  • Comfortable Ride? 30 Mar 2006 (Forum)
This has been nagging me for ages, but especially since I bought my old Volvo S80 (recently sold) and James May wrote about it in last weeks DTelegraph motoring section. For years car have been improving is all areas except one - ride quality. Cars now have much wider and lower profile tyres and stiffer suspensions - for what?
  • Away to Europe- in what? 24 Aug 2005 (Forum)
Should we take it (with AA Euro breakdown) and hope it doesn't break, or should be look at buying another car (which may or may not also break) with an eye to selling it when we return? Hire looks pricy, given that we'd want aircon and a bit of room. The Polish travel websites also have fairly dire warnings about car crime - are they more likely to be interested in a new hire car than an old Jag (assuming nothing on show in either car?)
  • Sporty Coupe 21 Jan 2002 (Forum)
A cruise through the car-by-car breakdown and some other car sites has suggested a Puma, a Tigra or a Hyundai Coupe, to a budget of £10K. Showed Madame a picture of a Xsara coupe and got that stare again, so it won't be a Citroen.
  • Vauxhall Astra 1.4 - Rejection of 2 year old Astra 1.4 4 Jun 2013 (Forum)
Purchased a 2 year old Astra from a franchise dealer in Warrington. Had problems with indicators which I tool to a local dealer to fix but also had a problem with spluttering/misfiring after the car warmed up after approx 25 - 30 mins, this also resulted in the engine warning light flashing as well.
  • Repairing cars in this recession. 5 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I've started this as i took another thread slightly off topic, i know thats unusual here..;) Ifithelps and i had started a little discussion on the possibility of old fashioned repair not replace methods coming back very soon as this recession worsens. [[ But all we hear at the moment is "it's ten years old and not worth spending 50p on". ]] I wonder if we might be glad to buy that 15 year old carina soon, older fashioned but basically sound design. [[ Part of the reason is I'm sure parts are now much more expensive in relation to cars. ]] But are parts really more expensive now, or have we got lazy or is that so many parts are no longer 'user serviceable' like washing machines, can we even obtain those parts now?
  • Bought a Celerio 31 Aug 2019 (Forum)
The saving on a 6 month old car was £450, we left. Found there was a Suzuki dealer in Huddersfield and phoned up and they seemed fine. Could have a new one at about £8500 in metallic (after £1000 manufacturer saving) or an 7 month old pre reg for £6995 in metallic.

  • Last Car 8 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Because of his age spares will also be difficult to come by. He was wondering if he would be better off buying say a 1 year old average car (Ford, Vauxhall etc) and keeping it 5 years then repeating the exercise again or buying a "quality" car (BMW,Audi etc) and keeping it the full 10 years.
  • Porsche 911targa & Sclass merc @ auction 27 Apr 2004 (Forum)
Hi there, A few years ago I purchased a car at Blackbushe and was very pleased, however this was a low cost car. I am now in the market to buy a Mercedes S class (about 3-4 years old) plus a fun car - later shape 911 convertable - that isn't as family friendly.
  • Upto 70% off UK new car list prices 26 Mar 2002 (Forum)
As we all know, you can buy most cars at three years old at up to 70% off new prices. Why then, apart from tax fiddles and company cars {one in the same},do 'employed' people on average earing with buy new? Imagine that you spend £15,000 on a car.
  • Replacing my Audi Convertible 13 May 2024 (Forum)
Looked at a C class coupe and E class convertible over the weekend. The sad thing is that 4 years ago I paid £3,600 for an 11 year old car with 100,00 miles now I am looking at £7,000 for a 12-14 year old car, also with 100,000 miles. Both cars had reasonable history but both were wearing budget tyres which was a bit of a red flag.

Hello all, I'm new here on the forum! I recently got my license and want to buy my first car soon. I am looking for something that is very cheap to buy (probably <£500 ) and to run. I don't really care about age or mileage (I like old stuff anyway), just for it to be a nice cheap starter with some character.

  • Hit by uninsured driver 7 Mar 2011 (Forum)
Hi, I was hit by an uninsured driver and my car was written off. The uninsured/unlicenced  party overtook on a bend, crashed into the car I was following, then spun into me. My car was extensively damaged, and also caught fire resulting in a total loss.
  • Hit & run - what is the likely outcome? 27 Mar 2009 (Forum)
He looked so scared I didn't have the heart to give him a good old rant, but thanked him for owning up - albiet a bit late. He did at one point hint that he may not actually be insured himself to drive that car..... what should I do? Tell my insurance company this little nugget?
  • C3 Opinions 8 Jul 2002 (Forum)
And it might just be enough to talk me out of the MINI Diesel when it comes to buying a knackered old car (to replace a knackered old car) in 6 years time. Lee http://communities.msn.com/honestjohn ...Takes corners beautifully
  • Classic Car Insurance - Major Hassle! 13 Feb 2005 (Forum)
Can anyone suggest a course of action with the following problem that I have. I currently own a number of cars, one of which is an old Mercedes insured on a 'classic car' policy (i.e. limited mileage, agreed value, doesn't accumulate any NCB). I have had the policy a number of years with the same specialist broker.
