Ford Tourneo Connect - Ford Tourneo Connect 28 Jun 2014 (Forum)
So how come these van based cars aren't built to tow, when their appeal is to a section of the public that want to tow? Surely the powertrain is used for much higher weights on other Ford products. Is the rear end of a TC made of plasticine? Oh and what happened to the automatic version which got mentioned in the pre-launch publicity but doesn't appear in the UK brochure? -
Help! Kerb weight VW Passat 26 May 2005 (Forum)
I purchased a Passat Estate 1.9tdi(130) Sport 4motion new a year ago. When I The reason I purchased it was because I needed a car with a heavy Kerb weight for towing without opting for a SUV. In the brochure it stated that the kerb weight was 1824kgs based on the vehicle weight, 90% tank of fuel and the driver (75kgs). This suited my needs and gave me the option to tow heavier loads based on the 85% towing rule so I purchased the vehicle. -
flashing beacons on recovery trucks 13 Dec 2015 (Forum)
Hi, Does any one know the law with regard to turning on flashing beacons when "spectacle lifting" a car when using a recovery truck?. Is it when just loading or unloading or when the disabled vehicle is hooked up and on tow? , I have seen the AA/rac towing vehicles with both beacons on and off , Just wonder is it down to the driver/operator or is there a firm law? -
Agricultural implement with bald tyres 22 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I recently followed for several miles an ancient two-wheeled agricultural implement that was being towed at 60 to 70 mph by a 4x4 thingy. The LH tyre of the implement was completely devoid of tread and it had a 25mm wide strip all the way round that was showing the canvas. Don't agricultural implements that are towed on the road have to abide by the same rules as other vehicles? -

I have the code for my car just need the sequence. Thanks in advance constcoop -
Rearward facing searchlights on towtruck 11 Nov 2004 (Forum)
I had the misfortune the other night to catch up (on a twisty single-carriageway road) with a towtruck that was giving a suspended tow to a car that had no lights. The towtruck had lights, however ~ two rearward-facing high-wattage searchlights near the top, aimed slightly downwards, that were shining over the top of said towed car! -
Night-time parking £260 per hour 21 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Fail to notice the signs which say 'residents parking only at any time' - it's dark, they're badly lit, and anyway, parking restrictions at 9pm at night? By 10.25, the car had been towed away. £200 for tow charges (to half a mile away), £60 for parking fine. Ouch. The car was unarguably illegally parked. But what prompt response! The tow charges strike me as wholly disproportionate, a little like bank overdraft letter charges. -
New Vectra towing electrics 30 Jun 2003 (Forum)
In addition there are clicking sounds from a large fuse block at the back, nearside of the car when the 12N plug is inserted into the car socket. The towing electrics that were fitted were not Vauxhalls own make but an ordinary 12N kit. Obviously my neighbour is going to sort it out with the towbar fitter but it would be interesting to know what's going on. -
Honda Accord UK (2003 - 2008) - 05 2.2 Clutch Problems 16 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Now in February 2010 and 24,000 miles later (total of 36,000 miles on the clock) I take up the story of the present day problem. The clutch has failed again !!! Of the subsequent 24,000 miles - at the extreme - we have towed 4,000 miles ? and again this is very generous. 80% plus of our towing has been either motorways or ?A? roads with minimal town work or traffic jams etc. We have had no warning of any problem and in fact have not towed since October 2009 ? -
2013 Dacia Duster Laureate 1.5 4WD - Coasting 7 Mar 2018 (Forum)
Hi all, The manual states that my Duster mustn't be towed with any wheels in contact with the road. But, what about coasting? A 4x4 being towed whilst all wheels are in road contact is surely the same as coasting, the only difference is, when coasting, up to lights, etc, the engine will be running. -

To replace our huge 4x4 i have been offered a 1990 230 estate with full history from new by a relative. Only problem is its done 156k miles. They want 3500 for it. It will need to be able to tow a small trailer with a formula ford on it, about 600kg. It has never towed before and looks really good. Opinions welcome -
Hyundai Santa Fe - Nose Weight 2 Sep 2013 (Forum)
I've recently got a tow bar mounted bike carrier and have had to start looking at Nose Weight (the weight that can go on the tow bar). I have an auto Santa Fe with self levelling suspension. In the UK the nose weight limit is 80Kg (but can be more in other countries apparently). -

Why won't main dealers retro-fit tow bars? 10 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I asked my local VW dealer to quote me to fit a tow bar and electrics to my Golf. Mr service desk man, he say no! They are just not interested in that sort of work, despite the fact that the item is included in their accessories list. However, he did have the heart to recommend a local outfit that they used to use. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - Fitting single electrics tow bar 24 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I have just fitted a tow bar to my Peugeot 306 and now need to fit the electrics. 1) Do I simply drill a hole in the underside of the car and fit a gromet and drag the wire through or is there some other better route/ way / position for this that a pro would use ? -
Pushing automatics. 25 Sep 2005 (Forum)
IRC 1. Modern cars with auto gearboxes should only be towed / recovered with the driven wheels suspended else the gearbox is damaged. 2. I also believed that autos could be moved by being pushed or conventionally slowly towed very short distances. Can someone advise me if the above is correct and if so what speed / distance applies to 2.
