• Mondeo II major electrical outage. 4 Sep 2004 (Forum)
  Take key out and try parking lights and they do not work. A little while later all is fine and working. 12.65V on battery terminals and on the engine block. The battery terminals look spotless but not greased. I will disconnect both terminals, clean them with fine emery paper, reconnect and grease em. I do not know how old the battery is but it is clean although the car has been valetted by a dealer prior to my buying it.

  The battery is about 50-70% charged and so has plenty of room for more charge to be accepted. 13.2 is too low to charge the battery fully, but 14.0 is quite acceptable. Once the 14v charge is initiated the full load voltage only drops to 13.7, again quite acceptable.

  My Car (1994 escort 1.8td) has had a problem for a good few months now whereby on long journeys after about an hour the battery warning light would start to glow. it wouldn't come on full strength but would glow on and off. revs/gear made no difference and the fanbelt is definetly ok. found the the alternator wire (big thick red one) had rubbed through it's insulation and was intermittently earthing on the bodywork. cleared that up with insulation tape and zip ties to keep it out the way. the problem has recurred and has got significantly worse. it's now happening within 10 minutes of starting. i've checked the cable again and drawn a blank. all seems nice and insulated to me.

  I remember reading somewhere that these blippers sometimes lose their settings when the battery goes flat/battery not replaced following the correct procedure. In this case it may just be a case of resetting the blipper. He's going down to the Renault dealer this lunchtime. If you can clue him up to what he should ask for/what the technician should try I'm sure he'd be very grateful.

  2004 Petrol 2.2l Design 16valve 1. Flat battery after driving couple of weeks back.Later when testing: Suspect alternator as with all lights, aircon, radio, fan, voltage at battery reduced to about 12.7V on 2000 revs. Didn't try driving, but then dove to work etc 14miles (spare battery in car in case) and everthing fine, charging 13.5 volts with everthing on.

  Hi all ive got a vectra c 1.9 cdti for the past few days its been stugling to start or starting straight away,well its been somthing like this one time it will start first turn the next it will turn over for 3-4 seconds and itl sound as if the battery is going flat then if i turn the key back and try again it will turn over and start then itl struggle to start then itl start first time,this morning i went to the shop and it started first time turned it of and it started first time and then i went in to town and when i came back to it it turned over for liturally 3-4 seconds and sounded like the battery was going flat so i tryed again and it was just clicking nothing there so i got some one to jump me of with jump leads and that would not start the car nothing there so a couple of strapping young lads came and push me of and it started so i drove home 10 miles and when i got home i turned it of and tryed starting it again and there was nothing there so i got my wife to turn and hold the egnition on and i tapped the starter motor and seloniod on the side of it and it did then try for about a second now nothing just egnition lights............The light on the battery is green so to me the battery is ok i may be wrong i dont no im getting no battery light on on the dash no engine warning light not even the engine managment lights are coming on,only for about 3 minutes when i first get in the car an drive then it goes of but its not coming on when im driving it im not loosing any power when it does run it runs spot on only starting issues has anybody got any ideas or sufferd from simla symptems..........Thank you in advance for any help,glyn.....

  The battery was dead but left in situ for about six weeks before being replaced with new fully charged battery. On the first occassion the key or fob and button would open both doors now neither the fob or key or button will open the drivers door, passenger door is OK.

  Apart from the losses in the charger, there are also losses in the car's inverter together with the battery's losses. D.c. charging is more effecient but usually has a higher unit price as the charger has to convert the a.c.
• Vauxhall Corsa - Portable jump starter on a Vauxhall Corsa 6 Jan 2021 (Forum)
  I've ordered this one off of amazon but upon reading my car's user manual it says 'Do not start with quick charger'. The jump starter is for the correct battery (12v 1000A) so I'm not sure if the user manual just says this to be safe, what do you guys think, is it safe to use this to jump start my dead battery?

  I have a 1998 306. when the battery needed replacing the radio reset itself and requested the code. in my wisdom i entered some random numbers to see what would happen and now the radio appears to be locked - the display just shows "- - - -". i now have the correct code and have tried disconnecting the battery to get the radio to reset itself, but it now seems to be jammed on the 4 dashes.

  We have not been able to source a towbar from Honda or other manufacturers which is capable of powering the fridge and recharging the caravan battery for our HRV. Honda state ‘ that the capacity of the alternator with the HR-V is not high enough, meaning that during towing …….. the caravan can drain the battery’.

  I have had breakdown rescue me twice, 1 said I flooded the engine, the next said my immobiliser is draining my battery... My car says bulb ku blu when turning the key and starts straight away when attached to my man' s car with jump leads... DEFO NOT BATTERY OR ALTERNATOR AS HAD THESE CHECKED ALREADY... Am stuck now as to what it can be and really need some advice please

  Hi, am hoping someone can help me out. I've just had a local garage change the clutch on my 306. When they reconnected the battery the immobiliser keypad has both the red and green lights on solidly. The battery was disconnected for over 12 hours - if that is relevant. Is there any way to reset it or could it have defaulted back to the factory code?

  Key in and turn dash lights all flash and dim along with the radio, engine wont turn and a pink relay under the bonnet is clicking. I have checked battery 12.8v, meter onto engine from battery live is showing the same voltage. jumped car and starts but dies very quickly after leads are removed. Any ideas? Cheers in advance

  Drove out yesterday and on comes the oil light and battery light. Seems the alternator belt snapped activating the battery light and the AA reckon the flying belt bits have somehow taken out wiring to the oil sensor or the sensor itself. More likely wiring as the sensor is apparently in the crankcase.

  After sitting in my Renault Espace with the air con on (for 20 mins) a warning light then came on saying "battery charge fault". I had the car checked and the battery is fine. However, while looking under the bonnet and turning the air con on, the fan belt seemed to slow and stop for a few seconds this continued until the air con was turned back off.

  Hi we have started to get a problem with our parking brake,when we wish to park (ELECTRICAL) the brake wil either come on or it wont.When it does not come on we have to leave it in gear. when it cannot be left in gear ,we have to dissconect the battery then reconnect it ,this will usually enable the parking brake to work again ,but only for a short while. it is becomeing a pain having to keep dissconnecting the battery.                 Hope you can help            Bill

  i have a 407 diesel. when i try to start it hot or cold it sounds as though the battery is flat although i have just bought a new battery, new starting motor.new clutch when you turn the ignition ther seems to be a lot of compression before it actually starts, sometimes you can here a heavy clunk and then it will start.

    Bought a second hand Ford Fiesta at the weekend and when I got back to my parents and tried re-starting it the battery was as flat as a pancake. Charged the battery up but now the radio needs a security code. The garage arent being particularly helpful. Make of radio is 4500 RS EON and the Serial number is M606833 Does anyone know where I can get the code for this as the page at the back of the manual where its supposed to be is blank.
