• Mitsubishi servicing requirements 13 Aug 2006 (Forum)
  Is it OK that this dealer has serviced it and not a Mitsubishi dealer? One of my friends has got me thinking, and now I am a little concerned. The car is just a runaround and not going to do very many miles, but I bought it on the basis that it had nearly 2 years manufacturers warranty remaining. If there is going to be any problems with the warranty, do I have any comeback with the dealer?

  Monday's Times reports a 'survey' (apparently from Warranty Direct) showing that the reliability of French cars is second only to Japanese, followed by S.Korea, US, Swedish, German, Italian and guess-who.  They did admit that Nissan, Honda and Mini were not classed as British.

  Obviously, we are keen for this not to happen to ours and would like some advice on how best to approach the garage. The salesman seemed genuine and reassured us that the car is covered by a 3 month/3000 mile warranty but are they likely to refused to investigate/rectify a fault with the timing chain?   Am i correct in thinking that you get the VW warranty whether you buy from a dealer or not ? Has anyone bought a new VW off the 'net and had any problems with obtaining a manufacturers warranty ? Or can you just turn up at a dealer and register the car with them and get the warranty then and there ?

  Between the Christmas and New Year break I contacted the salesman, and reported the problem. After a few calls back and forth one of his colleages called us stating that as I had their warranty, 3 yr extended with their company and run by Car Care Plan, I can should take the car to a local Fiat dealer and have the radio sorted that way. At this point the radio behaved itself for several weeks but I contacted my local dealer explained the problem and asked if they could do the warranty work.

  It has no ABS, only one airbag, suspension is now worn at 150K... it's had its time and owes us nothing. Intend to Ebay the old car and have funds to hand for replacement. Been looking for a few weeks now and what to get is driving us mad. Thinking of a 2005-on Focus/Astra or a C4.... got to be diesel.

  The original owner who part exchanged the car with us signed a declaration stating that the car wasn't an import but we have since found out from the original main dealer (DEALER 'B') who supplied the car that it was an import.....so you do not have the balance of the 3yr warranty" I've complained to the General Manager at the dealership who has agreed to honour the remainder of my warranty but I am now stuck with an imported car when I was told at the time that it was a UK car.

• What Irritates Me About Dealers 3 Dec 2005 (Forum)
  I always drive a quality car under 3 years old, which I usually buy nearly new either privately or from one of the car brokers now quite common. I dont tend to have much trouble with my cars, but on numerous occasions when I have phoned my local dealer to either ask their advice or a technical question they start by asking me "did you buy it from us".

  Ive heard there is a separate warranty or cover on paintwork but im finding it difficult to get a confirmed timescale for that, does anyone else know if there is such a thing? Or have they experienced this with their own Merc? I dont see why i should fork out a couple thousand for the respray of my car just because the paint used by the manufacturer clearly isnt up to the standard i would expect from a premium car brand, even more so the fact had i a car the same age in any other colour this wouldnt have happend.

  I recently bought a 03 plate Golf TDI Match from the local car auction . Ex lease car 70,000 miles great condition , full service etc. After a few days use we noticed the clutch was dragging making gear selection a little stiff and reverse was a definate crunch.

  Asked me to contact mercedes benz Southwest . My question is: I bought used and approved car from main dealer and am I right to expect that this problem should be sorted by Mercedes dealership? If Mercedes Southewest refused to co-operate do I have a chance if I used section 75 and contacted my bank as I used my credit card to secure the car?

  After viewing numerous tatty Leaf’s, and several overpriced Kia Niro’s most with zero history (so no battery warranty) and poor accident repairs, we’ve bought a 22 plate 18,000 mile VW ID3 58kwh Pro Performance Max instead - bring back L/LX/GL etc. Car is mint, approved used and as part of VW’s used car event it comes with two years VW warranty, breakdown cover, a £250 finance contribution and free servicing.

  We purchased a second hand motorhome at considerable cost over 2 years ago.The vehicle is only 4 years old. Dealer who sold us the car refuses to take the car back for resale as the floor has rotted from underneath. He told us that this was a known manufacturing defect,but claimed that the floor did not have a problem when they sold it to us, so it is not his problem.

  My wife has a 2007 Honda Jazz (recently inherited from my Grandad) that will run out of manufacturers warranty in March 2010. We cannot tell exactly how long we'll keep the car and I usually do my own servicing (on a 15 year old discovery). We've never had such a new car before and I have a couple of questions that some of you might be able to help with. 1.

  Hello all, I bought a automatic X-reg Vauxhall Astra from an independent dealer back in March which included a 3 month warranty from the garage. Unfortunately today the head gasket has gone, I know nothing about cars so don't know if this is something that I've done or could've prevented but it's too late now anyway! My question is, I've only driven approx 1000 miles in it since I've had it, I literally use it to drive to the station and back everyday so has very little use.

  We have done what the warranty company require in terms of preventative maintenance, and no warning lights or other indications were given before the incident. As soon as any "odd noises" were heard we took the car to the garage.

  If my experience can help make people aware and so avoid this problem then my post has been worth it. PS : Japanese car-makers are moving over to using timing-chains instead. Aiming for 70% of new cars by the end of 2005! Say no more!

  I'm writing to Toyota in the vague hope they'll extend the warranty after all the hassle this car has caused, because if they don't I'm selling it before the warranty runs out and it becomes a potential liability One positive note - the dealership have been helpful and friendly - must be used to dealing with lemons (the cars, not me!)
