Renault Clio II (2001 - 2007) - 2001 1.2 Engine occasionally cuts out 29 Nov 2009 (Forum)
It will start with a push. It was serviced recently with new plugs, air & oil filters and new oil. I notice that the plug leads seem to be the the carbon filled type which were never the best. Apart from that it must be a fuel problem. I think that the idle speed appears to be quite low. Any suggestions?? -
Peugeot 205 (1983 - 1997) - 94 1.1 Major Battery malfunction 27 Nov 2009 (Forum)
I have never had this problem with any of my cars, so it has puzzled me I recently took the old battery out of my 205 as it was dead, and replaced it with a brand new one, the problem came when I connected the negative lead to the battery... as soon as I did, a crackling sound came from the front left of the engine bay, then smoke started coming out of the part that is on the right hand side that had a belt around it and what looks to be a fan inside the casing I have no idea what the part is called, but it is the only thing connected to the radiator with a belt on that side of the engine Bay -
Mitigating circumstances for red light penalty... 8 Sep 2009 (Forum)
Hi, Have just received a notice of intent to prosecute for passing through a red light. As I have accumulated 9 points within 3 years, this will lead to a totting up ban. I went through the light in Bristol at 1.30am in the morning following a 5 hour drive from Manchester in my camper van on the way to Cornwall. I got lost on the roundabout, had to switch lanes and then got flashed. -
East Riding of Yorks to get Speed Vigilantes. 26 Jul 2009 (Forum)
http://tinyurl.com/speed-patrols VILLAGERS are to be trained by the police to use speed guns, in a drive to put a brake on motorists. Pilot schemes are to go ahead in several villages, which could lead to the initiative being rolled out across the East Riding. Under the scheme, communities are expected to raise about £2,000 to buy a speed gun, which would become the property of Humberside Police. -
Future cars, small engine with turbo 3 Jun 2009 (Forum)
Just checking the likes of autocar web site and found that the future of cars seems to be leading to small engines (1.0 Litres to 1.4 litres) with turbo's. This got me thinking that are we going to end up a nation of non paying road tax (sorry I mean Vehicle Exercise Duty) as all of these cars are 'green' ? -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 02 2.0 ST170 hesitation at 2200rpm 21 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I noticed it in most gears, mostly if I cruised at 2200, and also if I accelerated through it in 2nd gear. It's had new spark plugs. I changed the HT leads this morning and it is better but not perfect. I don't notice it on cruising anymore, only when accelerating through the range in 2nd gear. Sometimes it feels like an automatic, when you put your foot down in, say, 3rd and it accelerates for a second then decides to change down and there's a surge of power when it locks up. -
Toyota RAV-4 (1994 - 2000) - 94 2.0 Immobiliser removal and loss of ignition 9 Apr 2009 (Forum)
I have removed the 918T ECU unit from my Rav 4.First I could not run the starter motor until I was told to connect together the leads going to Pins 14 & 15 on the 15 pin socket. Others may be interested in this as it took me a while to find this out. I was highly chuffed to find the starter motor now functioned . That was the good news, the bad news was that the car still didn't start. -

Traffic light duration. 13 Mar 2009 (Forum)
When going away from home the lights give plenty of time to clear traffic, including a right turn arrow. Coming back, the lights are on green for precisely 6 seconds, leading to tailbacks, especially at 'school chucking out' time If there is a mimser at the head of the queue who doesn't realise that being in gear would be a good idea then only2 or 3 cars get across. -
Vauxhall Astra F (1991 - 1998) - 92 1.4 Strut removal problems 19 Jan 2009 (Forum)
it is rivetted to the lower arm; there is no room to put on a small seperator due to the drive shaft; I am nervous about driving in a wedge as there is a good chance of wrecking the rubber leading to new lower arm etc. any tips would be gratefully received. The track rod ends don't fit my seperator either. i am about to buy a small gear puller which would fit but again experience is great so a pointer to what works would be great. -

Thinking it is the battery, if so does someone know where the battery is to remove it to charge it? or where it is so that I can try to jump start it with leads? If anyone thinks it might be something else then please suggest Many thanks and sorry for my ignorance! Regards -
FSA and Insurance comparison websites 13 Nov 2008 (Forum)
Excesses need to be explained Too much emphasis on just comparing prices - users must be advised that other factors should also be compared Some info was out of date on the sites leading to price differences when choosing an insurer. Data from the comparison may not be transferred correctly to the insurance company So use them, but always double check everything before entering into a contract. -
Volkswagen Golf III (1992 - 1997) - 1995 1.4 Engine cuts out after a few miles 31 Oct 2008 (Forum)

Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 05 1.8 Rattle from exhaust at idle speed 6 Aug 2008 (Forum)
The idle speed is 750rpm with a tiny bit of fluctuation. Recently it has had a genuine Ford(Fomoco) coil pack and leads. The complete exhaust is genuine and all hangers are there. I think the noise is coming from the exhaust manifold pipe with the flexible wire mesh join/bulb thingy Are these a weak spot? I have moved any heat shielding along the exhaust length out of harms way (that i can see) Any ideas folks? -

"Breathable" cover - made of PVC ? 9 Apr 2008 (Forum)
The box just says "waterproof" - no mention of breathable My first thoughts are that the material just doesnt look breathable, and probably liable to lead to condensation which is prob worse than having no cover at all. the brand of cover is "Streetwise" - this isnt the suppliers name BTW. anyone any other information ? Or can recommend a decent make of cover that is definately breathable (and water-resistant/waterproof) ? -
Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 02 plate 1.8 (Z18XE engine) replacing thermostat 1 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Hi all My 02 plate 1.8 vectra (Z18XE engine) takes an absolute age to warm up, and the top hose on the rad gets warm after only a couple of mins from cold, so this leads me to think the thermostat is stuck open. The thermostat housing is held on by what I believe are 2 torx bolts, my question is: How do you get to the bottom one? Accesss is very limited for both of them but especially the bottom one! -
KIA Pride (1991 - 2000) - '94, 1324cc, CV joint 1 Mar 2008 (Forum)
It's got me thinking, what is the point of this circlip, and does it matter that it's breaking up? I suppose if the other half gets in the balls it'll lead to early failure, but complete removal of the circlip? The joint's firmly held in the hub. There could be a bit of sliding movement in the driveshaft splines, but would it matter? -

Basically this is the issue, Cylunder 3 is not firing up and just keeps filling up with petrol Changed Coil Pack Changed Spark plugs Changed ignition leads what can cause this to happen? The work carried out on the car before it happened was a replacement clutch and grinding on the fly wheel. Help would be much appreciated Spencer
