A Bentley at a car boot sale, or outside Tesco's or a Robin Reliant or an Allegro outside St Georges hill golf course.
  • Company Car - Keep/Sell own? 14 Dec 2007 (Forum)
I stand a chance of a job which comes with a company car (Passat 1.9 Tdi) I have a 2 month old C4 Picasso with just over 2000 miles on the clock. It is a 2.0HDI Exclusive with EGS. Having both is not possible. So, bearing in mind the permutations of tax on co' car, available for private use, no road fund license or insurance to pay, depreciation of Citroen value, laying it up for duration(?).....
  • Bland cars 8 Aug 2007 (Forum)
Just got back from a weeks holiday in Finland where we hired a Nissan Note and did about 1200 miles. The car was virtually new and did everything it was supposed to do in an OK sort of way but oh dear how absolutely boring. If it was a colour it would be magnolia. Got back to Stansted and picked up 12 year old Pug 306 with heavy clutch, rattly bits and pieces and no aircon but what a joy to drive after the Nissan.
  • Physical Car Security Device 23 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Hi, My old corsa was nearly nicked but I managed to chase them off and now I'm looking for a car lock as I need to keep the car for at least another year. I was looking at the market and found it hard to find reviews on the current models.
  • Why does it take 12 weeks to make a car? 5 Jul 2006 (Forum)
At the risk of sounding like a three year old on a long journey, why does it take so long?
  • Car Wars 16 Feb 2006 (Forum)
A couple of things caught my eye in tonight's Car wars program. 1. The "unmarked" Impreza the police were using had 4 huge aerials mounted on a square plate in middle of roof. Even from a distance, that would say to me - unmarked police car!! Are these aerials used for tracking tracker-type devices?
  • Car Registrations 8 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Hi We purchased a pre-reg MB in Dec 2004 on the 54 plate. We knew that soon it would look old with the 05 plate on the market, but purchased the car nevertheless. are there any plates out there that can be bought relatively cheapely that makes on believe the car is 05 reg EG: L105 VCY actually reads, lima, 1 , 0 , 5 VCY or anything similar that reads as the years reg with 105 following it and the three alapbetical numbers Thanks in advance Lucian PS: We know it costs around the 150 for transfer fees, and we don,t want any silly comments - just helpful ones please!!!!

  • First Car?? 10 Mar 2001 (Forum)
Hello all, I just thought that i would try and get your ideas on what you would consider as a sound first car for a 18 year old bloke. I have thought about the usual cars such as Novas and Fiestas however i feel that they are far too common and the youngsters that drive them have given them a bad name. I would like something a bit more original and grown up which i would be able to hold onto for a good number of years.
  • KIA Rio (2005 - ) - CDRi - Should I buy one 14 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Hello, This is my first post, so bear with me if I have posted this in the wrong area. I'm looking to trade in my Seat Ibiza 1.9tdi Sport PD 130. I bought this car when it was 2 years old and I have owned it for the past three years. It has been a troublesome car and has cost me a lot of money during my period of ownership. In fact the experience has left me certain that I will never choose to own a Seat again, which is sad, because they are nice cars.
  • MOT query 29 Feb 2020 (Forum)
Just been looking on the DVLA site at the MOT history of a car a friend is considering, what a dog, just over 5 years old, 57,000 miles, passed 1st, failed 2nd MOT (wipers and bulbs) with advisories (tyres and brakes), failed 3rd MOT on the advisories from 2nd MOT (tyres now illegal and brakes metal to metal).
  • SUV - Buying advice sought please 20 Jun 2014 (Forum)
I currently have a Mitsubishi ASX petrol SUV which i bought originally for cash when it was about 9 months old and is now just over 3 years old and I am looking to part ex it before it gets much older and get another SUV.  I haven't quite decided yet which one I will go for but this time I will probably do it on a PCP or similar rather than getting a loan so I can change cars more frequently.
  • Ford C-MAX - New Grand C-Max 1.6TDCi - poor performance 13 Feb 2014 (Forum)
It makes driving up hills and getting out of junctions very tricky. On the whole it feels laggy and unresponsive, like the car is deliberately holding back. I realise the Grand is a bigger, heavier car than my old C-Max, but I would have thought performance should be better than this. It has improved somewhat over the last week (350 miles done) - maybe due to me getting used to the very short 1st gear, and maybe due to the engine loosening up.
  • Toyota Aygo (2005 - ) - Toyota Aygo Blue OR Ford Ka? 27 May 2009 (Forum)
I really need to start thinking about replacing my old car, and with the new government scrappage scheme, this seems like a good time. My current small car is a 1998 Nissan Micra 1.3 GX, but it really is starting to get old. It struggles to hit 60mph, it has a very poor safety rating, the fuel economy can't be brilliant, and the central locking is now completely bust.
  • Insurance on the rise?? 1 May 2008 (Forum)
The figures I was getting for new cars just makes me think I should go for whatever slightly older (but newer than mine) thing I feel like given that there doesnt seem to be a huge difference in their prices - £700 is crazy for an old Ka and I fear if my policy will go up next year on what I have now I may as well upgrade???
  • Service interval - Ford Mondeo 22 Sep 2006 (Forum)
I am now wondering when I should have it serviced next. Should it be on the anniversary of the first service, i.e. May 2007, or should it be when the car is 2 years old, September 2007 ? I only do about 8,000 miles a year so the mileage doesn't come into it as I will only have done about 21,500 miles by May 2007 and 24,200 miles by September 2007 anyway.
  • What causes Road Rage 31 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Question 2: What happened to self control and tollerance of other drivers Question 3: Is the answer to 1 & 2 the congested roads and world we live in have caused this problem I worry for my children as they start to learn to drive that they will face more and more of this sort of aggression \" Keep doing the same old thing, youll get the same old thing, try something different today!\"
  • Why do people.... 24 Aug 2003 (Forum)
The company is going bust for a very good reason. Think Yaris' are desirable by young drivers? They're for 70 year old women. And they have no character. And are expensive. (same for Honda Jazz) Use large insurance companies for their car insurance? Its usually more expensive than using a specialist. Still use Kwik Fit/National Tyres?

  • My day. 10 Jul 2001 (Forum)
Aroung July each year I have a bad day, a very bad day, Today was that day. The worse car I look after comes for its yearly MOT/service. It's a 10yr old Seat Terra. For those lucky enough never to have noticed one they are cheap copies of a Fiat Panda in van form. If you have any concerns about trim quality on any current mainstream car just sit in one of these for two minutes without breaking somehing, that'll put things in perspective.
