Any - Stop / Start Systems 10 Dec 2017 (Forum)
This post came about as the result of a direct question elsewhere on the forum. I was asked specifically what I thought the effect of s/s was on engine life. But this set me off on something of a rant about how s/s had come into being as well as it's effects on the cars mechanical systems (and not-so-mechanical driver). After a bit of editing, I came up with this. -
Spartan Warriors. 7 May 2020 (Forum)
All they tended to come with was central locking, in fact there was a cheaper base model that had absolutely nothing. This is what the fleet market wanted in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s,utter simplicity. I ran one a 1.4 boggo base model for a while, I sold it at 93,000 miles then took it back in part ex at 120k and ran it again for a while. Great, cheap and simple. All you needed and nothing much to go wrong. -

Whilst I can see myself in it, my family (especially my boys who are always questioning when I am going to replace the S-Max) declared that they preferred the S-Max also. -
Porsche Boxster 986 + Boxster S (1996 - 2004) - Which boxster to buy??? 30 Nov 2014 (Forum)
After reading pages and pages of baffling reviews about running costs, engine seals, rear visibility and lack of 'golf club space', I was not put off, however, I am still no further in finding where to start. Firstly, as I say, I am 25 so the "S" version will hurt my pocket slightly more in terms of insurance and also the thought of that much speed under my foot after driving a focus is a little bit...scary. (But if strongly advised to stear clear of other models I would do so). -
Audi A4 B7 2.0 TDI S (2005) - Oil Pressure light, dealer advised 'drive on'... 17 Feb 2013 (Forum)
I am posting this article on behalf of my partners father who is not the forum type! He owns a 2005, A4 (B7, 2005) 2.0 TDi S. He appears to have tun into the oil light / wrecked engine issue as explained in this article The mobile phone - as Sat Nav & voice only 9 Aug 2010 (Forum)
That worked well and was a surprise to me - the phone reading the street names and the larger road signs. That`s the main thust of this thread. Without looking at a screen and listening to the very chatty voice - I found I was reading road signs and street names - and was concentrating on them and on the road more. -
Volvo S60 (2000 - 2009) - 2.0T S - 124k FVSH - good buy? 13 Mar 2008 (Forum)

You, experiences, leading or trailing edge? Cars 14 Dec 2007 (Forum)
But more than that, beyond cars, attitude affecting life experiences. I can remember my father buying one of the very first calculators in the ? late 60`s or early 70`s? it cost around £70. Or about 2+ weeks wages, only to see them become almost free during the working life of that model. Then a rich mate who bought one of the very first clunky digital quartz watches for £300 in the early 70`s only for it to be an expensive museum piece a few months later. -
Nissan Almera it is. Internet purchase? 19 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Hello again all, Have been out in the cars for a spot of test driving following my earlier thread: http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/forum/post/index.htm?f=2&t=25310. Basically, the Nissan Almera has won hands down. Sure, it\'s an old-man car which a 25 and 22 year old really shouldn\'t be considering as their main car, but was highly impressed with the equipment in the SE that I drove, but let\'s be honest, it doesn\'t take much to impress me having owned my P reg Civic for three years now. -
VW Starting Problems 27 Jul 2004 (Forum)
My Uncle seems to think that the second problem is caused by the automatic choke not kicking in at all to help it start from cold and the coughing and spluttering is caused by fuel starvation as the engine is trying to fire but there?s no fuel there as the chokes knackered. It used to start like a dream any time you wanted it to from cold (apart from when it was damp in the quote above) and it?s always been like that but the last few months have been really puzzling. -

Why can't I buy Mercs from Mercedes? 5 May 2003 (Forum)
Off the track slighly but to get things off my chest .. in 1984 I went to Mercedes' museum in Germany. As a 14-year-old I fell in love with the Mercedes S-Class. Strange, I know, but true. 11 years later we tried buying an E-class brand new for Mrs V Senior. We failed. We bought an E250D 2nd hand instead. Thank-you Great Trade Centre. 4 years later we tried to get a 'Signature' S-Class used car for Mr V Senior.
