FIAT Punto (1994 - 1999) - Injector warning lamp ON (1998 75SX) 20 Sep 2007 (Forum)
I have a problem with my 1998 Punto 75SX where the Injector warning lamp comes on and the engine appears to be just firing on two cylinders. I've checked out the ignition coils, leads and connectors and the spark plugs seem to be sparking OK. Unplugging the connectors from the ECU and spraying them with contact cleaner sometimes makes the fault go away for a few days and then it comes back again. -
Sony Xplod CD/tuner not, erm, tuning 29 Jun 2007 (Forum)
CD changer and cassette still work fine. I haven´t tried anything just yet (including resetting the unit). Could the ariel lead have fallen out the back, or something? Thought I would ask here first. Thanks in advance, Barchettaman -
Faulty ABS - MOT failure? 6 Jun 2007 (Forum)
The ABS sensors in my car (Hyundai Accent X-reg) have packed up. The dealer said it would need new sensors and new drive shafts leading to a whopping £700 bill. Since normal braking is fine, I don't want to fix it. But is it going to fail in MOT? There is a single red warning light on dash showing [(!)(P)BRAKE] altogether. As soon as parking brake is released the light goes off. -
Mondeo 1.8lx (99) power loss 10 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Just before the probs, we noticed a whistle when the accelerator was pressed (sounded like a turbo whistle). Dunno if that had any bearing on it. Could it just be plugs/leads/coil or something more serious? It only had it's MOT three weeks ago, though we know how useful those are! Any ideas out there? -
Citroen Dispatch Limp mode 1 Mar 2007 (Forum)
Now and again the van goes into Limp mode when you use the turbo for more than 10 secs. I've checked the pipes leading from the turbo and all seem okay, but what i did find was a item that looks like a VTA Dumpvalve which i know aint standard on these vans. This piece has oil all over it suggesting that the valve might be stuck open. -
Mazda 323 Starting Problem 28 Dec 2006 (Forum)
It was service about a month ago, spark plugs are relatively recent, so I'm hoping that the poor starting is caused by damp which liberal application ofr WD40 should sort out. My question is: where should I be spraying WD40? Should I take the leads off the spark plugs and spray inside them, or simply spray everything on the outside. By the way, I'm clueless regarding everything under the bonnet, so please could any replies be phrased in laymans terms! -
what do folks think about wide A pillars 10 Oct 2006 (Forum)
Hi, Recently been looking at a Zafira, and one of the negatives listed about the vehicle is the width of the A Pillars. Basically, blind spots that can potentially lead to accidents, particularly at roundabouts. Looking at most modern cars, this seems a problem that is fairly widespread. What do people think, do driving MPVs like the Zafira require extra work? -
Italian Tune Up 22 Aug 2006 (Forum)
I have read numerous recommendations for the Italian Tune up in posts on these forums. I must admit to not knowing what it meant so I have done some research which leads me to ask the question, whilst I would have no problems in red lining a petrol engine, I am very concerned to red line a common rail diesel engine. I hope I have understood the concept right but it basically suggests to me that you have to cane your car to get it as hot as possible. -
Holiday observations 8 Aug 2006 (Forum)
Are we British in the minority here ? 3. If you wonder where all the Petrol stations have gone, you'll find them on the roads leading from Switzerland into France. 4. I have only ever seen two Renault Megane Estates - did they just not make many ? 5. er thats it, although I did see a Studebaker in Nyon no.. I thought not. -
Insurance Claim Advice 20 Jul 2006 (Forum)
m claiming it as uninsured losses. The big BUT is that the lorry driver is from a non-EU country (Romania) and I have been lead to believe that it will be nearly impossible to recover my money. Has anyone had any experience of this? Or can give me some advice. -
Fiesta water leak 21 Jun 2006 (Forum)
However, it's not clear whether the water is getting in at that point also, or just finding its way there from somewhere else. The car has been through a carwash recently and no water got in then, leading me to think that it's being thrown up from the back wheels and somehow getting in. The boot interior is in good condition without any rust holes, etc - just damp carpets! All help appreciated. Cheers. -
Astra DTI Camshaft seal leak 20 Jun 2006 (Forum)
When running it looks like the camshaft has some movement in it causing the seal to stretch and compress leading to leakage. Has anyone heard of this? Can you replace the cam bearings if they are knackered? Any help very gratefully recieved. Many Thanks, Stuart -
Thinking of selling up. But what next? 22 Feb 2006 (Forum)
This is after driving at 60 when on the A3, not revving hard, and giving it a good 'blow out' every now and then. The quoted 650 miles I was achieving at one point, I was happy with. The fuel consumption leads me onto my next point... The whole common rail '££££' scenario has left me feeling a little cautious. But what next? The 306 was to all intents my 'perfect' car. I'm a little out of ideas, so just throw some my way. -
Mechanical sympathy 17 Feb 2006 (Forum)
I tend to concentrate on making my driving smooth, particularly when changing gear and braking, and he insists that this will lead to more wear and tear on the clutch and brakes. He, on the other hand, tends to make his gearchanges abrupt, saying that just dropping the clutch in means no clutch slipping. I should add at this point that in no way do I slip the clutch when changing gear, apart from being relatively gentle when changing between low gears such as 1st and 2nd. -
1994 Saab GM900 CD changer fitting 26 Jan 2006 (Forum)
For some reason there's no cable from the original head unit to the boot in place already, so I'm going to have to fit the one I've bought. Anyone any tips on the routing and fitting for this? I'm guessing it will follow the aerial lead. Is this the kind of job it might be better to pay someone else to do? Also, the Clarion CDC634 changer will almost fit in the glovebox. A little cutting up of the interior of the box and it would fit nicely. -
What £6K commuter/family car? 29 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Comfortable, reliable, Big Boot, economical, cheap to run and insure (if this is possible!) The two leading candidates in my mind at the moment are the ubiquitous Mondeo TDCi, and the Primera 2.2DCi. If anyone has experience of both these cars and can contrast, or knows of an alternative then please fire away. -
Megane 1996 radio problem 23 Nov 2005 (Forum)
Am I missing a trick or is the unit faulty? I did notice there was an earth connector on the back which desn't seem to have a sitable lead, but I'm assuming this is irrelevan as the actual thing works OK. Anyone any ideas?? -
Juggernauts & now Road Trains ? 11 Sep 2005 (Forum)
If you happen to drive a low powered car with poor acceleration, the overtaking times are going to be doubled and could lead to even more accidents. As fuel prices rise to their unacceptable level, hauliers will push for their introduction to reduce their unit costs, but it ends up with additional taxation on the already over taxed motorist. -
Sluggish Acceleration With Fiesta 14 Aug 2005 (Forum)
I guess what I really asking people to do is give me some idea what the 'in between' stuff might be. (I've changed the plugs and leads all to no avail). It's a very open ended question and I appreciate that but if folks could give me some pointers I'd appreciate it - any comments would be appreciated, John -
Madness dual c/w back to single 1 Jun 2005 (Forum)
The Highways agency say it is dangerious hence the conversion (and there have been a number fatalities), but yesterday on the way home, drivers were trying to overtake HGVs in the only other places left - i.e. almost blind single lane roads. This will surely lead to more fatalities - just in different places.
