All - I've started so I'll stop 20 Mar 2012 (Forum)
Other methods use a primed cylinder to recieve a squirt of fuel and spark and it is enough to fling the motor over and then start and continue running - I think Mazda have this system. Or so I have read. Please feel free to add to my knowledge. Plainly a system that does not encourage extra wear on components is the better option but of course with that comes more complexity. -
Passat CC or Audi A4 ? 25 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I have a choice from a fixed list, and have discounted already the Ford Mondeo 1.8 TDCI ( underpowered & ubiquitous) Saab 1.9 TDI 120 Linear - Old and unattractive, Mazda 6 - Unbeleiveably plasticky and tinny, like a 1980's Datsun Cherry with its corduroy seats. and Amstrad HI FI Dashboard. How they manage to sell any of these I can not imagine. Also Honda Accord EX GT - not enough Legroom. -
Toyota Yaris II/Vitz (2006 - ) - Knife edge decision: Yaris vs. i20 20 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I'm after a cheap but decent new/nearly super-mini for around-town driving and occasional longer motorway trips; anticipating a yearly mileage of around 7k. I'm coming from a '99 Mazda MX-5 which while very fun to drive is becoming increasingly impractical, expensive and has depreciated faster than I've been paying it off. I'm hoping to strike a balance between value, practicality and just enough 'oomph'. -
Route advice please - Calais to Lot-et- Garonne 24 Apr 2009 (Forum)
s usually quite straightforward. However the tolls are creeping up along with the cost of fuel (petrol Mazda 6 2.0) and hotels.. I?ve often thought of heading out of Calais on the A16 past Boulogne then onto the free A28 to Rouen. Then on the RN to Evreux, Dreux, and overnight at Charters (there?s a nice Ibis for 39Eu) then picking up the A10 and A71 around Orleans. -

More Auction advice please 21 Mar 2007 (Forum)
I had some good advice from the BR with regard to selling my 170K mileage BMW with the consensus that it would be best sold on Autotrader rather than my thoughts of sending the car to auction. BUT !! The new car - Mazda 6 2.0TS -arrives next week, I don?t have room to store an extra car, and my wife is very nervous about possible low life types turning up when I?m not there or returning after a viewing with mates to relook/steal car/burgle etc??????.. -
MOT - Helpful fast fit 4 Dec 2006 (Forum)
Since they've been the subject of quite a bit of adverse comment here in the past I thought I'd relate our most recent experience of a leading fast fit... -
DC if you like, just me and my new car 15 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Along with that and discount for cash I shall be driving away next week in a nice new Philippines built Ford Lynx 1.3 (Mazda-derived engine) fuel-injected with M/T, silver-gold metallic, proper full size car and the normal goodies for about GBP6,300 in recently appreciated Pounds against the Peso from the Growler Inc offshore slush fund my accountant doesn't know about and my ex-wife only suspects exists but can't prove. -
The car you drive.. 21 Oct 2006 (Forum)
You're a closet colonial racist and have fantasies about the Queen. If you have a Freelander, it was probably a break-up gift from your ex. Mazda A Ford driver with less money. Mostly staid boring with no image and less imagination. Lots of retired people drive Mazdas. You're in the way and should get off the road. Mercedes-Benz Responsible, immaculate and conservative. -
Toyota Yaris - Replacement car for daughter 25 Aug 2025 (Forum)
I am rather surprised at the high price of another used Yaris, an obvious choice. Possible alternative vehicles could include Mazda 2, Hyundai i20, Ford Fiesta and Ka+, Suzuki Swift, Kia Rio and maybe Ceed. Not on the list would be anything with DSG, powershift, pure-tech, 1.0 ecoboost. A preference for Japanese/Korean and as young as possible, and to avoid small city type cars. -
List prices 19 Sep 2020 (Forum)
Yesterday I (begrudgingly) agreed to go car shopping and with arm twisted we’ll up my back I bypassed the Honda and Mazda dealers and proceeded direct to the local Volvo dealer so that swmbo could test drive a nice £25,000 68 plate XC60 they had sat on the lineup. Sadly it was sold when we arrived but the keen salesman in me was almost annoyed at the polite but possibly overly relaxed efforts of their man when he simply said that he’d call if something else came in instead of doing as I would do and trying to push something else onto the agenda. -
Find My Daughter an Auto - part 2 12 Jan 2020 (Forum)
Suzuki SX4 - Torque Converter (T/C) - although tax is quite high at £280 on the autos Suzuki Swift - T/C from what I can find Kia Rio / i20 - T/C Yaris CVT / Verso CVT - not MMT version Mazda 2 - T/C Maybe a Meriva / Astra but not with the Easytronic box -I believe if it isn't Easytronic it is T/C? A Fiesta / Focus / Fusion pre Powershift when they used T/C boxes I think a Nissan Note had a T/C box before it got the self destruct CVT from around 2011? -
Which new car to buy? 2 Apr 2019 (Forum)
So far I have looked at and discarded; Ford ecosport (only 1.0 litre engine, subjectively looks too big) Peugeot 2008 (too cramped, couldn't get my legs comfortable) Suzuki Vitara (felt cramped with doors closed - also tried SX Cross but that was too big a car, only autos are higher spec and include privacy glass) Citroen C3 aircross - no auto box Mazda CX3 - felt cramped and very little room in the back Still in contention Hyundai ix20/Kia Venga - cons are seems like old technology/models and due to be discontinued in the next few weeks with no replacement as far as I can see. -
Diesel estates for motorway driving- 33k miles p/a 20 Aug 2018 (Forum)
Cars I've looked at thus far: Audi A4 Avant (Ultra models), Mercedez C class (bluetec/blueefficiency models), Mazda 6 Tourer, BMW 3 series Gran Turismo (not an Estate, butit caught my eye). If you were in my position, what would you do? I spend around 2 days a month in my car so I'd like somewhere a little more cosy to call home. -
Some help needed with car lease 18 May 2017 (Forum)
What I need is some honest advice on MPG, reliability and other motoring issues from people who have knowledge or more importantly first hand experience of the three cars I have chosen. The first two are A. Audi A3 Saloon 2.0 TDI B. Mazda 3 Fastback Sport-nav Skyactiv-D 2.2 The ‘wildcard’ choice is (and surpringly cheaper option of the three) BMW 330e sport trim. Now I would really appreciate honest advice, opinion and entertaining rants to help me decide. -
Survey - Which would you choose? 20 May 2015 (Forum)
Audi A7, Merc CLS, Maserati, Porsche Panamera, Aston Martin Rapide, Bently Silver Spur Type 2: An A/B segment small hatchback, with the decent spec of a/c, DAB and sat nav. eg Honda Jazz, Hyundai i20, Fiesta, Ford B-Max, Clio, Mazda 2, etc. Seems like a no-brainer doesnt it. Choose Type 1, and hang the fuel and insurance costs, because all the other costs will be paid for. However, here's the twist... If you choose Type 2, you get a convenient, and free, parking space wherever you go. -
Which one. Subaru Legacy, Skoda Superb, or Signum? 23 Dec 2009 (Forum)
I think it will do little more than 5,000 miles a year. I want something a little bit more individual. Our Mazda 323 was mainstream but relatively rare as was the Saab (when I first bought it). Therefore no Ford Mundaneo's. The three cars I am looking at are a Subaru Legacy (2.0), Skoda Suberb (1.8T) and Vauxhall Signum (2.2 Direct petrol). -
Hire car companies and damage to vehicles 1 Jul 2008 (Forum)
A colleague and I hired a car to take us to Heathrow Airport last week. Received a rather jaded Mazda 5, with 18,000 miles on the clock and plenty of scuffs, dents and chips to show for them. I looked the car over and checked the damage sheet supplied by the company, and all seemed to be in order. -
Second car choice - made complicated! 6 Apr 2004 (Forum)
From the list of approved cars - http://www.britax.co.uk/isofix/isofix_vcg_2.htm - I have identified the following as possibilities (the Bentley Continental being just outside the budget) based largely on my own prejudices (I don't want another Octavia for example) and spending time on here : Nissan Almera or Primera Seat Leon, another Ibiza (we wouldn't be getting rid of it if we'd bought a 5 door to start with), Cordoba Vario (few and far between). Mazda 323 Can anyone see anything else from the Britax list which might meet the critera ? 1. I don't want to have to use the additional tether that is required with some cars (we'd only end up losing it) 2.
