  • Big engined American cars 26 Feb 2003 (Forum)
Well 'only,' because this equates to what, 40-odd per litre? Its not that torquey either, relatively. Are big American cars built with engines that should really develop more power because the designs are old or because they are tuned such that they last a long time? Something Ive wondered about, thats all.
  • Back to the future in adland 25 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Ever seen any of those old car ads of the Fifties, where the proportions of upright boxes such as the Ford Popular and Humber Super Snipe were subtly (sometimes not so subtly) tweaked to make the cars appear longer and lower?
  • Advice on buying a nearly new car 4 Feb 2002 (Forum)

  • Car Alarm/Astra 27 Nov 2001 (Forum)
Hello all, I have just read in the pper, 12 yr old vauxhall astra are 4x more likely to be stolen in the UK than ny other car, obviously this is because they are timeless classics! Seriousy though, being the owner of one such vehicle, i think i might buy an alarm, i already have a steering lock, but can anybody recommend a decent alarm for as little cash as possible, and that i can easily fit myself, bearing in mind i am a poor student, and wan to fit it asap- also where can i buy it from?
  • Rover 25 29 May 2001 (Forum)
I have just received a Rover 25 1.4 as a company car. It is very very slow compared to my old Rover 200 1.4. Apparently I have been told that the engine in the Rover 25 has around 20hp less. Both engines look the same externally. Does anyone know what the difference is?
  • BMW X1 - Car Adverts pictures background 9 Jul 2022 (Forum)
Hi I was looking at used BMW X1 and found few cars at different dealers miles apart having advert pics taken with same background and style. Just getting suspicious if these are any auction site pics dealers bough the cars from and whether the car will have any damage history.

  • Perceived reliability of cars. 21 Oct 2016 (Forum)
I really cannot get my head around some peoples way of thinking when it comes to reliability of cars. Had a chat with someone who said French cars are all junk. His evidence of this was a friend of his has bought an old (sounds like completely neglected) Clio and has had to buy a new set of tyres, have a clutch fitted and a new timing belt.
  • Ford Focus - buying used car previously sold at auction 3 Oct 2016 (Forum)
Also why would Lex sell a one year old car at auction instead of returning it Ford? Does this mean that car was a problem and that Lex did not want to burden Ford with it - accident damage etc. ?????????
  • Ford C-MAX - Car Ownership 14 May 2015 (Forum)
You won't believe this ....   Motor dealer 'A' gives trade car to Ms X and sends v5 off to change name.  Ms X does not want car.  Car is off road at her home - 50 miles from 'A's garage. She wants to physically return it but although she has insurance AFAIK the old owners road tax (expires 31/8) is not valid if it is now in her ownership.

  • Car Supermarket/Part Ex 30 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Hi everybody Any advice on what is the best car supermarket in the South East in terms of screen prices and part exchange deals. I prefer to buy a car at an auction but have had no luck selling my car privately (it's an immaculate, low mileage, 2 year old Focus).
  • Car Damaged During Servicing 13 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Just had a call from the VW dealership I left my car with for a servicing this morning to say that the service is fine, but they pranged the wing and bumper. They have offered courtesy car over weekend, but I am off on holiday on Monday and a neighbour was going to drive my car back to my house for me.

  • Mazda 3 - Insurance NCB puzzle. 26 Feb 2020 (Forum)
She changed her car in January and I wonder if the new insurance company ran a policy check and it still comes up on some insurance database as the old car? Or I noticed that the new company has quoted the reg in the format AA NNAAA rather than the correct AANN AAA.
  • Buying Hawkeye's new car 3 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Is this normal nowadays? I suggested he claim his money back forthwith and deal with a more old-fashioned establishment. The upshot was that he collected his new car from our local dealer yesterday too. New tin and big grins all round. Sorry for the long post; any comments anyone? • Looking for cheap reliable Japanese car for my gf 14 Jan 2018 (Forum)
As the title suggests, after the complete disaster of her ford fiesta 1.4 tdci which we bought at 8 year old 70k miles, owned for 2 years, poured money into it and then had to sell for parts on eBay.  This time can't afford to have an unreliable car ( although there's never any guarantees) budget will be around £1.5 - 2.5k so will have to be an older car so looking for something that will stand the test of time.
