  • BMW 5-Series E39 (1996 - 2003) - 5 Series - Which engine and spec 1 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I was thinking along the lines of a 523i SE, which seems to be a reasonable compromise of 30+mpg with 170bhp and most of the ones I've seen online have decent kit as standard. Lastly, is there anything significant to look out for on these cars? Thanks Jonathan
  • Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - Micra engine lifespan? 2 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Is it likely to cover much more ground? Cheers, Tom
  • Mercedes Benz E-Class W124 Estates (1985 - 1996) - Battery Maintenance 17 Sep 2007 (Forum)
The Bosch website claims water loss (it is water not a gel) is 400 times less than a conventional battery. The top is firmly fixed but looks as through the trough cover could unclip. Europarts claim it is now guaranteed for life! even if you swop cars and move it over. Can this battery really need nothing in the next 10 years. Any views or experience on the long life of these?
  • Removing rusty number plate screws 8 Feb 2007 (Forum)
The cheap number plates fitted to my car when new by the main dealer have been delaminating. Along with a stone chip on the front one and rusty screws holding them on, I decided to get some nice new plates maden up to improve the appearance.
  • What Sat Nav? Advice appreciated 7 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I want to be able to: 1, Type in postcode onto the screen and then be directed to my destination. 2, Transfer the unit from one car to another as we may share it in the office for journeys to customers we have not visited before (unless they are really cheap). 3, It needs to do mainland Europe pretty well (France, The Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland) - I managed to take the wrong route roung Brussels 3 times yesterday. 4, Do they charge from a 12V socket in the car or are they just rechargeable-at-home AA batteries?
  • HDi just lost all power in cloud smoke 1 Nov 2006 (Forum)
It only just made it home, I was hardly touching the throttle and was able to freewheel a lot thank God, but very little power. Any ideas? Feels expensive. Is the cambelt hidden behind a cover? Could it have suddenley given up? Was due for renewal at 100k. Anything else it could be? I am rather concerned to say the least. Bought the car 05/09/2006 from small dealer. Will I have comeback if it's major?
  • Exhaust gasket failure? 2 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Initially, I thought it could be because the exhaust is clean and polished on the inside (with it being new) and would quiet down with the carbon deposits which cover it during use. Similarly, with a small leak in the gasket, this too would be 'plugged' with carbon. However, this doesn't seem to be the case. I tried listening out for leaks under the car and the gasket joint (on the end of the manifold / beginning of down pipe) but couldn't pinpoint it to any particular area.
  • Ford Focus Cambelt Change - Fair Price 17 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Am I correct in thinking there are two seperate belts, (aux and cam belt)? The car will also need a new rocker cover gasket fitting. Anyway question is, what do you think a fair price (all inclusive parts & labour) would be at a franchised Ford dealer (Dagenham Motors) around the Byfleet area, and importantly, do I need any ancilliaries fitted with the cam belt, like tensioners etc...?
  • Mildew on Leather after using Autoglym 4 Dec 2005 (Forum)
The leather is now soft and supple and a pleasure to sit in. However, throughout the summer and autumn to my horror the seats having been covered in white mould, what I'm assuming is mildew. The mildew cleans off but soon reappears within weeks. My garage is dry but I can only keep the mildew at bay by running a dehumidifier from inside the car.
  • 00 Omega 2.2 - 3 Nov 2005 (Forum)
I do about 30 miles a day and have noticed two things - firstly the 'spanner' light comes on (picture of a car with a spanner in it) quite often. It will go out and perhaps not reapper for some time if the car is switched off and restarted. Any guesses as what will light the 'spanner' light? The manual gives no real clues and lumps the 'spanner' light with the 'engine' light as both indicating engine electronics problems - why two are needed is beyond me.
  • Peugeot 306 1.4i stalling... 22 Feb 2005 (Forum)
luckily, I am under warranty for most of the things, as it was extended and I argue the point until they agree to not charge me, but i have no idea what the problem might be and how hefty it might be should it not be covered somewhere...!
  • Pug 309D Mystery Coolant Leak.... 11 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Due to the near impossibility of actually being able to see exactly where the leak is comming from - even when the car is on wheel ramps & cam belt cover off - I\'m suspecting perhaps the water pump seal has finally gone and I\'m getting a very small leak somewhere round it. This seems to flow it\'s away around and drip off the lower part of the engine.
  • Snatching defeat from jaws of victory 2 Apr 2003 (Forum)
After looking at a fiat stilo jtd multiwagon yesterday and thinking what a brilliant car but for one thing: the interior trim quality was hateful I wondered whether others had found that cars were 99% right but one thing made them impossible to consider as an actual purchase? My Dad is looking for a diesel which has more boot space than his Xantia, but isn't any wider, has half decent ground clearance and has the air intake fairly high up ( no sales man had a clue when asked such a question!)
  • Peugeot 406 Coupe Water Leak!! 13 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Water appears to be coming out of a small drain hole in a unit (I think a fan housing)up behind the glovebox During the 15 days I've owned the car it has spent five days in with the Peugeot Dealer trying to sort the fault. When it came out they had replaced the door seal. I drove the car for about an hourand the same problem existed. I have tried (unsuccessfully) to fix the problem myself.
  • Audi S4 Avant - APCOA Airport Parking Southampton car damaged 9 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Hi All I parked my pride and joy in the covered section of the short term car park at Southampton Airport. On my return to my horror someone had driven into the drivers side damaging both rear and drivers door down to bare metal. The height indicated a 4 x 4 and the colour was white!
  • Lincoln - Town Car update 5 Jan 2013 (Forum)
When I went out of town one day, I set the cruise control at 55, stuck a Mantovani CD in the player and settled back for a bump-free ride.  (Now I'm very much a rock 'n roll guy, but in this car only the most relaxing elevator music seems appropriate...Sinatra, Peggy Lee, Henry Mancini, Sixties bossa nova.  Frank Chacksfield?)  Very nice.  Since buying this car I've added an OEM set of floormats in a matching, tasteful shade of taupe, and a matching dash cover.
  • Ford Focus - Insurance claim - named driver 4 Mar 2011 (Forum)
She has her own car which is fully comp. She phoned up her insurance company and asked if she can claim as she is fully comp she would be covered 3rd party to repair the other persons car. They asked if she was on my insurance and as she is a named driver they said she had to claim via my insurance.
  • Suzuki Swift (2005 - ) - Uneven wear on rear tyres 25 Sep 2009 (Forum)
A similar thing happened to me with the C5 that I once had but, luckily, I found out about it whilst the car was covered by the warranty.
