honda Jazz Auto (CVT) 55 Plate - Low Mileage Service Intervals 24 Aug 2012 (Forum)
My wifes Jazz only covers 1200 miles p.a. (100 miles a month) and all journeys are within 10 miles of home. We have had the car from new and It has been serviced every year. Last year it cost £200 for an Interim Service and M.O.T. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Will the real TDCi please stand up?? 14 May 2012 (Forum)
I've noticed a trend emerging on AT, whereby the "PS" sticker has been yanked from the bonnet striker panel, rendering it tricky to tell whether its a 115 or 130. And I've even seen some where a photo of the engine bay reveals a TD engine cover (it has a red "DI" sticker), though the car has been advertised as a TDCi. Does anyone know a definitive way to tell if a Mondy is a TDCI or not- and if so, can the power output be verified? I'm guessing that an insurer may have this on file? -
Peugeot 307 2.0 petrol - Ticking noise from RH dashboard / scuttle 1 Dec 2010 (Forum)
After a decent run the car sometimes makes a ticking noise that sounds as though it comes from the far right hand side of the dashboard. It can be heard quite plainly with the engine idling. Having pulled the panel off which covers the diagnostic point there doesn't seem to be anything there that could make the noise and it sounds as though it is coming from further forward. -
Mazda 6 - Cancelled Direct debit - wrong choice? 19 Apr 2010 (Forum)
Hi everyone, I am in a huge dispute with Mazda, my solicitor advised me 5 months back to immediately stop my payments to the finance department & at the time i thought great! my car is useless sitting on my drive so why should i pay for it. Only until a few days ago, he had messed everything up, tried to get in contact with him for over 2 weeks and then found out he got the sack! -
Extremely unroadworthy vehicle..... 10 Aug 2009 (Forum)
The other day I was in a queue of traffic behind an exceptionally unroadworthy vehicle. It was an elderly Bedford CF single-car transporter piled high with a precarious load of scrap metal. Both tyres on the twin nearside rear were flat and gradually comig apart as the driver struggled on with the engine revving in a low gear to get enough power to keep moving. -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 1999 1.8 Oil consumption question 29 Jan 2009 (Forum)
I have worked out that since the last oil change which was last November, the engine has consumed about 500ml (0.5 quart/litre) of oil whilst covering about 1000 miles. Is this rate of oil consumption normal and also presumably all car owner's have to top up, some more than others, if there is a full year between services and they have driven say 10-12k miles. -
Citroen C5 (2001 - 2008) - 2003 (03) 1.8 petrol tappety engine 30 Jun 2008 (Forum)
I drove home and checked the spark plugs - all nice & tight. Any suggestions? It sounds like it's coming from under the rocker cover but it's certainly the top part of the engine. I recorded the sound on my mobile and uploaded it for anyone who's interested - http://tinyurl.com/yu3n7j Many thanks, Steve -
Citroen Berlingo Multispace (1998 - 2010) - 1996, 1.9d, fuel pump/ immobiliser 22 Mar 2008 (Forum)
A ignition-switched supply was connected to one of two leads to the fuel-cut off solenoid - behind the cover on the lucas fuel pump. Several other wires in this region (not all) were cut at the same time. At the same time, a "miss" developed when under load. There is a four way connector that connects in front of the solenoid. -
Volkswagen Beetle (1998 - ) - Any owners / experience? 9 Sep 2007 (Forum)
Boot would be hard pushed to take a week's groceries! Is Beetle ownership all about the exterior and the "fun" and "cult" or is it actually a practical car? the one I saw had 30k miles but the bonnet was covered in stone chips - is this normal due to the shape? Anyone got real life economy figures for 1.6 compared to 1.9 diesel? why is the diesel 100bhp whereas the rest of VAG group is 105?
