  • Toot Toot !! 16 Jul 2017 (Forum)
I never was able to afford a car so expensive, let alone one with so oversize an engine.   Do the BRs think that the young man was a victim of the s/s salesmen ?   There used to be one of those irritating notices in the back widscreen of old cars, "I know it's old, but it's paid for".
  • Petrol or diesel estate car advice? 12 Sep 2015 (Ask HJ)
I am toying with either a 4-5 year old diesel estate (Mondeo/Passat-size) and using it mainly for the long distance journeys for economy, or to go for...
  • Cracked tyres - are they dangerous? 16 Apr 2014 (Ask HJ)
I have a 10 month old Kia Sorento fitted with Nexen N8000 tyres. The tyres have covered 8000 miles over the past year and still have 6-7mm of tread, but...
  • Panamera 4s Diesel - ‘New, old stock’ Panamera - Good Buy or Not? 24 Mar 2021 (Forum)
Dealer has bought in a few of these cars, now on a Uk ‘69 plate and with delivery mileage only. Cars are effectively new, although actually 3 years old and a model no longer produced. On the face of it it’s an opportunity to buy a top spec car at a massive discount, but I’m also conscious that it’s difficult to understand what the actual value of the car is - compared with a normal used car, with very low mileage.
  • Audi A5 and S5 (2007 - ) - 2008 3.0 Insurance Rights? 8 Oct 2008 (Forum)
Surely, regardless of how good the repairs are the value of the car will now be depreciated somewhat more due to the accident and repairs, and I also know that the car is a crash repair job!?! To put it another way, which car has the higher value? A 4 month old immaculate car that has not been involved in any collision, or a seemingly immaculate 4 month old car that has had structural repairs and every panel on its nearside replaced and painted etc?

  • Mid Large Family Car 17 May 2022 (Forum)
Hi all I'm looking at getting a used car, up to five years old, 60k miles, £25k.  I need a decent size boot and genuine comfort for four.  I prefer an old fashioned interior (think cream leather and wood) rather than all the high tech gizmos and shiny bits.

  • Ford Focus Estate - tyre age/general degradation 4 Jul 2013 (Forum)
really-a bit of a general discussion re:tyre degradation Recently inherited a low mileage but 13 year old car-done 45000 miles, and on original rear tyres ,which are very legal still. got a slow puncture, but tyre company would not repair-and only replace with new-on the basis that 'no car should run with a tyre over ten years old as the inner wall will have worn and could be dangerous.

  • 2003 Renault Scenic (old shape) - Car Pulling to Left Under Braking 3 Oct 2011 (Forum)
The car continues on dead straight when not braking, so tracking etc seems OK. The only issue I've been able to see is the right front wheel has about an inch and a half less clearance between the wheel arch and the tyre than the left.
  • skoda cars - oil consumption 31 Oct 2013 (Forum)
Hi. Both my wifes car(1.2tsi Fabia), 35000miles, just under 3yrs old, and mine(1.8tsi Octavia, 8000miles,2yrs old, have both started using a fair bit of oil. I bought my car having been impressed with the smooth good performing engine of the 105bhp Fabia, so am rather concerned at the oil consumption, especially as iv'e only had mine for 3months.

  • Humourous car ad 10 Jan 2008 (Forum)
DES MOINES, Iowa - Jane Hambleton has dubbed herself the "meanest mom on the planet." After finding alcohol in her son's car, she decided to sell the car and share her 19-year-old's misdeed with everyone ? by placing an ad in the local newspaper. ADVERTISEMENT The ad reads: "OLDS 1999 Intrigue. Totally uncool parents who obviously don't love teenage son, selling his car.

  • Towball to tow hitch 20 May 2005 (Forum)
Advice needed please. I have recently fitted a towbar to my car so that I can pull my caravan and on stock car days a car transporter trailer. I have just bought an old trailer this week which rattled badly when towed. I put this rattle down to the fact that the trailer is well balanced and offers no loading on the car when empty.

  • VW Polo 2018 1.0 TSI 95 - Extended service intervals 6 Apr 2019 (Forum)
Is there any evidence for or against long life service intervals ie 20,000 miles for a modern petrol engine such as the one in my Polo? My understanding is they were created to satisfy fleet owners, many of which flog cars when two years old, and others have high annual mileage. These people probably don’t keep a car beyond 100,000 miles or six years, possibly less. Car manufacturers probably do not care once the car is six years old, their legal obligations are by then discharged.
