  • Rover 416gsi 1993 - Driving a car thats been stood for a few years 1 Mar 2017 (Forum)
Hello folks,    I recently have been given a 1993 rover 416gsi from an old relative who has given up driving, and as i now need an automatic thought it might be worth a shot. The car has done 66,205 miles and has full service history and has been garaged all its life. The only thought i have had is the car has done barely 400 miles in the last three years and in the last 10 years has not even done 3000 miles.
  • 2016 Honda Jazz - Phone music plays when phone connected by blootooth 8 Feb 2017 (Forum)
When I connect my smartphone to the car via bluetooth, music on the phone starts playing automatically through the car audio suystem as soon as it is connected. It usually plays the last music that I played on the phone. I have tried everything I can think of on the phone - shutting down the music app, emptying the queue etc.
  • BMW Mini - Steering ball - is it legal to use? 10 Sep 2016 (Forum)
She lost her husband about a year ago so has to drive sometimes to maintain a normal lifestyle - shopping etc. She has a BMW Mini automatic. I am aware that a steering assist ball could be fitted at about the 10 to 12 position on the wheel to allow her to steer with her left hand. Without going through some sort of disabled assessment would it be legal to fit and use a steering ball?
  • Ford Galaxy - An issue on a test drive 11 Apr 2016 (Forum)
Hello all Well i went to available car and found a 2010 ford galaxy 2.0 tdci zetec , 50k miles 3 owners £10k fair price for a galaxy , all was good till test drive, its an automatic and idling in park was good, we gave it some and sounded as normal etc, only from PARK to DRIVE then it started to judder, low revs and then cuts out. Tried a few times and same thing, once you start moving though it works fine, got plenty of power, smooth gear changing etc , until you slow at a junction, it starts to judder slightly but doesnt cut out, just seems to do it when you first pop it in Drive ..
  • Nissan Leaf Ford Modeo Lexus IS250 - 12k second hand commuter under 6k£ 20 Mar 2016 (Forum)
I'd get a Leaf just because I can charge it for free, so within 3 years it pays for itself. If the Leaf isn't OK I hesitate between a Mondeo 2.0TDCi and a Lexus IS250 automatic. What's your take? What kind of mileage I can reasonably find for 6k£? Primarily I want a very reliable car, running costs are secondary.   Cheers
  • Ford Fiesta - Stiff clutch pedal, recently bought 18 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Phone calls to repair desk suggest they are reluctant to do anything, and prefer her to swap to automatic model. My feeling is that Ford are (again, I have had a poor experience with Ford over my old Focus) trying to fob her off until warranty expires, and not complete their customer service obligations.
  • Toyota Yaris '14 reg - Unable to set TA volume 29 Aug 2015 (Forum)
I have to wind it up to have an acceptable level and then if a TA comes in, it's deafening. I've set the 'automatic sound levelizer' to off without any change of symptoms. I've spoken to my local dealer, but they seem clueless. How on earth can I demonstrate the problem unless one of the staff are prepared to hang around for a TA to occur?

  • VW GOLF or anyother model - What car to choose ? - very much confused 11 Sep 2014 (Forum)
John, We have been looking for a 3-5 year old  automatic car for past 3 weeks but not getting anywhere. We always owned old BMW's which never gave more than 19 mpg. What we need in new car? - Great comfort as BMW, all modern facilities, good MPG and great value for price.

  • Query: scooter/m'bike : quickest route to mobility 18 Jun 2014 (Forum)
In order to jump through the fewest hoops possible in order to get mobile, would the machine have to be less than 50cc?  Would it have to be automatic clutch?   And other such questions.   It’s not clear yet whether the lad will be having to commute 6 miles across a city, or 24 miles to another town, along a single-carriageway A-road.
  • what to buy! 2 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Sorry another what do I buy question from a newby.... I've got £3k to spend. I have to have an automatic as I've got nerve damage in my left leg and clutch control leaves me in agony. I would also prefer something with a bit of ground clearance as I live on a mountain up a badly maintained road with a lot of overhanging trees - my old Meganne acted like a snow plough sometimes.
  • Mitsubishi i - Surging and slowing when cold 4 May 2014 (Forum)
My automatic "i" has done 34,000 miles, it has a full Mitsubishi service history and I have reviewed it for HJ. It has just developed a disconcerting fault when driving from 'cold' and I would appreciate some advice before entrusting it to our local (not particularly good and expensive) dealer.
  • BMW 3 Series Coupe - Noisy Diesel Engine 20 May 2013 (Forum)
My BMW 3 Series Coupe 2.0Diesel Sport Automatic on a 57 Plate has full main agent BMW service History. It went in for a service and I was informed the engine was noisy. Thankfully the car has the BMW Exttended warranty, the car has covered 47,000 miles.
  • I love my S-Max but.... 29 Oct 2012 (Forum)
I love the car for the way it drives like a seven seat Ferrari, the comfort of the seats, the reliability, the huge range of options it came with which I would hate to be without now such as ventilated seats, Xenon headlights, cornering lights etc etc.  I get an average of 33.5mpg from my diesel automatic.  We still need an occasional seven seater in the family and I am considering a Prius+.  I reckon I will improve the economy by 15mpg at least, but that is no reason to change a car as I have advised many people in the BR previously.
  • Daewoo Korando - Jerky Auto Transmission 27 Sep 2012 (Forum)
Our ancient (2000) tow-car is a Korando with the Mercedes 2.3 4 cylinder and automatic (4 speed) box. Recently the box has become "hesitant" : put it into drive, give it revs and after a second or two it leaps forward. It can also creep backwards down a hill when in Drive. The car is used only to tow a horse trailer and hasn't even done that for a few months, so I don't want to spend a lot on it but equally don't want to scrap it.
  • Vauxhall Zafira - Central Locking Problems 16 Sep 2012 (Forum)
We have the version with keyless entry, so can lock the car either by pressing the front door handles or using the key fob, we cannot lock it manually with a key. To unlock the car you just pull one of the handles and it unlocks automatically. When locking and unlocking the car you can hear the lock making the right noise, but the door remains unlocked.
  • Inertia Reel Seat Belts 3 Apr 2010 (Forum)
He was taken to the London Motorshow in the early/mid 60's, I believe 1963, and I was told it was because he had designed an automatic seatbelt which Britax were launching at the show. I believe this to be the Inertia Reel Seatbelt. I believe the company he worked for sold his design to Britax.....and no he didn't get anything for it.
  • Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - 04 Feels like it's scraping the road when braking 7 Feb 2010 (Forum)
The reason I ask is I don't trust the garage 100% - they managed to crack the windscreen of my car during the service and only when I insisted that the crack wasn't there before did they go and ask the mechanics what had happened and it transpired that it probably happened when the car was coming down off the ramp.... they are paying for insurance excess, but their initial reluctance to take responsibility for this makes me cautious. It's a petrol automatic model. many thanks!
