  • Skoda Fabia - Skoda refuse warranty until the press get involved 22 Apr 2022 (Forum)
https://www.theguardian.com/money/2022/apr/20/skodas-refusal-to-honour-warranty-staggers-legal-experts I have had my fair share of warranty claims in the past and I have never come across this before - effectively, if the warranty is coming to the end of its life and you can't get the car in to the dealer on time (the dealer is fully booked) then tough - you're not covered.  I have had issues with cars in the weeks before the warranty expired and couldn't get the cars in before the warranty was up and never had an issue with a warranty claim - with dealers acknowledging the fault existed before the warranty expired.
  • 2014 Kuga Titanium X 1.6 Ecoboost 180 bhp - Ford unable to supply a new engine 29 Mar 2022 (Forum)
If an engine physically existed, I guess the order would not be cancelled. We have had no support from Ford at all apart from apologies.. No loan car. We are completely hung out to dry. We have lost three months VED so far, MOT and insurance cover. Car hire has cost a fortune plus the Kuga is on finance. Anyone else had the same problem with Ford?
  • honda frv - air con fault 3 months after purchase 28 Jul 2018 (Forum)

  • For Mondeo 2010 Titanium X - Water Ingress corroded the wiring loom 25 Nov 2014 (Forum)
I took out a Ford warranty when I bought it.  The car was taken to my local ford dealer - not where I bought it from and they said its water ingress into the wiring loom and it's corroded part of the loom that connects to the battery - anyhow its £384 to fix it....and it's not covered by their warranty as its external factors!
  • Zafira a DTI 2L - Oil Leak and smell of burning oil in car. 19 May 2014 (Forum)
Came with a warrenty.  full service history.  After a few weeks got a smell of burning oil in the car.  Took to a garage and told head was leaking oil but not blown. Went back to dealer, who has offered to replace the gasket through warrenty but wont cover any further problems found when they take the head off.
  • Skoda Yeti 2.0 tdi Elagance 170 bhp - Skoda Yeti Door Chipping and Bubbling 20 Jan 2014 (Forum)
The paint and cover strips are now peppered in chips and the paint is blistering. i'm absolutely fuming as I dont think a car of this age should be doing this. I've been told it's not happening with all the Yeti's. I'm still waiting to see if Skoda will rectify the problem again but not that hopeful as the car is out of warranty.
  • Toyota Hilux Vs Jaguar XK - Parked car accident. 10 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Hi, Need some specific advice I couldn't find in the threads... Bumped a car, swapped contact details, they thought it minor: cash not insurance deal but... Big quote: What now? (Details below)... I bumped a a parked car one week ago in a private car park, my fault (clearly).
  • Astra 1.7 LSTD, 1997 - Help - Sounds like a sewing machine! 23 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Had a new cambelt, tensioners and water pump approx 3-4K ago.  Took cam cover off at weekend and ran car but no sign of anything wrong there.  Also suspected alternator bearings, so disconnected fan belt, but noise still there. Its also not affected by dipping the clutch or whether in gear or neutral.
  • Having to take out dealer insurance to get taxed 15 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Hi, I am in the process of buying a used Mondeo from a franchised dealer (not a Ford Direct car). I will be collecting the car on Wednesday and do not yet have insurance. The dealership has told me that I will need to apply for 7 days free insurance via their scheme with Norwich Union, so that they can get the cover note in time to tax the car before Wednesday.
  • Mercedes Benz CLK W208 (1997 - 2002) - 01 200 Komp, possible O2 sensor problem? 27 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I have a 2001 CLK 200 Komp with 69,000 miles so far, that I bought secondhand two years ago. Within a couple of weeks after buying it the engine warning light came on although the car seemed to drive OK. O2 sensor was diagnosed by MB garage, but the car had only had a new one fitted six months previously so another one was installed under warranty. 18 months later after only having covered 8,000 miles since the new sensor I went to start the car the other day.
  • Buying a new car is nightmare 24 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Not being a Ford man what are the 1.4 engines like for reliability in fact what is the whole car like to own -- We only cover about 7k miles a year so diesel really doesn't make economic sense unless I could get one for same price - I asked and salesman said no diesels left -- As a cash buyer with no partX would I be able to bargain on price that is asked - I know it can't hurt to ask but realistically would a main Ford dealer move on sticker price. - if I wait till next weekend would the salesmen be jumping.
  • Cars impractical for small people too 15 Aug 2008 (Forum)
She reckons she gains 2-3 inches in legroom by going auto and it allows her to sit more comfortably too. Seems like cars are designed for a narrow band of people heightwise.
  • Volvo - BBC Watchdog Wins - Volvo Recall Diesels for fire 22 Nov 2007 (Forum)
BBC Watchdog covered Volvos 2/3 years back and there was a denial of the problem at that time from Volvo UK Volvo Cars said Thursday it was recalling a total of 56,000 vehicles because of two separate problems. Volvo Cars spokeswoman Maria Bohlin said 38,000 diesel cars of the S60, V 70 XC 70 and XC 90 models made in 2006 were being called back in Europe due to a material fault that could cause the motor catching fire.
  • Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - Bizarre breakdown ... and cheap fix 19 Oct 2007 (Forum)
Explain story. He grins, climbs into car, gets out owners manual and flips to fusebox. Turns out fuse #20 is a 20A fuse, which bizarrely covers the ciggie lighter AND the reverse light. Replace fuse, problem solved! Wonder what would happen if the reverse light bulbs blew?
  • Insurance write off (CAT c) re-build 13 May 2007 (Forum)
I feel a bit of a plonker, never had a road accident in 18 years!. it seems these cars have a tendency to loose grip in the wet, even HJ says so, but still, I am rather upset at the loss of a lovely car. Anyway, it was a very fine example of this car, and has been declared a Cat C write off.
  • Are short journeys really bad for cars? 31 Dec 2003 (Forum)
Despite being a small island and never getting out of 2nd gear for most of their lives these cars have covered astronomical mileages. Everyone we went in had done over 200,000km, a couple had done over 700,000, but the record went to the oldest we went in which was showing over 300,000km for the second time.
  • hire car damages 3 Aug 2010 (Forum)
Anyway, the car went off hire and she collected her new car. 4 weeks after this she decided to leave. Her employer deducted over £500 from her final salary to pay for 'damage and valeting' of the hire car. The damage was unspecified.
  • Carbon quotas - road and air travel 6 Sep 2006 (Forum)
How about a family trip to the US, two parents and three kids would cover a combined total of around 40,000 miles, would they have to buy a carbon quota to cover this? One assumes so, perhaps not a bad thing beacuse it drives home the cost and effect of energy use. Is paying for a carbon quota fairer than fuel tax, variable RFL and BiK etc?
  • Ford KA, KA2, KA3 (1996 - 2008) - rust around the rear wiper blade 7 Feb 2009 (Forum)
Can anyone recommend what I should do now? Is there a good filler material on the market which can make a good job of covering the rust hole and preventing further damage? Is it worth me giving it a go myself? I was thinking that a larger diameter rubber sheath may be an option, to cover the affected area. Cheating, I know, but atleast I wouldn't have to be reminded of the rust problem every time I walk up to the car.
  • What happens if someone passes away? (insurance) 3 Feb 2022 (Forum)
The other option is to drive the car off road somewhere else, but can the Son drive it to do this? If insurance is not renewed. Then it will need to SORN and it is a pain for test driving a car.... As have to insure and re-tax.  Son undecided to keep the car, may be as a spare run about.
