Audi 80 starting problem 18 Jan 2006 (Forum)
Being member of the AA and having Home start I thought I would call them out. The man came out, spent approx 40 mins checking plugs, leads, fuel, filters, belts, fuses etc. and then in the end had to admit he didn't know what the problem was. I have now been relayed to an Audi main dealer who is now looking at it. Any one out there have any idea what the problem could be? -
Tipo fails MoT on emissions 8 Dec 2005 (Forum)
History is that after driving through a very wet patch of road a couple of months back it developed a chronic misfire. New plugs, points and leads failed to cure it, found to be timing, so had new cambelt fitted - ran fine, but consuming way too much fuel. Gave it a treatment of injector cleaner, still no improvement, so put in in for early test to see what else it failed on, with a view to fix if cheap. -
Mondeo TD Electrical problem 29 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Even as we stood beside the car with the hazards flashing you could see the interior light dimming every time the flashed, this leads us to the probable conlcusion that the battery has died. But, there were no warnings of any problems with alternator, what exactly would cause a battery to just stop working in mid jounrey? Unless anyone can think of a more likely culprit for the lights dimming etc? -
Rover 420SLDT Starting Probs 21 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Hi,I was wondering if anyone has got any ideas regarding my starting problems.I went to start it this morning bearing in mind it was very cold with a heavy frost,I pre-heated it in the usual way but it wouldn't fire,I tried it again and once again there was no joy,now I know the glow plugs are ok as I checked them last weekend, the pre heat light comes on and goes out very quickly after about 4-5 seconds.I managed to get it started in the end by putting 1 jump lead on + and shorting the glow plugs out and then it started fine,it was almost as if it didn't preheat or for not long enough, has anyone got any ideas to help me out.I was wondering if the preheat relay was faulty??? -
95 Golf VR6 Misfire 30 May 2005 (Forum)
A month or so ago, when looking under the bonnet, I noticed that one of the plugs was arcing against the cylinder head. (It had new plugs and leads 12 months ago.) However, I have not seen this since and as the car is rarely used, I put it down to condensation. The backbox seems to be on its way out, there is no obvious leakage but I believe the baffles could be the key. -
JJ Leeming - ahead of his time? 19 Mar 2005 (Forum)
He was strongly opposed to the view that accidents are caused by the wilful misdeeds of drivers, who must therefore be punished for their 'crimes'. Indeed, he pointed out that this blame culture leads to drivers being reluctant to talk openly about their actions to accident investigators for fear of prosecution, with the result that the true contributory factors may never be established. I had never heard of him until now but he seemed to be a switched on fellow that abhored the poor use of statistics and believed in using control sites to assess road safety improvements properly. -
FSA rules gone mad in Motor Trade 19 Jan 2005 (Forum)
Also he was told that any deviation from FSA rules (inc the heinous crime of giving people a brochure), is gross misconduct which will lead to instant dismissal. He has already lost 2 customers over the weekend due to this new rule. He does appreciate that getting a name and address is good practice, but lots of customers on initial contact just want to gather info on possible cars and come back if they are interested. -
Oil - Comparing Technical Data 7 Jan 2005 (Forum)
*********** Edited by Mark (RLBS) *********** Simon, I randomly took four phrases from your post and found three of them word for word within the oil bible. This leads me to believe that your post is sufficiently close to the oil bible that it should not be here, and that a link to the document is more appropriate. BTW, apparantly he prefers a link to the site, rather than the document, to ensure that people receive the latest copy. -

Saxo surging 22 Nov 2004 (Forum)

I have changed ,plugs, leads, lambda probe, fuelfilter, coil, temp sensor (to ecu), exhaust and cat were change about 2 months ago. I drained out some petrol for a contamination check. Heh!... 18 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Pied Piper Pc led drivers astray Motorists were lead on a mystery tour through Essex after a policeman accidentally switched on a sign telling the drivers behind to "Follow Me." Five motorists took the instruction to heart and tailed the police Volvo for a number of miles as the officer carried out his routine patrol. -
Mondeo Starting Problem 3 Feb 2004 (Forum)
Silence (Nothing happens at all) Up to now the car has eventually started and it runs normally with no problem at all. At the suggestion of Honest John I have changed the leads but this has not solved the problem. Can anyone help. -
Fiesta 1.25 slightly lumpy tickover 6 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Symptomatic perhaps of a partial "miss" e.g if some of HT tracking to earth? As it's nearly due for plugs, I thought I'd stick some new ones in, followed by some new leads if this doen't help. (Ford ones) Strangely enough, the car performs perfectly otherwise - accelerating and cruising without missing a beat! Also, for the last 5 years, I've been running the car on Costco Chevron fully synth oil , changed every 3000 up until a few months ago when I thought I'd give the Ford stuff a try... -
Straight Six Engine Rotor Arms 4 Nov 2003 (Forum)
A member of the Triumph 2000 Register has reported that his car has been suffering intermittent misfiring and multiple condenser failures, in one instance needing RAC recovery. Replacing the coil, points and king lead failed to cure the problem and it was eventually found that the engine had been fitted with a 4-cyl rotor arm instead of the correct 6-cyl one and this was causing excess arcing which was destroying other ignition components. -
Poor idling Astra 94 1.8 16v ecotec 2 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Another note to consider is that when I pull off the plug that connects to the \'Idle control valve\' it makes no difference. As if there is no signal going to it in the first place leading me to believe that the new \'Idle control valve\' isnt doing anything yet. If anyone could shed some light on this I would be most grateful. Regards Carl -
Help Vectra V6 2.5 GLS Miss-fire 18 Sep 2003 (Forum)
My Vectra (1997 'P' GLS Saloon) has a misfire which is most noticeable at about 1200-1500 RPM and I think is also higher in the rev range too. This car has been to a tuning centre where It was diagnosed that the HT leads were breaking down, these have been replaced as were the plugs and it still has the same miss-fire. Taking advise from others I have just fitted a new Bosch DIS pack and the problem is still there. -
is my battery dead or something worse? 13 Sep 2003 (Forum)
Yesterday my car suddenly wouldn't start - I got a clicking noise, and all my electrics seemed "weak", i.e. the e/w were moving v. slowly, central locking was not always working. I got the car started with jump leads and drove for 30 minutes. Then as soon as I stopped, the electrics were dead again. While I was driving, the electrics were not 100%, e.g. opening the el. window made the headlights dim. Overnight, I borrowed a battery charger and attached it to the battery, but after half an hour or so, the charger reckoned the battery was fully charged, but still no joy with starting the engine. -
