  • vw up the basic model - clutch renewal 7 Jun 2019 (Forum)
Hi I've only just joined but I would appreciate any comments on the following I bought a preregistered vw takeup in 2014 and although I don't do many miles each year (4550) since new I am aware of the clutch and gear selection problems These are only just affecting my up and I am now considering changing the clutch when I doe a google search for a up clutch kit I have a choice of several different manufactures with a wide difference in price Can anybody advise me which  is the best one to fit I  think the underlying problem iis that volkswagen built the up to a low cost specification and as VAG already manufacture the MINI did not want to in  direct competition and pitched the cost lower  with the result that many of the parts were purchased for the lowest price and have resulted in the problems that early model up owners have .This has now been resolved with the introduction of the new Tsi up models I  like the UP and would like to resolve these problems with better items replacing the original rubbish I don't think that a VW approved garage would like to do the work so I will get a local mechanic to change the clutch but which one should I ask them to fit  I've changed many clutches in the past normally out in the street using a pair of ramps and a screwdriver to centralise the spline but that was in the 1970's and 80's Any comments would be gratefully received smiffyuk

  • Skoda Superb (2008 - ) - DSG not as efficient as was promised? 15 Sep 2008 (Forum)
Skoda Octavia 1.9 TDI 105PS: manual 57.6mpg 130g/km, DSG 47.9mpg 156g/km (see http://www.skoda.co.uk/ourcars.aspx) Volkswagen Touran 2.0 TDI 140PS: manual 47.1mpg 159g/km, DSG 43.5mpg 172g/km (see http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/#/new/touran/which-model/engines/fuel-consumption/ ) So it seems that while the DSG is more efficient than a torque-converter automatic, it still lags some way behind the efficiency of a manual.

  • Golf Mk 5 Buying Decision 10 Jul 2004 (Forum)
Running in took a while though, exclusive use of Shell Diesel and 18 mile part motorway commute to work probably helped. Anway, I have experienced nothing to put me off buying another Volkswagen. During the recent 30,000 mile service I had a Golf 5 courtesy car. This was a cunning sales ploy, as depite it being a basic 1.4S the talents of the car shone through. Yes they have cut corners with the interior (scratchy hard plastics) and the styling takes a while to get used to (lots more room inside), but the chassis was a huge leap forward.
