Ford Galaxy - Diesel Automatic slipping out of gear 6 Jan 2014 (Forum)
My 2002 diesel automatic Galaxy has been slipping out of gear, particularly when over about 40mph. If you are very gentle on the accelerater you can keep it in gear and generally drive quite normally. Just come back from the garage where I have been told it needs the gearbox rebuilt, he said it would cost around £2000 and advised me against doing it. -
Citroen C3 - Good small torque-converter automatic 31 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I'm looking around on the net for a replacement for my sister's Getz 1.3 Auto. Basically, the replacement has to be small, automatic (torque-converter, not a mechanised manual or CVT), and must have a decent enough turn of speed to overtake on a motorway happily (which the Getz 1.3 auto doesn't have). My suggestions so far have been a Citroen C3 1.6 auto, or a Ford Fiesta 1.6 auto, both around 2008 vintage. -
Vauxhall Corsa auto - automatic does not engage reverse unless revved 13 Nov 2011 (Forum)
My wife's ancient V reg Corsa automatic is pretty reliable for it's age and regularly goes up and down the M1 between Herts and Yorks. About 70k on the clock Occasionally when engaging reverse it refuses to move without a quick flip on the accelerator after which it performs normally. -

Renault Megane II (2002 - 2008) - Automatic Wipers 10 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Hello there folks, Following on from the "Switches and controls you like-dislike" thread, I'd appreciate some advice please. I have a 2003 Megane Expression and find the automatic wipers fairly infuriating. If it's just spitting with rain, they often flap about the screen like John McCrirrick having a fit and if it's fair chucking down they often stay resolutely still. I've looked in vain for a way to switch them off and return to good old intermittent wipers but to no avail. -
Advice about broken 1988 volvo Automatic 10 Mar 2005 (Forum)
Can anyone help? I have a 1988 Volvo Automatic 2.3 Estate which has been with my mechanic (who I have known for over 30 years) since the beginning of February because it keeps stalling. He has done everything to get it running including change two petrol pumps, renewed the distributor and wiring etc. -
What's the history of folding tin tops? 25 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Who made the first proper automatic folding metal roof ? When I say proper , I mean like in the Mercedes Benz SLK and (latest) SL, not like the automatic "targa" roofed Honda CRX of the early-mid nineties. I vaguely recall seeing some American cars of the Fifties/Sixties that had folding roof sections which would be automatically stored in the boot....??? -
Merc C320 Automatic fault 30 Oct 2003 (Forum)
Hi, I have a 2001 (new shape) Merc C320 Automatic (Tiptronic), fantastic car but with one intermittent problem which Mercedes cannot cure, and does not seem to get logged in the onboard fault recording. When starting the car and moving from P to D on the gears the car jolts into gear and when driving refuses to move out of 1st. -
Running in an Automatic 16 Sep 2002 (Forum)
I have checked all the FAQ info and done a search on the techie threads, but there does not seem to be an answer to running in a new automatic. My other half (Anne) has bought a sparkly Honda CRV auto for collection on Friday from Bob Gerard (very nice and helpful people) and is wanting to know how to treat it on the drive from Great Glen back to Yorkshire. -
