Kia Sportage 1.7 litre - Biodiesel blocked fuel filter 21 Dec 2014 (Forum)
Having had a blocked fuel filter within 5000 miles from new and with my car now on 11000 miles, I am concerned that with colder weather, I will again experience what is apparently "clouding" of the diesel fuel and blockage of the fuel filter. -
Ford Fiesta - 2009 1.6 diesel timing issues 26 Jul 2016 (Forum)
Hi i have just had my timing belt fitted by a mechanic in june 2016 on a diesel 2009 1.6TDCI fiesta. This was done at less than 84,000 Since then the fuel seems to not last as long, although it has been a while since i filled it full to the brim. Due to usage and costs i've been running it on supermarket diesel and generally filling up from empty (fuel light on less than 50 miles) to half a tank. -

My car has been in for repairs for 16 weeks - should I keep it? 11 May 2017 (Ask HJ)
I bought a Volkswagen Passat Estate from a big car supermarket last year for £18,000. It was 10 months old, had done 5000 miles and was in immaculate condition.... -
Ford Focus Mk1 99/T 1.8 petrol - Badly reduced fuel economy 1 Feb 2015 (Forum)
I've eliminated things like tyre pressure/condition and despite having a small oil leak, it seems to make no difference whether the car is a Max or Min oil level. One thing I haven't changed for several years is the fuel filter, but despite a friend suggesting it as a possible cause I can't really see how it could cause the car to use *more* fuel?? I almost exclusively buy Shell fuel and never buy cheap supermarket stuff. -
Optimax test results 8 Mar 2004 (Forum)
v=e&t=18620&m=187069 )to run an experiment running my car on Optimax for the edification of the backroom gang. I've complained often enough that I've never seen a scientific test of "quality" vs supermarket fuels; I offer the next best thing, an utterly unscientific test. Premise: There is a benefit in fuel economy to be had using Shell Optimax petrol. Equipment: One 1999 Vauxhall Omega 2.5CDX, mileage 85,000, almost exclusively run on Tesco fuel - Clubcard points! -
Ford FoFocus 1.6 Ghia MK2 - Hesitation accelerating 17 Feb 2014 (Forum)
Not sure whether it's related or not, but often if I turn the engine off and restart shortly after, it struggles to start when engine is warm. I have tried injector cleaner additive and never use supermarket fuel. -
2000 Ford focus 1.8 petrol - Increased mpg - redex or superunleaded? 16 Mar 2010 (Forum)
At 37 mpg combined official I'd expected about 30 mpg. The car had been serviced, oil and filters, and is runnning fine. I've always use supermarket unleaded but decided to try BP superunleaded. I also put in some redex fuel/additive injector cleaner. Its only been a few days but I've noticed the fuel gauge not moving down as fast compared to before. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - Surely this car can use any Diesel sold in UK ? 8 Nov 2007 (Forum)
Yesterday I went to collect the car from the dealer and was informed that I had been using poor quality diesel which is contaminated and that this has caused excess wear to the engine and damaged parts of the fuel electronic controls. Further repairs will not be covered by guarantee and I am facing a bill of potentially £1800 or more (estimated) to replace these parts. I have used all brands of fuel (from brand name stations and from supermarkets). -

Peugeot 307 (2001 - 2007) - 01 2.0 starting problem 27 Jan 2016 (Forum)
The following day and ever since the car has failed to start. I've tried changing the fuel filter (as suggested by others) but still no joy. It has also been suggested it could be a fly wheel sensor of even air in the fuel lines? Would be grateful of any help of advise of anyone who has had simular problems. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 2.2 TDCi (05) - EGR valve? 12 Sep 2007 (Forum)
The ST TDCi has suddenly started emitting blue smoke on start up and missing badly under engine load (esp 2-3K rpm). I'll confess to using supermarket fuel but, in my defence: it could be a bad batch as it started straight after filling up on Thursday and it's run fine for the past 11 months, there is a dearth of Shell/Esso/BP stations in this area that are convenient for me to use, and all my handbook says is 'use fuel that meets EN590' which I presumed was a standard specifictation, and don't use bio diesel. -
What is causing my Mercedes-Benz E320 diesel to smoke under acceleration? 25 May 2013 (Ask HJ)
I have a 2002 Mercedes E320 diesel automatic estate. It has done 115,000 miles and I now use mainly Shell V-Power or other brand fuel, but I have been... -
Good old foaming at the mouth Derv 8 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Eventually putting half a litre down the body work - can`t remember when I last did that. I last saw this years ago using supermarket Derv and perhaps have been spoilt by exclusively using Shell none foaming fuel which gives a clear fuel `surface` in the filler neck. So what`s the score on foaming - for those who fill up with differing brands - perhaps this was a one off? -
Do you have any idea what is causing an engine fault on my Renault Scenic? 3 Aug 2013 (Ask HJ)

Citroen C Crosser 2.2HDi - Diesel additives? which one and how often 3 May 2015 (Forum)
Now planning to fill up with Shell or BP, not supermarket grade, and driving 250 miles on Wednesday. Would one of the small bottles of diesel additives in the tank make sense at this stage? to clean out any further risks? Note... the car has driven fine all week since on the same Tesco fuel. -
Nissan Note - Help needed - intermittent vehicle fault 26 Nov 2015 (Forum)
Yesterday we switched cars and I put half a bottle of redex into the tank incase the issue was with fuel being ran to the dregs, or quality of the supermarket fuel. I drove the 23 mile journey to work with no issues. The car sat in my works car park for ten hours and started fine when I came to leave at 1am this morning. -

Vectra Advice 9 May 2004 (Forum)
I\'ve never driven a modern diesel and like the sound of the economy and power they give, but is it worth forking out £1000 extra? I won\'t save much in fuel costs as my annual mileage is only around 8k made up of a daily commute and the odd longer run at weekends.
