Audi A3 8P 1.6 (BGU) - Asda 5w/30 OK For Frequent Oil Changes 21 Mar 2013 (Forum)
I note that Asda has a synthetic 5w/30 oil for just £20. looking to do 6 monthly oil changes on my wife's 2004 73k A3 1.6, to try and keep it going for as long as possible. Would it be false ecconomy or would I be better off going for Castrol Edge yearly? -
Renault Megane (1996 - 1998) - 96 1.6 Oil change and door lock 30 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I have a megane that specifies (recommends) 10w40 oil but I have 5w30 oil. Would it be OK to use 5w30 for an oil change? Its only a car I intend to keep for a few months. I cannot open the rear doors on the car. Initially I couldn't open the doors from the inside but it would open from the outside so I thought it was the child saftey lock. -
Audi A3 Sportback 1.9tdi PD engine BKC - Which oil for diesel engine? 16 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Recently bought car which was on variable servicing using longlife oil. I wish to change this to annual servicing and the handbook state that I should use an oil meeting specifications VW 505.01 or VW507.00. My question is should I change to the 505.01 05/40w oil that is specific for PD engines or keep using the longlife 507.00 05/30w oil but change it annually? -
Renault Megane (1996 - 1998) - Oil changes-- hot or cold, sir? 30 Aug 2007 (Forum)
For the umpteenth time in the last fifty-odd years, I'm about to change the engine oil and have always followed the practice of doing so on a hot engine since the oil is supposed to drain more freely when hot. But hang on a moment -- since the whole point of modern multigrade oils is that viscosity *increases* with temperature, would it not be better to drain it when it's cold? -
Oil for Renault 1.9dCi engine 12 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Now that the engine has bedded in I intend to change the oil and filter at 6000 mile intervals. Is a B3 spec oil OK for this engine if changed at 6000 or should I go back to a B4 synthetic. Is this just a ploy by the dealer to stock just the one oil or are they really saving me money ? -
Volkswagen Polo IV (2002-2005) - Contamination risk to expensive oil. 2 Mar 2009 (Forum)
I have a VW Polo with a 1.4 tdi pd engine, since the warranty ran out I have changed the oil myself once a year . For the past four years I have bought a 5litre container of tdi pd (505.1) oil that is 4x5 = 20 litres. The oil change takes 4 litres so 4 yearly changes X 4 litres = 16 litres . -

advice needed. Oil change on vw golf. 17 Feb 2004 (Forum)
My 1998 golf is due an oil change. Do I take it to the VW dealership where it will cost me about £80 or do I take it to a chain like Kwit Fit or similar where it costs less. Which in your past experience is better? Why the difference in prices? -
BMW autobox oil change 4 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Can anybody advise me on how to change the automatic gearbox oil on my 1993 5 speed BMW 320i which does not have a dipstick. How do I know when the box is full? Haynes manual says leave it to a BMW garage, but that goes against my principles. -
Mitsubishi Colt CZ2 1.3 2009 - Gearbox oil change 19 Dec 2013 (Forum)
My car suffers from the notchy gear change problem that seems common with Colts. Mitsubishi recommend 75/90 semi-synthetic oil for the box. However I note from an old post you recommend switching to something like Redline MTL or GM Synthetic to improve this. -
Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 1998 - Changing the gearbox oil 24 Jan 2008 (Forum)
My 1998 micra has done 100K and is probably due for a change of gearbox oil. The Haynes manual tells you how to check and top-up the oil (through the speedometer cable hole!) but not how to drain and replace it. There seem to be two plugs on the front of the gearbox. -
Skoda Octavia - Oil Change Intervals Octavia 1.9 TDI 1 Mar 2014 (Forum)
The car doesn't have a full service history but I figure so long as I check that it hasn't covered too many miles between oil changes, I should be pretty safe. So my question is, what sort of mileage between oil changes would the car need to have covered to make me think I should be looking elsewhere? Any other suggestions of things to look out for on a used Octavia? -
Engine Oil Brand 5 Jun 2007 (Forum)
Time to change the oil in my '99 Citroen Saxo 1.1i on 75,000 miles. I usually use Magnatec but its expensive, especially now they started doing it in 4l cans for the same price as the old 4.5l cans... So I was wondering if people could tell me: Am I better off getting a "good" (branded) oil or getting a cheaper oil that is a better spec (fully synthetic???) -
Petrol oil in diesel engine !!! 9 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Hi, Quick question. I have stupidly put the wrong oil in my Renault Trafic 2.1 Diesel engine. It's a campervan so does some hard mileage. The oil I have put in is 15w40 Castrol High Mileage oil which is intended for petrol engines. a) will I have done any damage to the diesel engine, (done over 1000 miles with wrong oil). b) will it be okay to leave until next change or should I change it asap, (inc. filter ???). -

Hyundai i10 - Changing Gearbox Oil 4 Oct 2010 (Forum)
My handbook states that the gearbox is "filled for life", but after reading several of HJ's comments re. gearbox failures, I would like to know if it is possible to change the gearbox oil, to get rid of any running in swarf etc. Would it be a dealer only sort of job, or could a reasonably competent DIY-er do it? -
Oil Spec change question, confused 23 May 2007 (Forum)
I can get an oil and filter change on my Diesel corolla 2003 for £25 from National..Much cheaper than Toyota. However they specify the oil to be used as Visco 7000 0w-40 I enquired at my Dealership last service, and they said they used Shell Helix 10w-40 The handbook says ''Oil grade ACEA,b1,API CF-4 or CF'' Visco is CF The hand book also says ''SAE 5W-30 is the best choice for fuel economy and good starting in cold weather,if you use SAE 10W-30 or higher at very low temperatures the engine may be difficult to start'' Basically, will I be ok with this oil from National as an interim, until my next main dealer service in November??
