I can't remember the brand name, but it's manufactured by Tetrosyl and meets the spec for a number of makes including BMW, Vauxhall etc. Anyone know if this is woth buying? Seems cheap. -
How to drive an X5 slowly? 15 May 2003 (Forum)
Ever seen a BMW X5 driven slowly on a motorway? I haven’t. Is there perhaps a paragraph in the owner’s manual which reads: Congratulations! You are now the proud owner of a powerful and expensive ‘off-road’ vehicle, which has been designed to be driven rapidly. -
what to buy? 22 Apr 2003 (Forum)
I'm confused and need direction. What to buy? Saab 9-3 convertible; Audi convertible; Audi 1.8T; Lexus IS 200; BMW in price range? I drive 15,000 mls/yr on A roads - few overtaking opportunities (need a car thats quick off the mark). Any suggestions? -
Wheel Balancing 9 Mar 2003 (Forum)
I'm just about to get a set of used BMW alloys (I've read the previous threads about checking condition etc.). I was wondering whether I should get them re-balanced before putting them on my car, or is this unneccessary if weights are already present? -
Snobbish dealers 26 Feb 2003 (Forum)
As promised from ND's Yaris strand, here's an opportunity for everyone to sound off about the worst, most snobbish treatment they've had from a dealer. Sentiment seems to suggest some of the prestige guys are the worst, with BMW palace's getting a fair bit of stick. Careful with the names, though...some people are pretty fierce at 'defending' their reputation -
Running a BMW.. 29 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Am I neive to expect similar performance from a more expensive, apparently better engineered car like a BMW? I don't expect general Mondeo running costs but surely it should prove to be at least as reliable? I've figured I'm in for servicing costs of about £300 every 10k miles, an insurance bill of about £1000 a year, and £400 a set for tyres. -
Volvo V40 - Alternatives to a Volvo V40 18 Nov 2017 (Forum)
He fancies a V40 but these are very rare and even early examples of the current model are over budget. Failing that he quite likes the BMW 3 series but he has heeded my warnings about the potential running costs of a BMW in that price bracket. Also petrol models are again rare, although more common than the V40 if you go back further in age. -
BMW 528 - Does 3rd party insurance have the legal right - 12 Sep 2013 (Forum)
I have not made a claim through my insurance, instead I made a claim direct to the 3rd parties insurers. I had an estimate to repair (with a new BMW bumper) from a local body shop, the estimate is £1200 however, the car is 14 years old and with high miles. The car is a modified car, with LPG conversion, uprated brakes, suspension, etc.. -
BMW 320i - AA Warranty - bad experience 24 May 2013 (Forum)
Hi all, This is my first post - I've not seen many posts relating to warranties so thought I'd share a very recent experience that has been incredibly bad and might serve as a warning to others considering an AA Warranty. I recently purchased a BMW 320 from Cargiant and was heavily advised to get a guarantee from AA Warranty on the car. As it's around 5 years old I thought this might be a prudent purchase, after all, nobody wants to be hit with large repair bills... -
BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 2003 2.0d Power Loss - Not usual suspect 31 Jan 2010 (Forum)
All 4 injectors & fuel pump relay replaced at 125 k miles - main fuel pump checked and passed as ok - main BMW dealer did the work (4 new injectors & relay switch). 4. Air Mass meter & air filter replaced at 125 k miles - independant garage did the work. Car has been put on computers at main dealers and 2 independent garages with no faults showing up - however all agree that car is not boosting properly. last garage checked boost pressure and said all was ok (no turbo leaks etc evident). -

Executive diesel automatic saloon 9 Jun 2005 (Forum)
So I've looked long at hard at the different mid-sized diesel autos and have found the following: Volvo V60 D5 SE - Nice car, mpg sapping gearbox BMW 320d auto - Very nice interior, drives well, 40mpg bit low for the size of the car BMW 525d auto - Bit 'old man' in the styling. Pricey. Audi A4 1.9tdi auto - Too new to fit into my £12k budget Audi A6 1.9tdi auto - Seriously considering but what is the gearbox? -
Help with selling a car 7 Aug 2023 (Forum)
Long story but my wife does not need the stress at the moment so wondered if someone does that sort of thing. We are in Cheshire. The car is a 2012 BMW X1 20d 2.0 xdrive ,78k miles. Thanks everyone -
Brit volt in administration 19 Jan 2023 (Forum)
So what does this say about the UK s future for EV manufacturing. So disappointing to learn BMW plan to cease production of the electric Mini in the UK and transfer manufacturing to China. But surely Nissan , Moke and hopefully Toyota will need this essential component ? -
New E10 Petrol. Reality Or Nonsense? 15 Sep 2018 (Forum)
Surely the Government need to get real. Encouraging people to switch to petrol cars and then introduce fuel that can potentially ruin engines. I... -
Honest John's Motoring Agony Column 26-05-2018 Part 1 7 Jun 2018 (Forum)
Re '3-Serious'. Without being in the remotest bit pedantic, my daughter has just bought the exact same BMW model/version. The tyre sizes actually differ front to rear hence this this logic is unable to be applied. Drat! -

Cars which look like animals 17 Oct 2011 (Forum)
For some time the front of a Ciroen DS3, with the vertical day running lights reminds me of a beaver. The new BMW 1 series - a hippo. The Fiat Multipla in its first guise of the present car - a dolphin. Chrysler Crossfire Coupe - looks like a dog on the toilet. Any one else got some more? -
How many in a row? 2 Sep 2011 (Forum)
I just went for a little cycle around my neighbourhood, and on the home stretch, I saw 5 BMWs in a row. A 335 (actually a lovely example in a colour I've not seen before), then an 11 plate 740, an early 90s 3 series, a 118d and 520d. Anyone seen more of the same kind of car in a row than that...?! -
Volvo S80 (2006 - ) - HJ Road Test 23 Mar 2009 (Forum)
As an S80 driver I was pleased to read his final comment: 'But a very pleasing consideration is what it says about you. Not a BMW driver. Not an Audi driver. Not a Mercedes driver. Not a Jaguar driver. Probably someone to be trusted, then.' So, what other brands could you say that about??
