Looking for a new (to me) car but with specifics! 27 May 2012 (Forum)
However I only have £4000 to play with but the car must have the following attributes: 1)Must be as quiet as possible on the motorway at 70-80mph 2)Be cheap on insurance (it appears that insurance groups don't make any difference as C180K (Grp 13) costs less to insure than a Honda Accord (Grp 11)!) 3)Be ok on fuel and get 40mpg 4)Be infinitely reliable 5)Either diesel or petrol, although diesel is preferred I'd rather not have the complexity of a modern diesel with all its trickery. 6)Be Tax band J or lower. -
Ford Fiesta 1.4 TDCi - White/grey smoke on startup or after idling 15 Mar 2011 (Forum)
He wouldn't commit to anything without an expensive engine strip down. Since then I've done 400 miles and making sure only diesel is going in the tank ruling out the petrol theory, the car uses no oil or water and runs at the correct temperature. I've read that white/grey smoke is unburnt diesel, this would explain the poor fuel economy, the car has done 78000 miles and has a patchy service history. -
Ford Transit (2001) - Transist 2.0TDDi running fault 13 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Neither of these have happened. I have replaced the fuel filter and this has improved the the general performance of the van slightly but noth the missfire. I am now starting to think maybe the injectors are at fault and it is not getting enough fuel to 1/all cylinders Any help would be greatly appriciated as im no diesel expert. -

Golf Diesel Cutting Out 18 Oct 2004 (Forum)
Everything you could think of we checked, ie tank unit out checked filters, blew fuel lines out, replaced fuel filter, checked all joints for sucking in air. One day a chap was walking past the garage who knew the boss and commented on this car and gave him a bit of history. He said it had been to the dealers who had replaced allsorts and gave it back to the garage who had sent it in for repair, who in turn had given it back to their customer, and it broke down in the Tyne Tunnel. -
Ford Fiesta - misfiring, it now happens 2 Jun 2004 (Forum)
3. it now smokes on acceleration, quite a bit when its cold, but it gets less as the engine warms up, could this be related to item number 2? 4. ive had the diesel leaked fixed, it was leaking from the throtle shaft seal. 5. its now running on so called "cleaner diesel", but it was misfiring before the change, so ive ruled that out 6. ive tried changing petrol stations, no difference to misfiring or the smoke. 7. ive replaced the fuel filter & checked for water getting into the fuel. both have got no problems. -

HMC&E - An out of control private army?? 21 Nov 2003 (Forum)
Anyone had any dealings with HMC&E regards illegal fuel? Would be interested to hear about your experiences. Was "done" this time last year for having red diesel in the running tank of my car. I paid 70p per litre for what I believed should have been clear diesel. -
What consumption do you consider is "gas guzzling" 15 Sep 2008 (Forum)

Volkswagen Passat (2001 - 2005) - 06 1.9 Hydro hybrid fuel improvement for better mp 18 Dec 2009 (Forum)
Forget the Green bit in a way, I'm also after the Mean part of this product, i.e saving money on ever rising petrol & diesel costs at the pump. I'm very persuaded to get a Hydo unit from hydrotechnix (http://www.water-fuel-hybrid.moonfruit.com) but I'm still a little nervous. Does anyone have any experience of how well these work and if they last? -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1999 2.0 HDI Air in fuel line? 23 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Hi, I very stupidly let my car run out of diesel the other day, she started fine when I put fuel in her and I drove to work. I then drove home and it was still ok (although the engine diagnostics light was on) but when I tried to start her again it wouldnt kick in, I am assuming there is air in the fuel line? -
A bigger engine = worse fuel economy? 15 Feb 2007 (Forum)
Hi, Been looking for a new mid-mpv, at my price range I can get a nearly new 1.6 or 1.8 Zafira or a bit older diesel, pretty much the same situation on the other cars I have looked at. I am keen to get as fuel efficient car as I can, my current Picasso gives around 35 mpg on longer trips but reading some reviews it seems that in some cases 1.8 or 2.0 cars can get better fuel efficiency and in some cases better than their equivalent 1.6.
