  • Ford Fiesta (2000 - 2002) - What to look out for when selling a car (scams?) 15 Oct 2009 (Forum)
If you look around online you'll find a lot of guides for what to look out for when buying a second-hand car, but very little if you're looking to sell one. This is my first time selling a car and I'm not sure what I should be wary of. I had a phone call just this morning from someone who wanted to see the car, but after giving him my address didn't specify a time when he'd be visiting.
  • confirmation Please! 7 Dec 2006 (Forum)
The first couple of times I needed it, as I hadn?t cancelled my fully comp insurance, I borrowed a friends car (third party cover), the second two times I managed with public transport,(was time consuming, more leg work! bah! humbug etc). however, my insurance has now expired, so assume my borrowing of friends car is now not an option?
  • More electric gizmos 19 Mar 2002 (Forum)
Adding to the new safety features, Ford has produced a headlamp surround with a 'deformable' housing that pushes the lamp into the body of the car in a crash, so that the lens cover does not break and cut pedestrians' legs. The devices were researched and designed by British, German and American engineers at Ford's research centre in Aachen, Germany.
  • What could this knocking sound be? 15 Jun 2021 (Forum)
I picked up a car a month back. It is a 66 plate Polo GTI and has covered 42k miles. It has been upgraded and lowered with Bilsteins by the previous owner. At first, I don't think this was happening, but over the last week, I have noticed a knocking sound which I think may be coming from the front.
  • Peugeot 308 1.2 Puretech - Peugeot 308 Engine Fault 10 Dec 2020 (Forum)
I will confirm this on Monday but if this is the case, there will unfortunately be a further charge for the stripping of this which could be in excess of £500.'' Ive got extended warranty, will this not be  covered? Could this be the result of clogging valves again Please advise  Many thanks
  • Removing tinted window glue.Solved. 22 Oct 2018 (Forum)
My rear tinted window had started to show its age after 5 years and was bubbling and coming away.I decided to remove it.It came off quite easily but the whole rear glass was covered in the glue that tinting used.I tried glass window cleaner but it didn't work.I didn't want to use a stanley knife blade as google had said as I didn't want to damage the rear demist elements. In the end I used Car Plan Demon wheels cleaner!.
  • Attempted add ons. - Tyre replacements. 21 Sep 2018 (Forum)

  • Renault Grand Scenic - water flooding into footwell 23 Jun 2016 (Forum)
Renault tell me that it is due to debris falling through the grills (there to stop this from happening!) and clogging the drainage. The overflow apparently leading directly into the interior of the car! Surely this is a manufacturing fault?? They say it now needs to be dismantled to be cleaned -NOT covered by guarantee - even though I had a service done 6 months ago. So not only do I have to pay for a manufacturing issue, but also for any potential water damage done to the vehicle - so that it can happen again in another 18 months presumably!
  • BMW 3 Series E46 - BMW Auto Trans Fluid Change or Not to Change 6 May 2016 (Forum)
I have a 2003, 320i (2.2) with the ZF 5 speed auto. It has only covered 29,000 miles (mostly long runs) - full BMW history. A bit of a time warp car. Most Indepedent specialists recommend changing out the transmission fluid (and the differential) - due to the age.
  • Accident Waiver and Release of Liability 5 Oct 2015 (Forum)
Does any one have any experience or advice using Accident Waiver and Release of Liability forms? There were two adults and a minor in their car. Luckly no one hurt. Would they both have to sign and also sign as parent of minor? And how to stipulate what is being paid for. Just want to make sure everything is covered for repairs and personal safety and worded correctly so not to be worried about any future claims.
  • VW Golf 1.4 TSI 2010 - Piston Block Damage 30 May 2014 (Forum)
My car has covered 36k from new. I had a misfire on Cylinder 1 which was first diagnosed as a coil pack. When this was changed it did not fix it so a compression test revealed there was a deeper problem. With the head off the piston had a piece missing from the top which looked like it had melted.
  • Shuttle 2.3LS - Honda 17 May 2014 (Forum)
It's always sailed straight through the MOT, no advisories.  So just one question -  Would you rely on a car of this age to safely carry wife and kids about?? THanks, Ben
  • pug 406 - new tyres 17 Apr 2014 (Forum)
now surly the tyres should be covered under the sales of goods act,and being faulty should be replaced by the dealer and i shouldnt have to worry about who pays for the faulty ones,is it me or what has happened to the cosumer rights?
  • Ford Focus - Roof bar Fixing points - risk of corrosion? 23 Dec 2013 (Forum)
They were all mangled and jammed in so I had to drill them out. My concern is that the roof bar fixing covers do not provide a 'seal' with the car body so the bare bolt and the gulley are exposed. What would you advise I do to protect this to prevent the recess filling with water? Also, the bars will be used intermittently.
  • ANPR for fuel 13 Aug 2013 (Forum)
Parking at Gatwicks long stay car park last week I noticed the use of ANPR at the entrance barrier. Could the petrol companies not try this tech to stop fraud. You would register your reg numbers and payment card with a central database that covers ALL companies issuing fuel.

  • Ford Mondeo - 1999 Mondeo estate mk ii sudden starter failure 8 Jan 2013 (Forum)
MoT coming up and it doesn't owe us anything, but it has always driven beautifully and started first time. just put in £30 of petrol....no homestart cover either so would have to pay for a tow. Haynes manual and online searches not much help. Any ideas most welcome, if only to avoid the difficulty of trying to buy a replacement without a useable car.
  • Citroen Saxo VTS - Saxo - Engine Noise - like loudest tappets ever! 23 Jan 2012 (Forum)
Hi.  I've had the crankshaft pulley fail on this, taking out the lower timing cover in the process.  Now I've replaced the pulley, etc but on starting the car there's a very loud noise, much like extremely loud tappets - but too loud for tappets I think - especially as it wasn't making this noise before the pulley failed.
