Potentially 1 of about 7 makes - best used diesel estate for 4-5k??? 16 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I'm changing my Volvo V70 which is high mileage and getting very expensive to keep going. I'm going to trade it for one of the following and I don't really know which will be the most reliable, given that I will be buying it with approx 100k miles and will take this to 200k over the next 5 or 6 years. -
DRLs 24 Aug 2010 (Forum)
If the acronym DRL refers to ‘Daytime Running Lights’, then I became accustomed to DRLs when I owned a Volvo 440. Since then I have my dipped headlights permanently switched on. – if only because I because I then don’t forgot to switch the lights on at dusk. But, relying on DRLs can have dangers if one does not switch the headlights on. -
Which new diesel automatic? 5 Jun 2009 (Forum)
BMW 1 Series 118d auto I have heard that the run flats give a harsh ride and that the interior quality isn’t great. Volvo V50 Powershift Some people complain about the poor economy and, according to one of the magazines, is due to be replaced next year. Skoda Octavia 140 CR DSG Not currently available with the CR engine apart from the 170 VRS, but huge alloys and low profile tyres put me off that model. -
Volkswagen Phaeton (2002 - ) - Am I nuts? Or just plain old fashioned mad? 7 Nov 2008 (Forum)
I mean, is 30k that much more than a top of the range Mundaneo? I know people who have spent more on unspectacular Volvo estates for heaven's sake. Please, someone, in the words of a recent poster, talk me out of this insanity. -
Peugeot 307 SW (2002 - 2008) - 2002 2.2 Unblock diesel filter warning 17 Oct 2008 (Forum)
If relevant the car does some long journeys but is mainly used to ferry the family about locally in town, the dashboard computer shows 34mpg average (better than my old volvo which did 22mpg) and average speed of 14mph! Its booked into the dealer tomorrow as we've a family wedding to travel to this weekend but I'm not sure if the "peugeot gold" warranty covers this type of fault and want to equip myself with a bit of knowledge (if I can) before they plug it into the computer for fault code analysis. -
Suitable car for tall person with injured knee 7 Dec 2007 (Forum)
With my badly damaged right knee and a bone structure on my left leg that makes a shepherds crook look arrow straight the top priority for me when buying a car is seat comfort and front leg room. I've been driving petrol Volvo automatics for a number of years; an early XC70 (not for the faint hearted as it was built at 3.55pm on a Friday afternoon just before the summer holiday) and a couple of S80's. These have served me well and would no doubt continue to do so were it not for the fact that my commute has now increased from 14 miles a day to at least 44 and my fuel bill has unsurprisingly rocketed. -
Aging population as car buyers 4 Mar 2007 (Forum)
You have Focus saloons, Corollas, Skoda Felicia, a Passat, Honda Jazz, Honda Civic, Rover 416, Astra, lots of Volvo S/V40's etc etc. Since the older buyers tend to have somewhat different needs when buying cars in general, will this have any knock-on effect as they become a bigger car buying section of society? -

Diesel/auto estate -suggestions please! 3 Jun 2006 (Forum)
and prob diesel too as I am spending far too much on petrol even in my little corolla at the moment. I have been checking out vehicles on autotrader and most diesel estates (volvo, VW etc.) seem to be being offered at way above book price, and also seem to have huge mileages on them - they just don't look good value. Will these vehicles just be moneypits once they are past 100,000 miles ? -
Advice on post-crash repair 22 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Assuming I'm not happy with the repair, should I approach the repairer first or approach the insurance company and ask them to have a look at it? Alternatively should I just pay for the local Volvo dealer to go over the car and express an opinion as to whether it is to an acceptable standard or not and then approach them either directly or (if it is not an acceptable standard) via a solicitor. -
4x4 bubble - will it burst? 7 Oct 2005 (Forum)
Unfortunately I don't earn enough to keep something such as a ML for ever, but, at the moment, can reasonably expect to cover my costs (including insurance etc) if I sell it back in the UK after a year (I am not allowed to sell any sooner) - in effect, getting free motoring less fuel, which is also a lot cheaper here than in the UK! Over the past few years I have done reasonably well with X5s and Volvo XC90s. However I read in the papers concerns in the UK about increasing fuel costs, road charging etc, and wonder whether in a year or 2 second hand prices will start to plummet. Personally I am more than happy to drive something less enormous, but, ironically, most of these will not be worth what I paid for them a year later, even with the discount etc. -
R12 replacements - Air Con. 7 Aug 2003 (Forum)
A few squashed flies and road grime which lifted off with a soft brush, revealing nicely painted black radiator underneath. I know its an old car (1986 Volvo 360) and not worth spending much money on, but is the r416a gas any good? or is it worth getting the car converted to run on r134a? Also, did he put enough gas in it this time? Because the sight glass on the receiver/dryer is bubbling when the system is on. -
Honda Shuttle? 20 May 2003 (Forum)
The only 'nagging doubt' is it's build quality and reliability (Fiat). I've always gone for cars that will last you into double figure years - currently drive a Volvo and Honda Jazz (fantastic small car). I thought I'd checked out all there was in the MPV market (6 seats and above) until somebody in work today mentioned a 3 year old Honda Shuttle. I'd be talking between £9k-10k for a W reg with FSH in the 2.3 LS model, which is well inside my budget. -
Now I know what you feel like... 13 May 2003 (Forum)
More annoying that it's our car, when I haven't touched a kerb in years of company cars! Oh for 16" rims (and I have just read on one of the Volvo web sites of a guy who wants to fit 20" rims to his!) -
Our Accident 17 Feb 2003 (Forum)
The Omega has a fairly decent crash rating I seem to rememeber, but does this mean anything except in a direct head on, or 90 degree side hit? My replacement car? Well, I've put a deposit on a Volvo V70. Any thoughts? -
Aston Martin AMV8 built in India!!! 9 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Prime Automotive Group handles all the premier brands of the world's second largest automaker Ford Motor Company, like Austin Martin, Volvo, Jaguar and Land Rover. This is the first time that an international car maker has utilised the services of an Indian design firm for prototype building and it is likely to give Dilip Chhabria Design a much-needed stepping stone for foraying into the highly-competitive global automobile design market. -
Vauxhall Omegas the end? 4 Jan 2003 (Forum)
Does anyone know what the plan is for the Omega, only that in 2003 I want to get another estate, maybe A6 Avant, Volvo v70 but have come back round to Omega again, get them at half the price of the german or swedes car for the same year but not half the car! But I want to buy at the right time or not buy so just want to know a bit more about what people think / know is going to happen to the Omega..... -
Tuning box/Battery probs 18 Oct 2001 (Forum)
On Monday I had a 'Kueberl' tuning box unit fitted to my Vauxhall Vectra DI 16v (82 hp) by Bromleys Volvo in Chorley, near Preston I am very impressed with the improvements, as the car has more torque lower down and when I 'floor it', the car goes like a rocket! However I had the unit fitted by them, but the installation is not as straight forward as I thought. -
Volkswagen Golf IV (1998 - 2004) - Golf GTI 1.8T - first impressions 25 Mar 2010 (Forum)
I've also had more positive comments on the car from friends and colleagues in a week than I had in 2 years with the Volvo. Whatever you say about Golfs, people like them. I will add more as it comes. Cheers DP -
