  • VW Servicing 1 Sep 2005 (Forum)
Dear backroom Servicing time for Mrs Doubledime's Golf. It has covered 25,000 miles in five years. We have owned it since new. The main dealer serviced it for the first three years. Last year a local non VW independent garage serviced the car and changed the cam belt.
  • How to obtain CCTV footage for accident? 20 Jun 2005 (Forum)
There is a CCTV covering the accident spot and the road leading upto the accident spot so we are hoping to obtain the CCTV footage as evidence that the other party is at fault. How and where would we be able to obtain this footage?
  • Accident, not my fault, should I even te 14 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Hi, Friday night on the motorway a van crashed into the vehicle ahead of him in the fast lane, then swerved into my lane and hit my side. My car doors were quite badly damaged. I've got all his details and that, and I assume it would be his fault and covered by his employer's insurance (he was in a company van). I pay a lot for my insurance as I've only been driving a few months and have a high risk job, and can't really afford to pay any more.
  • Renault Megane 1996 water temp gauge 27 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Also, on a related subject, does anyone know whether there is a forum specifically for Renault owners - I've looked at the Renault Owner's club site, but can't see any forums and am not clear whether modern cars like the Megane are included. There also doesn't appear to be any contact details for the club that I could find. I'm reluctant to spend £25 on joining only to find that the members area doesn't have any forums, and the club doesn't cover the Megane.
  • Mitsubishi Colt 1.6 16 Sep 2004 (Forum)
Do they perhaps remove the gearbox so they can drain the torque converter? Not in 4 hours they don't. As the car is just out or warranty it will be going to our usual independant for servicing.
  • 94 Camry V6 overheating 6 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Got the car towed to a Toyota dealer in Slough and will find out on Friday what the problem is. If its not too bad and driveable I will take it to a Toyota specialist nearby but am I on the right path ?
  • BX 19 diesel - drumming noise at 65 17 May 2004 (Forum)
Exhaust not blowing. Wondered if a wheel bearing might be going or, alternatively, perhaps a drive shaft? Has only covered just over 70K and has been carefully looked after. All thoughts from any BX experts out there would be appreciated. CG
  • Insurance renew mess up 5 Feb 2004 (Forum)
I paid up the new new insurance and have today checked my bank account only to find my old insurerers have set up a new direct debit and and have renewed the policy - so my car is now insured twice. I rang them up only to be told that I should send in my old certificate and proof of my new insurance only on recieving that will they cancel the policy and charge for the period covered as well as an unspecified "administration charge".
  • Radio interference 21 Mar 2003 (Forum)
When I listen to Medium Wave, which I tend to do a lot, I am getting a huge amount of interference from the car stereo. Sounds like static but is vaguely related to engine speed and is loud and thorough enough to totally cover the station itself. What with the CD changer, Sat Nav, Phone kit and everything else, I had just resigned myself to not really being able to listen to MW anymore.
  • Which Civic Auto? 16 Mar 2003 (Forum)
The Concerto has a 1.6 engine which works well with the autobox but a trawl through Autotrader\'s website comes up with several 1.4\'s - does anybody know if these are conventional or belt driven boxes and are as reliable as the 1.6. Have checked HJ\'s CBC breakdown but there is not much info on the 1.4. The car will be used mainly for school runs, and local driving with the occasional motorway trip and cover approx 8 - 10k miles a year. It must have 5 doors and be automatic and be Focus /Astra size. Is there anything else I should consider?
  • exploding Puma 1 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Anybody had problems with a Ford Puma? I have bigtime! I own a 1.7 zetec engined Ford Puma in which I have covered 34000 miles since I bought the car new in March 2000. It came with the standard 1 year warranty. which has since been increased on this model to three years. I recently experienced a catastrophic engine failure (whilst cruising at 50mph in top gear) while I was on business several hundred miles from home.
  • Catalytic Converter Audi A4 110 TDI 18 Jan 2002 (Forum)
To date the catalytic converter has been replaced twice. The present one is now defective and needs replaced, (the car has been serviced by Audi from new and has covered 68,000 miles). When the last one was fitted by the Audi dealer( Sept 99) I was informed that the part had a 3 year waranty. When thisone began to rattle I contacted the dealer and was told that there was no waranty on this part.
  • Going electric? 29 Mar 2022 (Forum)
The only sensible way to run them or most pricey new cars at the moment is via a contract lease as the leasing firms get huge discounts on the cars from the manufacturers. It typically costs £60/£70 a month less than a PCP and ends in exactly the same way with you handing the car back at the end with no money left in it.
  • Mazda 6 Diesel Sport 2L 2002 model - ENGINE STALLING THEN KNOCKING SOUND PLEASE HELP 17 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I have since started the car with the plastic engine cover removed.  It starts first time and runs but roughly and shakes a bit.  As looking at the engine block from the front of the car i can see the following: The two right hand metal discs on the top of the engine which house the injectors bounce up and down slightly in time with the knocking/tapping noise.
  • Need a new car, how much should I spend? 2 Feb 2023 (Forum)
Hey all  My car looks like it's on its way out and it may be time for a new old one. I don't have a max budget per se, as I'll be taking out a loan for it (I very recently got a relatively well paying job so I don't have the cash to hand to buy a car outright, but I know  I can cover loan repayments) In theory I could spend up to £5k on a car, but I don't want to do that unless its necessary.
  • BMW 120D MSPORTS - MOT pass but should be fail? 5 Oct 2018 (Forum)
I purchased a car from a dealer on the 19th September.  As part of the purchase the car trader was to MOT the car and provide a 12mth ticket which he rang to inform me had been done on the 18th September and in his words it 'sailed' through.
  • Luton meet and greet valet parking crashed my car 11 Sep 2014 (Forum)
My insurance company phoned me a couple of days after that to tell me that the valet driver had crashed my car into another on the way to dropping my car back and the driver was looking to claim on my insurance as the valet parking company. When I described the new damage to my car, it matched completely to the report of the accident contact between the cars.
  • Alfa Romeo 156 (1998 - 2005) - Broken down - dealer's liability - help!! 6 Jul 2009 (Forum)
I was informed that the big end had completely broken and it would cost more than the car was bought for to repair it (a new engine, labour costs etc). I contacted the dealership where I bought the car and the dealer told me that my warranty would only cover £300 towards the cost of repair.
  • Buying car from dealer & Motability? 3 Aug 2007 (Forum)
How do I safeguard myself to show that he is actually the owner? He said the DVLA have the piece of paper showing that the car is owned by him and that he is in the motor trade. 2. He told me that if I were to buy, he would need an insurance cover note from me so that he can get the car re-classified from disabled to normal PLG so I am able to tax it.
  • Handbrake Calamity 21 May 2007 (Forum)
Of course, there is also the matter of insurance - would household buildings/contents cover the garage door and would there be a query over the safety of the car? Any advice gratefully received.
