  • Bumpy roads 27 Nov 2006 (Forum)
Since retiring and moving house the bulk of my driving has changed from being on major roads to being on minor country roads. Does driving on bumpy roads significantly shorten the life of suspension and steering items? I currently do 10k/pa, mostly on the speed limit when out of town ~ well, I'm not going to admit on a public forum to breaking the law by speeding am I?
  • Ford Ka interior clock 22 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Today when i got in it after not been started for a week i noticed the clock was about an hour slow, then once when i used it during the week it gradually became slower by a about 10 minutes. Can anybody explain why this is? -- Its not what you drive, its how you drive it! :-)
  • Ipods 31 Jul 2006 (Forum)
I have seen several drivers wearing Ipods, white in ear phones both ears whilst driving. They appear to not even be able to hear other drivers stood on their horns. Is it legal to wear earphones whilst driving. In my rally days if we were stopped on a road stage we quitly took off our ear defenders as at that time they were not road legal I think.

Does anyone know any other places that spell their vehicles wrong on the ad's? -- Its not what you drive, its how you drive it! :-)
  • new civic!! 7 Dec 2005 (Forum)
just been laughing at the test drive of the new civic. his mate cant get comfortable and doesnt want to drive after the first car. because of the a pillars the passenger has a better view.you need oversized wing mirrors for parking(suppose this is because you cant see nowt out the back window. and the 1.8 is the least favourable of the engines, when honda are expecting it to be the most popular?

  • Turbos-Failure Causes 26 Oct 2005 (Forum)
I was wondering what the most common causes of premature turbo failure were. I've been driving petrol and diesel turbos for years now and have never had a problem. But is there any particular driving trait that can cause them to fail ? In the old days of cars like Escort RS Turbos 50,000 miles was seen as good life for a turbo, so what has been done to increase their longevity I wonder ?
  • Astra Club 1.6 auto 2001 26 Jun 2005 (Forum)
My car has suddenly taken to cutting out while I'm driving. The only things I've noticed are that the temperature gets just above halfway (which it hadn't done before) and the fan doesn't cut in, and that it's usually in an area where I'm doing 40mph. The fan does cut in when the car is stationary, but not while I'm driving.
  • The law works sometimes! 18 Jun 2005 (Forum)
I spotted this item in the local paper. Stopped by police and subsequently a spell in jail for driving while disqualifed. http://www.thisisbath.co.uk/displayNode.jsp?nodeId=163311&command=displayContent&sourceNode=163059&home=yes&contentPK=12654070&localNewsNodeId=163041 A story to counter the doom and gloom merchants who claim that people who get caught driving while disqualified don't get dealt with adequately.
  • Yet Another Question 11 Jun 2005 (Forum)
Question is - is he allowed to be the accompanying qualified driver if he not insured to drive the car himself? Thanks
  • Suggested poll topic 2 Jun 2005 (Forum)
How many of us listen to Johnny Walker on radio 2 on our drives home? I do, and particularly enjoy his "cruising" feature (3 great driving tracks chosen by a listener, and played after the 6 o' clock news.) I know JW reads HJ's column in the Telegraph. If we could come up with a backroom cruising, I bet he would play it.
  • Snow? Humbug! 24 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Despite the scarborough warnings from various weathermen I got up at 6 am to drive from Leeds to Newcastle in the snow. Except there wasn't much snow. Took 2.5 hours to drive 115 miles. Coming home at 1230 even quicker. No problem with snow, more spray than anything else. Temperature went up the further north I went.
  • 4WD On/Off 10 Feb 2005 (Forum)
i am considering a 4Wheel drive diesel I have looked at the Freelander, suzuki grand vitara and toyota rav4 I like the toyota best however it has fixed 4wd whereas the suzuki can run on 2wd I do not intend to use it as an off roader but I like the higher driving and where I lve the 4wd is handy in the winter.
  • Mobile Phones & Xmas Lights 9 Dec 2004 (Forum)
Which do you think has caused most accidents on the road. 1.People talking on their mobiles whilst driving? or 2.People gawping at an excessive display of xmas lights on the front of a house? I mean....you can't help yourself looking at the awfulness of it can you? Try it, try driving past one without gawping.
  • Parallel Routes for relaxed driving 8 Nov 2004 (Forum)
Partly inspired by the mention of a new TV program involving old routes between places, I was wondering if people know (and would be prepared to share!)...
  • Another whose fault... 25 Oct 2004 (Forum)
A road leads onto the car park. There are no giveway markings. I think Car A (on the road into the car park) was driving too fast. The accident was basically side of Car A driving into side of Car B (Which was already in the car park). so, whose fault?
  • "Clutch slippage" on autoboxes Cavalier 17 Jul 2004 (Forum)
I've got 4 Cavalier #3 autos. On two of them (60k miles), if you change up manully (as per advanced driving), there is a "slipping clutch"-type effect and sometimes delay in power take-up. There's no problem if left in Drive mode, or changing down. The other two were always fine. There's plenty of fluid in the boxes, and it's recently been changed.
  • How is my driving? 30 Mar 2004 (Forum)
I had an evil thought today, following a van with that question on the back, with an 0800 number to 'phone. How about setting up an 0906 number (£1.50...
  • Towing and Insurance 8 Mar 2004 (Forum)
When being towed, is the MG covered under the insurance of the towing car, as it is ‘attached’? My girlfriend will be piloting the MG, and she isn’t insured to drive it. I’m just concerned that she will be driving uninsured, even though I’m in control of most of her movements, so to speak. Cheers. DB

Not sure how it works but it all sounds a bit scary and I wouldn't like to be driving Polo through there the day it goes wrong!
