Advice for new car - i've confused myself! 14 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Other than that I'm pretty open minded about petrol or diesel, manual or automatic. I've just got myself in a position where I can't see the wood for the trees so would really appreciate somebody taking a dispassionate look for me. i have a budget of 8-10k. thank you! -
2004 Toyota Corolla 2.0 D4D 116 - Corolla E12 D4D won't start when hot 23 Mar 2019 (Forum)
The auto electrician who worked on the car did not fix the problem, instead he modified the cooling system so the fan would work permanently. This first consequence was an unbelievable fuel consumption for a diesel ( 16 city 29 highway) .The difficulty starting the car appeared when he finally got the fan to work normally. The problem is that even now i noticed that the fan does not work perfectly well. -
Any - New 3 door petrol-boot for wheelchair 11 Nov 2017 (Forum)
In any event 3 door easier access. ..they never have rear seat passangers anyways *must be petrol or hybrid automatic. No interest in electric. Do lots short journey so don't want diesel. Also get disabilty rebate on fuel * must have boot big enough for wheelchair. But not a deep boot..and not too high off ground...ideally level loading area. Mother in law be lifting the wheelchair in and out and, although healthy, is 70. -

VW Golf GT 2.0 TDI (2004) - Real world MPG v trip computer (is mine faulty?) 22 Apr 2016 (Forum)
My cars average real life MPG (Honest John) is supposed to be 49. My reading fluctuates between 58.9 and 58.7. I have run the car only on Shell V Power diesel since owning it and have done way over 2k miles with this fuel. The car has been properly serviced and maintained by the book and has 60k miles on it. I have not done a proper brim to empty test yet, but wondered if other people's trip computer MPG's are as way out as what mine seems to be? -

Hyundai Santa Fe 2.0 CRTD - Slow rev pickup from cold. 20 Jan 2016 (Forum)
Hardly revs atall then. Any Ideas? Getting stuck on ideas. I did think that it may be to do with cold diesel maybe? From cold there is a bit of smoke from the exhaust. When hot nothing, even on flat out rev's. Thanks -
Vauxhall Zafira 2.0 DTi 05 plate - Programming of new ECU codes - neccessary? 30 Jan 2014 (Forum)
I own a Vauxhall Zafira diesel which has done approx 70,000 miles. I have had problems with heavy steering and with the car intermittently losing power on accelerating and the engine management light (spanner symbol) flashing and the traction control warning light coming on then going off again. -
2005 Picasso Hdi 50k miles - Citroen Picasso engine management light 26 Jul 2013 (Forum)
Hi Looking a bit of help please! Have a 2005 reg Citroen Picasso 2.0l diesel, only 50k on the clock, About a year ago the engine management lit came on randomly after driving perfectly to our local garage (garage was ouR main Peugeot dealer) and they found several faults and replaced sensors. -
Ford Grand C-MAX - 1.6TDCi Loss of power, no fault codes. 12 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I also let the turbo cool down properly after long trips. The car's not used a drop of oil, and I've only ever fueled it with premium diesel too. It has been running a little rougher and noisier than normal over the last few months, but nothing severe enough to say it's running badly. Any ideas what could be wrong? -
Ford focus 1.6 tdci studio - Mistake buy with DPF? 4 Mar 2013 (Forum)
We placed a £500 deposit on a ford focus 1.6 tdci studio 59 reg DPF that has 58,000 miles on the clock that is costing 6500 I will be using it to commute back and forth from uni on the weekends that is a roundtrip motorway journey of 140 miles and occasionaly 5-10 miles during the weekdays in the town and estimate about 7000-8000 miles a year. We found this car and thought it would be a good buy because of the fuel economy (and i personally find diesels a better drive) but from what i may be reading, this might be a trap. It is an ex-company car so it has been fully serviced by ford dealers but nothing has been mentioned about a DPF replacement. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 1.8tdci engine/DMF problems 10 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Hi everyone I am experiencing major problems with my focus diesel. Car cuts out at various speeds whilst driving along after which the glow plug light flashes, which i understand acts as an engine management warning lamp. This has been happening on and off for the past 4 months. -
economical car recommendations? 13 Oct 2011 (Forum)
I'd be really grateful for some guidance on getting a new car. My criteria are: diesel good fuel economy automatic I would prefer: cheaper end of the insurance bracket 1.6 - 2l engine (I assume that's reasonable? Don't want it to struggle on the motorways) I'd also welcome advice on leasing vs buying. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 02 2.0TD stuttering/jumping/kangaroo & grey smoke 1 Nov 2010 (Forum)
No warning lights on the dashboard. I had the fuel filter changed as i thought it might be a supply issue. Cured it straight away. However the problem has returned in the last 2 days. The Ford dealer in Hove cannot see me until next monday but there is a garage right behind me (who did the filter) who will do the repair but are not able to do diagnostics. -
Renault Megane - Renault megane 1.4 1999 lumpy idle 14 Oct 2010 (Forum)
I wanted to check for misfire but thought better of just grounding the plugs on the engine! Also the injector seems to have got noisier and sounds like a sodding diesel now! I have also recently adjusted the tappets, and this was done correctly. Any suggestions welcome, cant really afford to send it to the garage, I am a mechanic but Im out of ideas at the moment! -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 01 2.0 TDDI engine oil level increasing 2 Sep 2009 (Forum)
More or less coincident with the second hose problem, the engine oil level has started to increase - now above maximum - and it is believed to be caused by diesel fuel in the oil. Is this a known issue? I can't find it having searched all over the place. I understand the mechanic intends to replace the high pressure pump (which has a cost near the value of the car). -
Should I 'give up' on Company car 12 Jun 2009 (Forum)
The principle is that my employer increases my salary (I am a basic rate tax payer) by the same amount as the current cost to them of the contract hire, fuel, insurance etc, so they are no worse off. I run my own car and can then also claim the mileage against income tax which friends have worked out would be about £9000 a yr. based on my 30,000 buisness miles p.a. -
Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - 02 2.0 HDI 110 - Strange cylinder compression read 26 Mar 2009 (Forum)
