  I have a BMW 330d Touring, March 2010. The car is a superb drive, but the combination of 18in wheels, run flats and potholed roads is driving me crazy....

  Hi to all & Happy new year (for the people who own non french cars it probably will be)! Ime having yet another 307 niggly problem(NO)you say lol ! Car starts ok,when running slight missfire(even when warmed up)accompanied by slight popping sound/no smoke though.driving feels sluggish(no smoke)but diesel knock sound? If MAF discoupled whilst running engine smoothes out,popping sound dissapears as you hear solenoids at G/Box disengage & driving becomes more responsive & more power,could this be Maf or solenoid valve fault as launch diagnosis has revealed no faults & there are no lights on display ?

  (Once the engine warms up, there's no problem at all and the car runs beautifully). I had the coolant temp sensor replaced a year ago which seemed to improve things slightly, but now the problem is back with a vengeance. Any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated!

  1992, 2.3 automatic, 142,000 miles Normally runs very well but lately the idle tickover is a bit eratic and rough. It normally runs at about 750-800 revs and is very smooth. Now, it sometimes runs at 550 revs and seems to be nearly going to stall.

  I'm looking for a few suggestions as to what may be my problem before I pay Mr Peugeot lots of money for a diagnosis the car a 1999 so pre HDi is hard to start, when it does it constantly hunts from around 700 to 1500 RPM as if i was stabing at the accelerator pedal, it will idle like this for a couple of minutes before the cutting out but will restart and run the same again. All the time it's running it's really rattly as though the pump timing is out, also it blows a bit of white smoke and smells of unburnt diesel from the exhaust I've checked all electrical connections and tried an alternative no1 injector with the needle lift sensor, and checked the belt timing, now i'm lost HELP!!

  The independent engineer who does my car was scratching his head over a not very old, 4-litre I think, Jaguar XJ6 the other day. He said it 'wasn't running right' and would also run with three of the plug leads disconnected. He demonstrated. The engine idled very quietly and was clearly not in a bad mechanical state. It continued to run perfectly at and above an idle with any or all of the three rear plug leads disconnected.

  Hi, My Xantia 1.9TD engine has just started running on after I sprung an LHM leak fron a hydraulic pipe and it covered the engine bay. I've fixed the pipe but it runs on every time now for quite a while before I can stop it, so it's possible that the cutoff solenoid is being shorted by fluid or I've disturbed the wiring.

  This time the choke looks the same (bi metal coil) except there is a wire running into the housing and was a fine spring running around inside to an end. In the workshop manual it says to test the circuit with a wire and bulb and if it does not light up discard. What does this wire do ?.

  Mine is a 95 M, 170,000 miles. The car has been serviced regularly, and has always run well. The other day it suddenly began to run roughly, no mechanical noises or bangs. Now it is difficult to start, and runs on 3 as far as I can tell. White smoke from the exhaust, and a plume of ditto if you take the dipstick out: the dipstick does not blow out of its hole.

  2.0 bora sport - had to stop on the way home last night and became aware the engine was running very unevenly same problem this morning, it's also noticable the engine is down on power and very hesitant under acceleration the two local dealers i've called say it needs plugging in to the diagnostics and neither of them can do that until the middle of next week, and i'm not happy about running round in a car i dont feel confident about any helpful ideas ?
