Mixing/changing Brake fluid 26 Jun 2006 (Forum)
I have a '30s car fitted with pre-war hydraulic brakes (originally from a Triumph Gloria). The restorer of the car (pre my ownership) used silicon brake fluid, which is a pain - its very expensive and not easy to find when you need it. I asked around - including a couple of manufacturers - and was assured that modern DOT4 fluids are compatible with silicon, so I used some (months ago). -
Mercedes-Benz EQE - Emergency Brakes Applied - without warning 16 Nov 2024 (Forum)
Driving on a A class road approx 55mph. Warning on display “Emergency Brakes Being Applied” then Emergency Brakes applied, air bags exploded and came to a halt. Luckily no other vehicle around. No serious injuries apart from a sore head hitting the steering wheel. All this for no reason just happened with nothing around etc. -

Peugeot 307 - Rear brake disk hot/smelly 25 Jan 2013 (Forum)
Any suggestions? The smell could be the brake pads although it has a rubber/plastic smell. Thanks -
Ford Focus hatchback, Mk 1 - Brake disc and pad changing 14 Aug 2012 (Forum)
The Haynes manual for the Focus Mk 1 advises that when changing pads, you should clamp the brake hose and open a bleed nipple when pushing back the caliper piston rather than simply opening up the reservoir cap and letting the pressure go that way. This is apparently because with the latter method, there's a chance that the master cylinder seals would reverse and you would lose braking. -
Toyota Corolla - abs always activates at slow speed even in the dry 20 May 2012 (Forum)
The braking effect still seems to be effective and not diminished Many thanks -
Mercedes ML270 - bas ets abs epc 7 brake warning lights illuminated 1 Aug 2011 (Forum)
Any idea why the above lights keep coming on every now and again and go out when I pull off? My local indie MB man just wants to change the brake switch all the time. I have noticed also that when this occurs in traffic that the brake travel seems to go further under my foot and every now and again there is a graunching noise when I pull off. -
Suzuki Swift - Checking rear drum brakes 29 Apr 2011 (Forum)
Rear drum brakes: Why have manufacturers changed the design from separate drums to the combined hub and drum layout? A simple job of checking the rear brakes on my Suzuki Swift involves removing a very tight centre nut, hub pullers, a torque wrench, and replacing the locking nut (as it cannot be re-used) at £ 6.50 a time. -

mazda mx5 - compensation/ faulty brakes 6 Aug 2010 (Forum)
i bought a secondhand mazda approved mx5 in jan, in june i had an accident which was deemed my fault the paid for the repair, when it came back it was due for an MOT. The car failed due to worn pads and a 40% imbalance in the front brakes. I think contributed to my accident. When i looked through the paper work i noticed on the check list that the only item not to have been checked off were the brakes. Could someone please let me know were i stand in all of this please. -

I am repairing the brakes on my sons Citroen AX Dimention. How do i remove the pins which secure the brake pads in? I have coated them with WD40 and left overnight. Also i have tried to heat up the pins, although had to stop when the rubber boot around the Caliper piston caught fire. -
DIY reconditioning of corroded brake disc. 5 Mar 2009 (Forum)
One of the rear brake discs of my car has a long-standing 6 mm wide band of heavy corrosion at the outer diameter of the braking surface. The car has never failed an MOT but I'd like to get rid of the corrosion if possible. -
Peugeot 306 (1993 - 2001) - 1999 1.6 Knocking noise and vibration when braking 26 Dec 2008 (Forum)
Hi, I wonder if anyone could help me. I have a fairly loud knocking noise when I am braking. It's coming from the passenger side front wheel and feeds into the steering which wobbles along with the knocking noise. It's now started to affect the steering even when I'm not braking too. Any ideas what it could be, and perhaps more importantly, how much it might cost me!? -
Ford Fiesta (1995 - 1999) - 1996 1.3 How can I test brake warning light? 1 Dec 2008 (Forum)
My brake warning lamp does not seem to work. The handbrake light works so it is not the bulb. My dads also has the same problem. If I remove the brake fluid cap the light should come on shouldn't it? What do I need to short on the connector to test if it is the cap? -
Mitsu Colt-Leaking brake pipe...options? 29 Jan 2007 (Forum)
Hi all, Noticed when my car was up on lift at National having an oil change (its a 1993 Mitsu Colt), that one of the metal brake pipes near the rear offside wheel is leaking slowly. I have been needing to top up every few days lately, but thought it would be a leaking brake cylinder! Just wondered if its possible to put a sleeve on it, or any other type of repair, or is it a new pipe? -
307Xsi Rear Brake Pads Fitting 15 Nov 2006 (Forum)
I've fitted brake pads on older Fords in my time but not something like this. Is this easy to do? Do I need any special tools? Or is it a case of removing the wheel, removing some caliper clips and replacing with the new part? -
"New" auto car 11 Sep 2006 (Forum)
It’s got the auto tip box on it. When waiting at lights do I put it in neutral and put the hand brake on (as I do at the moment), or do I just sit there with it in drive with the brake pedal down? I feel the former is better, especially if there is someone behind at night, as I hate having to look at brake lights when someone is in front of me with the brake lights on.
