  • Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1996 1.3 Best method of changing air filter? 2 Nov 2008 (Forum)
This might sound like a daft question but I changed the air filter on my dad's car a few weeks back (same engine 1.3). i found it quite hard as the top of the cover did not lift off, I had to slide the old out and slide a new one in, it took me a good 15 minutes (compared to about 30 seconds it took me to this my MK3 Fiesta and my dads old Ladas).
  • 2001 Ford Mondeo Duratec 2.0 Di EGR? 6 Apr 2007 (Forum)
Dear all, Have a 2001 ford mondeo 2.0 diesel covered some serious miles in it as its a taxi 186,000!!!! Had a problem about 5 months ago were the car was running fine at start up and after a few miles it would start spluttering if it was rev'd hard it would chuck white/blue smoke out of the back.
  • ECU problem - Hyundai Accent 1.3i 5 Mar 2006 (Forum)
and how much do you think it would cost to repair- he was quoting me £648 parts and £40 (1 hour) labour. The car is probably only worth £1,000 - so this would hardly be worth it. Are there on-going driving issues ? Have I just been very unlucky with my car as it was only covered by a 3 year warranty.
  • VAG 130ps diesel engine lifetimes 15 Oct 2003 (Forum)
I am in the process of selecting a replacement car for a rover 214i.. a pushbike being a good suggestion by a friend! Seriously though, I am covering around 25000 mile each year, and am not prepared to take a hit on the depreciation on a new car that this mileage will inevitably bring!
  • New XType Diesel Has Broken Down 29 Sep 2003 (Forum)
What astounds me is why Jaguar are using a Ford Engine/ICU combination that is know to have the above problems !!! The car is with the dealer awaiting a repair and probably a new ICU PS the Diesel, when running, is a lot quicker than the 2.5 V6 XType loan car I have been given.
  • VW Passat Cam Belt Tensioner 23 Jul 2003 (Forum)
Recently bought a W reg 1.9 TDI 115 bhp with 75000 miles on the clock. Due to a horror story with a car a nearly bought breaking its cam belt on the day of collection (covered in earlier post) I had the new dealer agree to a cam belt change. I have since had some very bad dealings with the dealer that I finally purchased my car from.
  • omega problems? I'm not sure! 12 May 2003 (Forum)
Does anyone have an OMEGA 2.5 TURBO DIESEL AUTOMATIC and if so can you tell me if the problem Im having occurs with your car, the reason I ask is one person tells me its right, and another tells me its wrong... Ahhhhhhhhhh ! THE PROBLEM - when driving at all various speeds the car handles a treat until you take your foot off of the accelerator, then the rev counter immediatley drops back down to idle speed (around 700 rpm) and there appears to be no engine braking at all, Down hills especially with foot covering brake pedal it feels like car is in "n" position and coasting.
  • '96 BMW 728i M52 Engine - Advice?!! 27 Aug 2002 (Forum)
I'm just about to buy an April 1996 728i with (I guess) the Nikasil M52 engine. The car has covered just 62,000 miles with fbmwsh. I don't believe the car has had the cylinder block replaced. I'm getting a full RAC inspection done prior to purchase - should this pick up problems re: bore wear (eg in a compression test?)
  • Audi A3 2.0 tdi (2005) - Recent cambelt change fail - who pays? 6 Jul 2018 (Forum)
For peice of mind I asked for and payed extra to have a new cambelt done and full service carried out. I was very pleased until two weeks ago I was driving home from work and the car stopped. All the symptoms were that the cambelt had gone. My local garage did a quick check and confirmed that the cambelt was loose and had slipped. I rang the original dealer who sold me the car, who in turn asked me to ring the garage he'd had do the work.
  • Toyota Yaris - Problems with Yaris bought recently from dealer 24 Feb 2017 (Forum)
They said that the DPF needs regeneration and initially, they were going to charge me £101 as they said it should be covered under toyota warranty. Then they called back an hour later and said that they called toyota and toyota would NOT cover it under the warranty. They said, normally they would charge £475 but if I get it done today by them, it would cost me just £310.
  • Finally got Her back behind the wheel! 10 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Apparently an old chap tapped on the window and asked her if she was OK. This was some 3 years ago. The thing is she didn't mind driving the previous car, a Fiat Regata, the car that most people wouldn't be seen dead in! The problem is that all the driving was down to me. With my starting up a business and working on our house, my time was precious enough without having to be the only family taxi as well.
  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace 2013 - Isofix Seats 14 May 2023 (Forum)
Off up to the Western Isles in three weeks with Daughter/Husband and 18mo grandson. We're both taking and travelling to the ferry in our own cars. Their Octavia Estate and one of ours either Berlingo, as above, or my Fabia Estate. A second car seat, Joie i-spin 360, will be carried so that we can do things together or leave one car at either end of a walk etc.
  • Lanzarote hire car 29 Jul 2022 (Forum)
I have just returned from a holiday in (or should it be on?) Lanzarote. The hire car was a 1.5 diesel Toyota Proace City, which seems to be a Citroen Berlingo with a different front end and a different steering wheel horn cover.  I have to say I hated it at first, especially in its grayish beige colour.

  • Seat Altea XL - Broken when bought 6 Jul 2015 (Forum)
i´m really p***ed off because this is not the first thing that broke, i had to bring the car to them already 4 times for several things but this one is way to expensive now and i also should have an 6 month insurance which they claim does not cover this issue? my question is, is there anything i can do to make them pay for the whole repair?
  • 2003 S Type 2.5 petrol - Occasional water loss 13 Apr 2015 (Forum)
I have had it pressure tested and there are no issues there. I am now thinking that the water pump may be worn and require replacement. The car has covered 100,000 miles . I can drive 100 miles in one hit without issue then the light may come on as I get into urban areas. The car is fine for quite a while then the low coolant light comes on, stop the car for a while, maybe 10 minutes or even half an hour and the water level has returned to normal and the light has gone out.
  • BMW 3 Series Touring (99-05) - Car for High Mileage Commuting 9 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Over the last few weeks I've been trying to find myself a good used car that will fit the bill for my 600mile/week commute (mostly motorway cruising). The primary requirements are- Good on fuel economy (I hope for +50mpg on a 70mph motorway cruise) Likely to be reliable covering high mileage General Running costs should be affordable   BMW hasn't actually been on my list to look at.
  • Toyota Prius - Mot Dealer failing headlights 27 Aug 2011 (Forum)
A tip for anyone taking their car in for an mot, should your car have plastic covers as most do these days then over time they may become discoloured due to the plastic oxidising effects of sun weather etc. This was the case when my wife took her Toyota Prius in to her local dealership in Bedford for its annual check up and service, it failed the MOT as the lights were not making the correct pattern on their testing equipment, of course the dealer wanted to fit new headlights at considerable cost, fortunately my wife didn't agree and brought the car home where upon I promptly got some t-cut and spent a few minutes applying with a cloth and a quck buff and they are as good as new again.
  • ford focus estate,diesel, 1.8litre, 1999 - Engine will not start 15 Jan 2011 (Forum)
Have checked all fuses, but don't know about relays. Some say there are 2 pumps on this car, electric and mechanicxal, some say it's on the injector pump. Before I decided not to use the car I covered the engine with an old coat, I thought I might have dislodged a wire, but have looked fairly thoroughly and seems all in tact, can you help please?
