  • Icy windscreen: cold fan heater? 9 Dec 2003 (Forum)
My car heater is of no use until the engine has fully warmed up (a couple of miles or so). Nissan Micra K11. Yet I sometimes read postings about clearing ice from car windscreens in the morning which advise drivers to first of all start the engine and turn the screen fan heater on. I was always under the impression that a cold fan heater would be of no use in clearing ice.
  • turbodiesels and fuel economy 20 May 2003 (Forum)
Hello, Does anybody have real life experience of the average difference in mpg and performance between Peugeot HDI turbo diesels and VW/Audi PDI turbo diesels. How do Japanese turbo diesels compare in terms of fuel economy and reliability(toyota/ Nissan). How reliable is the turbo? What is the average engine life expectancy of the engine ? How good/bad are ford turbo diesels, scaning this web site seems to indicate poor mpg from fords? If you change the oil regularly, say , every 5000 miles on a modern turbo diesels, what engine life can you expect.
  • Best-ever car TV ad? 13 Oct 2002 (Forum)
So that got me thinking - what's the best-ever car ad you've seen on the telly? Probably for me, it's got to have been the Nissan Almera ads from a few years back, aping The Sweeney and The Professionals. Spot-on impersonations and very entertaining. Going back even further to the late 80s, the Montego ad where the car was put through it's paces in a works car park (handbrake turns etc - was the wheelman the renowned stunt driver Russ Swift?)

  • Two small cars in 24 hours 18 Oct 2007 (Forum)
I also had to go to Glasgow for a funeral, so I got a courtesy car from the dealer (a Micra- combined nissan subaru dealer) and a Pug 207 for Avis. In both cars I did about 35 miles of motorway driving. Impressions.... Externally - couldn't care less! Internally - the 207 was much smarter, but the dials were harder to read and looked as though they had been shunted up the casing by 1cm.
  • Very cheap car suggestions 8 Feb 2003 (Forum)
I've also suggested Rover 216/416 (Honda engine), VW Jetta, perhaps also a Nissan Sunny. I've recommended they avoid dealers and go for private sales - neither of them have any auction experience. It would be nice to find something that will last longer than a year. Any other suggestions from the assembled?

  • Which Automatic gearbox is the most reliable? 12 Aug 2021 (Forum)
I don't need anything fancy and tend to drive locally mostly. I have been looking at the following cars. Ford fiesta, Focus, C Max or B Max, Honda Jazz, Nissan Note, Mazda 3, VW Polo or Golf, Hyundai i30 or Volvo V40. Can anyone shed any light on which of these might have a reliable automatic gearbox. I will go for a car with full service history and has been well looked after.
  • Honest John’s Motoring Agony Column 09-12-2017 Part 2 11 Dec 2017 (Forum)
If the dealer hasn't given you a receipt then the car isn't yours probably isn't event yours yet as registration doesn't prove ownership. If you paid cash and the dealer fails, this could be a problem. Remember the Nissan (Datsun) franchise owner in the UK walked away from customers of failed dealers in the '80s. It all sounds like a scam to me!
  • reliable diesel hatchback - any recommendations? 24 Jul 2017 (Forum)
Hoping someone can help.  I currently have a 1.2 petrol Nissan micra but am spending a fortune on fuel (I do approx. 25000miles a year, mostly town driving and getting 44mpg - about £70 a week in petrol). So I'm looking into buying a diesel hatchback - I want reliability as well as fuel economy.
  • Renault Symbol 1.6 L - Renault Symbol 1.6 not cranking when hot 15 Jul 2017 (Forum)

  • Advice re buying a secondhand crossover 1 Jun 2017 (Forum)
We're looking to purchase a 2 or 3 year old low mileage crossover vehicle. We'd love a Nissan Qashqai but they are out of our sub £9500 budget. We tend to keep our cars as long as possible and drive them into the ground, so value retention isn't important - in fact if they have lost a significant amount from new that would be ideal.
  • Which cars have 'quickclear' windscreens? 6 Mar 2017 (Forum)
(The s/hand cars I'm considering are the aforementioned Superb, Hondas Accord and Legend, Lexus LS400, Toyotas Avensis and Camry, Mitsubishis Galant and newish Colt diesel auto, Nissan QX, Renault Vel Satis and an M-B W124 or the later W210 E220 CDI. Not exactly a shortlist . . . yet.) Thank you. AF.

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum so first off I would like to say hello to you all :) I was wondering if there are any professional auto electricians on here who may be able to give me some career advice? I completed my apprenticeship with Nissan a little while ago but have been travelling for about year and as it's almost time to go back to normality, I've made a decision that I would like to become an auto electrician since this is the area that most interests me.
