  Condition of the car is SPOTLESS - hes kept it in excellent condition. Recently had inspection 2 with BMW and MOT - cost over £1000! Tyres - all have excellent tred (michelin Pilot Sport tyres) Any other info that is needed, just post me a message. I appreciate your help! Chris

  Hi! I am fortunate to be able to buy a new car tax free and, for BMWs only, at a significant further discount. I cannot afford to keep one of these for good, but as, at the moment, the resale price on an X5 is so high, one can buy one of these taxfree, drive it for a year, and then sell it in the UK (they are all UK spec and delivered, before export) at a small profit, expenses included.

  Also, perversely, if it wasn't for the potential fault being noticed earlier (I'd never have known, it took a BMW specialist), then the chain would just have gone one day and would surely count as a sudden failure, exact same circumstances, but a different definition in the eyes of the warranty company. All of which leaves me a bit at a loss.

  I will not go into a lot of detail at this stage. My car is a 1994 BMW 545i with 20" Snitchers and has done a mere 13000 miles. It is now out of warranty. All service is by a BMW main dealer 1. Last year I had a very annoying clicking on turning the steering wheel. This turned out to be a known fault with a service bulletin to match.

  Hi,   First up, apols if similar has been posted elsewhere. 1998 BMW E39 535i (silver). Was originally father-in-law's car and so 1 owner since new, 100K miles only. Had been stored for 2 years but 2 months ago I replaced the battery, got an oil change/engine flush, brakes serviced and put her through the MOT.

  I recieved my brand new BMW on Thursday evening, on the way home, I noticed the the speed dial wouldnt move passed 29mph, even though I was driving faster. I called up the dealer, who told me to test it again in all the modes, which I did, and noticed I was doing 40mph and the dial would show 20mph.

  Anyway they had the car for 3 days and in that time they fitted the seals to it-which they then said would only last around 6 months as they didn't fit correctly, so the dealer asked for them to fit correct seals. They ordered the seals from BMW, and they fitted them, and then again, they said they weren't correct. They called BMW and they sent a BMW specialist(apparently) and he said the gearbox is BMW and not Rover-which is seen in most Mini Coopers.

  Any general thoughts on the reliability of this engine (2013 version). Any specific issues that make it an unwise choice? Is the BMW 1.6 diesel in the 2014-on Versos significantly better?

  I had an oil change recently on my BMW diesel,I used Mobil 1 semi synthetic as per past thread recommendations the oil went black quite quickly.Is this usual?
