  • fair wear and tear 2002 fiesta diesel 29 Mar 2006 (Forum)
My Fiesta 2002 Diesel just failed its MOT for split lower arm bushes, after 44,000 miles and cost me £250 parts and labour.. Does anyone think this is fair wear and tear on a 4 year old car? As I do not. I am thinking of writing to Ford to complain but wanted a second opinion first.
  • Saab Converible roof problem 9 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Anyone else got a problem with their convertible roof? Mine is only 18 months old 12,000 miles but the roof is badly marked from the inside with the pile being rubbed off. So far Saab is denying responsibility but to me its clearly a design/build fault. I had no such problems on my previous car.
  • Dent removal - Woking area 2 Dec 2005 (Forum)
Hi, My wifes 2 month old Jazz has had someone conveniently open their door onto her car and leave a dent, plus some scratches, all in area of an 1-1.5 inches. Looking around for a cheap way of fixing this and I found Chipsaway.
  • Ford Warranty 10 Aug 2004 (Forum)
If I buy a 12-18 month old (UK Spec)Ford Mondeo will it definitely come with the balance of the original 3 year warranty. I gather the original warranty is one year plus 2 years free optional. Am I right to assume the optional 2 years is only valid if the car is serviced by Ford.
  • Air filters 28 Jul 2003 (Forum)
I looked at the air filter in my very old car and it seems quite dirty from the top but clean from the side (i.e. white). I think it is a paper one and wondering how do I know when it needs changing. Are there any pages showing what condition they should be in.
  • Discolouration of plastic parts?? 15 Jun 2003 (Forum)
I have a number of black plastic trim parts on a ten year old car. The insides of these parts are like new, the outsides ( age and exposure to the elements ) have developed a white bloom which will not wash off. Can anyone suggest a process or product ( other than the "Back To Black" type ) that will stop the bloom and hopefully, restore the black plastic surface ?
  • Trafficmaster - or something else? 2 May 2003 (Forum)
My only experience of the system to date was in a hire car, caught in a rolling fuel blockade. That thoroughly confused it!
  • Passat Driver's Mirror 17 Jan 2003 (Forum)
OK I've bought the glass but how do I fit it? The driver's side door mirror suffered at the hands of an oncoming car and needs to be replaced. I have the replacement glass but do I just pull the old one off and click the new one in place? It's a 2 litre N reg and the mirrors have remote (but not electric) adjustment.
  • Mystery Vauxhall Tool? 23 Sep 2002 (Forum)
Hello, Can anyone shed any light on the uses if this tool: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/gary.vance/car/tool.jpg (the image is 45k) It's located inside the petrol filler flap of my 1999 Vectra (Diesel), and is mounted in it's own little clip. There is also an almost identical tool in the same position of my parents 6 month old Corsa (Petrol).
  • Diesel injector pump info. 21 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Has anyone found worthwhile info on the web to assist in stripping down diesel injector pumps? I would normally fit an exchange unit if needed on a modern car but have a spare pump (u/s due to diesel leaks) for the old Land Rover and would like to have a fiddle. The search engines don't seem to turn up much. David
  • Tyre pressure sensors 31 Jan 2002 (Forum)
Out of idle curiosity, does anyone know how this works? Presumably there is a sensor in each wheel, but how does it communicate with the rest of the car? And will it still work at six years old? (I've owned ageing Renaults, so I think I know the answer to the last question.)
  • Sandtoft Airfield 14 Jan 2002 (Forum)
At the old Sandtoft Airfield on the south side of the M180 between Scunthorpe and Doncaster, there are thousands of vehicles - cars, vans, campers, all various makes and I am always curious when I pass this location.
  • Volvo Sunroofs 22 Nov 2001 (Forum)
I have had a problem with excessive noise coming from a Volvo Coupe sunroof which Volvo have trace (through their technical department) to a glass fault. Since the car is older than 3 years old (but not over 60,000 miles) they have only agreed to stump a fraction of the £500 repair fee. Has anyone had any experience with this problem or with dealing with Volvo UK Thanks Steve
  • EV range and rejection 4 Aug 2023 (Forum)
Basically a buyer has been perfectly happy with his EV and traded it after 3 years for the same car but latest model.  It promised a range of some 285plus miles which he was happy with getting some 250 miles with the old model.  The reality with the new one he says is "barely 200 in cold weather" due he thinks to the new car having a heat pump.
  • Toyota yaris 2011 - suggestions on a bigger car 5 Jan 2023 (Forum)
I am looking to get a bigger car,I have a 9 mo th old baby, two dogs and my Toyota Yaris a 2011 plate is doing very well for its age, under miles at 38,000,no issues and in great condition its just quite small.Am looking to get something bigger, something reliable, safe, an automatic would be a dream,I do not do many miles so a petrol would be fine.I will be trading my Yaris in and getting a loan for the rest but was hoping for something under £12,000 if possible.By suggestions?
  • Ford Fiesta - Dead battery - jump start or buy new battery? 13 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Or have to drive the car for more than an hour to recharge the battery.  I also assume that the old battery may not even hold the charge after recharging?   What would you do?
  • Ford Focus - longevity of current small petrol engines 22 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Does anyone know how the new generation of small petrol engines will last? will they still be going without trouble at 150,000 miles plus. I am thinking of cars such as the Focus/Fiesta with the 1.0 litre turbo or a Fiat 500 with less than 1000cc. Surely they must be stressed more than the old conventional type of petrol engine. I have been keeping my cars for over 100,000 miles and was thinking that my next car could be a small eco boost type if they last that long.
  • Subaru Forester - Subaru Used Car Values 14 Dec 2016 (Forum)
Hi I am looking to buy a used (three year old approx) Subaru Forester XE Petrol Automatic in the next two months for my wife and I am already looking around.  I have found one in the Subaru Helensburgh (I live in Scotland) dealership advertised at £17,995.
  • Used Car Warranty 2 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Hi, I will shortly be in the market for buying a two or three year old Mazda 2 for my daughter. Having checked out some of the local garages, including a couple of main dealers, they all seem to offer a 3 year RAC warranty with the car. This is all well and good.
  • Anyone used Autotrader Quick Sale? 1 Aug 2012 (Forum)
I ask the question because Suresell don't allow a reserve on a car over eight years old and their charges seem disproportionately high on a £2k car. I've had wife's one owner car advertised at a very reasonable price for three weeks with no response. Naturally I assume that the price is too high but TBH I could not go out and get a similar 2/H vehicle for the money so we might as well keep it as a spare for me to use.
