  • Vauxhall Astra 1.6 SXI - Engine light on and flashing 14 Jul 2015 (Forum)
They replaced the coil pack and plugs suprise suprise still the same, they then said it was the ECU so they tried that, Oh oops still the same, next came the big suprise sorry we're stumped so there we are still stuck only saving grace is he's only had to pay for 2 diagnostic's, the car is back on its origonal coil pack. What I've found is if you disconnect the battery for a period of time and reconnect the light will be off, go for a drive its fine but after a mile or two the light will come on then it will start to flash and your in limp home mode it also sounds like its miss firing at idle, disconnect and reconnect the battery it will idle fine but the light will be on but not flashing.
  • Citreon/C Crosser Diesel - Poor Winter Starting 8 May 2015 (Forum)
I have a 57' C Crosser (Diesel) with just under 75K miles and every winter poor starting-Glowplugs lights up 3-5second.Then turn the key but it always hesitates sometime needing a second key turn  .New Battery Installed (bosch S5) and the usual electrical checks Alternator voltage  etc via citreon all show nothing wrong..I had a issue a couple of years ago with Fuel filter etc.. In summer the car starts ina fraction of a second..So last winter (albeit a mild one in my area).I decided to try a heater under the battery and one on the oil sump. And hey presto it starts almost perfectly..So my question..does anyone else have similar issues and am I just Masking/hiding a deeper issue..I would be very greatful if anyone could help me answer is this normal or ?.

the AA checked the alternator, which was fine, and just suggested I get a new battery which I will do today.   Any thoughts on if this sounds like a battery issue or something more serious?.

  • crd ltd 2003 - Jeep Grand Cherokee 6 Jan 2014 (Forum)
I have a grand Cherokee jeep crd ltd auto 2003 - 2685 cc- a  few weeks ago I had the injectors replaced since then the car is very difficult to start in the morning , I have had the heater plugs changed, the relays tested ok, and a new battery, this has made no difference , in the mornings the car -which is kept outside - will take anything from between 40 & 110 seconds to start! If I turn the engine constantly, this morning I cranked the engine for 150 seconds but it didn't start and I didn't want to run the battery flat so I sprayed a very small amount of easy start into the air intake and it fired up immediately.
  • Peugeot 307 SW - Peugeot 307 temporary loss of power steering 14 Dec 2012 (Forum)
I stopped & started several times and on the third start I had the power steering back and it has been OK ever since. (I put in a new battery on Tuesday!) Any ideas what could be the problem please,  I believe it is electrically assisted steering. Thank you,  Vinnie
  • Volkswagen Golf V - GOLF V 1.9 TDI hot start - how to remap? 12 Nov 2012 (Forum)
I don't really have any interest in getting a performance upgrade etc, I would just like to iron out this bug and be kinder on the battery/starter.... If this is all correct then I would be really grateful for a recommendation for where I can get this done nr South/West London and how much it is likely to cost? Please assume I know nothing about ECU fiddling!!
  • alternative tech - KERS for the road 5 Sep 2012 (Forum)
And instead of huge Lithium Ion cells under the seats weighing things down, the limited amount of electricity stored could be taken care of with smaller battery / flywheel / capacitors. Are the amounts of electricity and storage technology not quite there yet  to make this practical, or are there other reasons?
  • Peugeot 306 LD Diesel - Peugeot 307 wont turnover after little bump 31 Aug 2012 (Forum)
I have checked all of the fuses in the fuse box just below the steering wheel and the ones in the box just in front of the battery. There are no obvious wires broken and the battery is only about a month old. I would appreciate any help or suggestions as I am now carless and cant even get to the nearest shops. Thanks
  • Peugeot 306 - 306 Diesel Pump & Alternator problems! Please help 8 Nov 2011 (Forum)
Hi, I'm hoping someone might be able to give me some advice. My car battery died the other day, and turns out that it was due to a fault with the alternator. Upon investigation, it appears that the diesel pump was leaking diesel. Not only this, but it was dripping in the alternator which had caused it to stop charging the battery.
  • Peugeot 306 1.9 - Peugeot key fob/key 19 Aug 2011 (Forum)
I'm getting some batteries later but I don't think their going to work, I'm not sure if the key I have is actually the key for the car! I don't know if the car has an immobliser or not, but having read up I think it does.
  • Mazda 5 - urgent help needed please re mazda 5 return 19 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Basically, I bought a Mazda 5 two weeks ago and it has already been back in the garage with some problems. The garage says they can't find any faults and now, to top it all off the battery has died. I want to return the car for a refund and just wondered if anyone here can help me with advice on this or point me in the right direction. I know there is a 30 day guarantee but the garage haven't told me the conditions.
  • Renault Clio I Diesel - Non Starter 23 Oct 2010 (Forum)
The battery is charging at 14.3volts when the car is running, once the car has been started, even for only minutes it will then start and run all day with no problems, it just seems that it never wants to start if it is left more than 8-10 hours, diesel is getting to the pump ok, and the heater plugs work as they were tested out of the car resting on the engine.
  • Citroen C3 (2002 - 2009) - 02 1.4 HDi driving us mad with random non starting 10 Feb 2010 (Forum)
On the tow there I plugged my phone into the cig lighter to charge it - result one utterly scrambled phone which has never worked again. A few days ago, a new fault - the battery went flat overnight. Replaced it - new one went flat overnight. AA man found a 4amp current drain. But charged battery and it started fine. Electrical specialist has just found cause of drain - relay to injectors.
  • Vauxhall Astra G Petrol (1998 - 2004) - 00 1.6 Engine goosed. 4 Feb 2010 (Forum)
It froze up...he didn't check the coolant. I think he must have tried to tow start it, thinking it was just the starter clicking or battery flat. It seems certain the belt has slipped, because the valves are broken and some are embedded in the head and pistons.. I'm sure a conrod has gone as well. Engineer got the head off today. So, the rest of the car is mint, new tyres, battery , exhaust and he does really look after it .
  • Nissan Micra (1992 - 2003) - 00 1.0 Strange Juddering 26 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Hello, My sisters K11 Micra was originally struggling to start, and having confirmed the battery wasn't as fault (changed with another working battery), we narrowed down the fault to possibly be Spark Plugs, Distributor or Rotor arm. So we thought we would just swap it all over. Put it back together and it started on the button, we thought it was fixed.
  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 02 2.0 Car not starting 7 Aug 2009 (Forum)
When I got there with the car running he tested the battery with the meter and it read 14.5V, even after turning on air-con and headlights. Turned off the car to show him the problem but it started first time! All of a sudden the problem seemed to have gone.
  • BMW 3-Series E46 (1998 - 2005) - 01 1.9 wont start - intermittently!!! 27 Jul 2009 (Forum)
sometimes (maybe the 3rd or 10th time) the starter turns, and the car starts straight away (it doesnt hesitate to start, the starter doesnt have to run for any longer than usual) When this happened, i rolled it down the hill in second gear with the clutch down, with the key ignition turned on (2nd position), and tried to bump start it. That didnt work either!!! i was very suprised at this, if the battery or started was at fault - then bump starting should definitely work?? I had to call the breakdown man, because the car just wouldnt start. He came out, and tested the battery - which was fine, he told me to push and tried to bump start it as well, and it wouldnt work.
  • Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 00 2.5 Alternator problem - need advice ASAP 9 Jul 2009 (Forum)
Hi guys, I'd really appreciate some quick advice with this, my alternator recently stopped charging so I put it in at my mate's garage and they replaced it with a new Bosch unit (think it was rated at 130A) When I got it back I noticed the car was mis-firing and also the lights were flickering even whilst driving (it used to do it at idle but stopped as soon as you revved it). My mate has now replaced the alternator with another new Bosch unit and also fitted a new battery (apparently they need a particular Lead Calcium battery and mine only had a cheapo one fitted). Despite that the lights are still flickering even when revving the car, the alternator is charging at 14.8V at idle and 15.11V when revving.
  • Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 2000 1.4 cutting out problem 5 Dec 2008 (Forum)
I park on a flat area at work and never had a problem when taking it out at lunchtimes or after work. I do however have a dodgy battery (completely de-charges after 2 days of no use). A friend said it could be to do with the internals of the battery being at an angle. Could this be my problem? My remote central locking has died recently too around the same time as this problem started happening.
