  • Rover 214 stereo help needed 6 Mar 2006 (Forum)
Since then, I've had a battery failure meaning a new battery was to be fitted, but of course all the electrics were disconnected for a while. Although I have the radio code, apparently there is a start-up sequence to follow that requires the LCD. Anyone know how to re-install the stereo without the display ?

  • Suggested poll topic 2 Jun 2005 (Forum)
How many of us listen to Johnny Walker on radio 2 on our drives home? I do, and particularly enjoy his "cruising" feature (3 great driving tracks chosen by a listener, and played after the 6 o' clock news.) I know JW reads HJ's column in the Telegraph.
  • Adding a cd stacker unit to a Citroen C5 22 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Being tight fisted I would not pay for the Citroen stacker unit.I have two brand new 10 cd units a Sony and a Blaupunkt including leads.Does anybody know if it is possible to mate either of these up to the factory fitted radio cd unit.If I am not mistaken the unit is made by clarion but with Cit/Pug connectors.
  • omega climate control illumination 5 Jun 2004 (Forum)
Current problem though is that the bulbs behind the climate control buttons need changing. Any tips on how to remove the climate panel/radio to get at the bulbs? I assume the ash tray plays a part, but I can't work out how to remove it.
  • Boosting Long/Medium wave reception 18 Mar 2004 (Forum)
On a standard BMW radio the reception is generally fine, by which I mean I am mainly tuned to FM (when not playing CDs). However I also tune in to medium wave for sport and occasionally also to long wave, and would like to improve reception quality and number of listenable stations on these bands.
  • £1000 road tax for gas guzzlers!! 16 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Just heard a piece on the radio claiming that the powers that be are considering massive increases in RFL for 'gas guzzlers'. £1000 was mentioned as a figure but where this came from I don't know. Can't see the manufacturers being very pleased at the prospect or indeed the owners of cars whose value is likely to plummet.
  • New Toll/Congestion Charge? 2 Jan 2004 (Forum)
Folks, Heard on the radio this morning (Virgin) that Ken Livingston is proposing a new charging system for all journeys made within the M25... Unfortunately they gave no more details than that, is this old news or has anyone heard anything about this?
  • Hands-free mobile phone options? 10 Sep 2003 (Forum)
I’ve seen these cradles in Halfords, but I assume they are simply that – a cradle to hold your phone? Is a system whereby on receiving a call you simply turn off your radio and talk megabucks? Hope that makes sense. :-(
  • current leak 8 Jul 2003 (Forum)
This all goes through one fuse which powers the cigarette lighter, the clock, the interior light and the radio. I haven't traced the leak any further as it hasn't caused any problems yet. I've done the maths and with my battery the drain will drain the battery totally in 2.5 weeks but I imagine it will make itself felt earlier than this.
  • I.C.E. - MP3 ? 24 Dec 2002 (Forum)
I'm looking at replacing my car radio with a cd/mp3 tuner. (1) has anybody got any recommendations for a unit under £200 ? (2) the benefits of mp3 are 8+ hrs on one cd - what are the pitfalls ? (3) what software do you recommend for copying cd tracks to mp3 cds ?
  • Got yer ears on? good buddy. 23 Nov 2002 (Forum)
Long, long ago (1980), in a county far, far away (Lancs.), a young(ish) chap got his grubby mits on one of those pesky CB radio things and, after dark, became "TrashCan" or TC-214 on the side bands. Does anyone still have a "rig" in their motor? 27Mhz AM ruled, OK Ahhhhh, happy days.... John R
  • Keyless entry 28 Oct 2002 (Forum)
Having lost the remote for my Honda Civic and costing the thick end of £100 to replace, I have decided to replace it with a radio controlled device instead of the next to useless infra red system fitted as standard. Can anyone recommend a suitable keyless entry system, diy or technician fit or should I have an alarm fitted inc. keyless entry but minus an immobilisor, which is fitted as standard.
  • RDS clocks (again) 3 Apr 2002 (Forum)
Sorry to bring this up again, but with the clocks going forward last weekend, I made an interesting discovery for anyone who uses the RDS time function in their car radios. Basically, wait for the BBC to send the right clock codes and you'll wait till hell freezes over. Tune to Classic FM and the clock updates within a few seconds - which may (or may not) be as much Classic FM as you can take!
  • NissanAlmera - audio equipment 23 May 2001 (Forum)
Hello ! I have just bought a Nissan Almera, and want to change the rather poor Radio, however unlike other cars it seems to be built into the dashboard, ie, there is a flange on the dashboard which seems to make it impossible to remove the old unit. Does anyone out there know how to whip the old one out, - does it mean having to dismantle the whole dashboard or what ?
  • Jeep - In car adverts 11 Feb 2025 (Forum)
https://techstory.in/stellantis-introduces-pop-up-ads-in-vehicles-sparking-outrage-among-owners/ To think that many of us thought that intrusive nagging "safety" features were the worst thing that could happen.  I expect that this new hell will even switch on the sound despite you having the radio off.  I don't have an infotainment screen in my old car but if I did I would be taping a black cloth over it.
  • Any - Landrover 8 Nov 2022 (Forum)
Heard a interesting piece on the radio today, presenter was talking to the editor of Autocar, he said customers buying a new landrover/ rangerover are being asked to sign a document before handover "stopping" them selling the car to anyone except a LR dealer within the first 6 months of ownership, apparently its to stop speculators.....surely can't be legally enforceable??
  • Mercedes-Benz C-Class - faulty lcd display 16 Feb 2018 (Forum)
I am having a problem with the lcd display when using radio or sat nav: it goes off then back on again which keeps happening throughout the journey some more than others ! i have tried to repeat fault by tapping it ,and can't see anything obvious ? the type of unit is the one that when turned off folds away in to dashboard if that helps find a solution?
  • Ford Focus Zetec 2003 - Speedometer flickering 19 May 2016 (Forum)
It is fine 99.9% of the time but, occasionally/randomly, it will flicker noticeably for a few seconds before settling back down. When it does occur, the radio has, on an odd occasion 'surged' too. (The battery was changed recently as was the speed sensor). None of the other dials do this. Might it be an electrical fault with the instrument cluster or it there another possible reason?
