Need suggestions on buying a fuel efficient car 7 Jan 2011 (Forum)
The mileage I get with this car is around 30MPG, I didn't relaize that I have been spending too much money on fuel (approx £6000 an year), so want to buy another fuel-efficient car. Any suggestions on which car I can buy for my needs? 1. First preference is for the best mileage 2. Should be motorway commutable (I guess 1.0 is fine) 3. -
2005 Mondeo TDCi (2.2) - Frozen Fuel Lines/Filter 23 Dec 2010 (Forum)
Both last week and this week (temperature below -10oC) when trying to open her up (past about 2000 revs) coil light will come on, she'll splutter, cough and die a death, although if I'm lucky she will go into limp mode and I may just be able to get home. I'm convinced it's frozen fuel lines or the filter as the exact same thing happened the other week and when the thaw set in and temperatures rose above freezing she was ok. Done the usual, that is keeping the fuel tank as full as possible, warming her up for at least 15-20 minutes first thing in the morning but this has not mad a difference. -
Ford Fusion (2002 - 2008) - 04 1.4tdci - unreliable starter..any ideas ? 30 Jan 2010 (Forum)
the aec fail light has never cam on again but the car doesn't always start. Sometimes pumping the fuel pump gets it going. the pump is now never hard. the other thing is that when the car doesn't start i wiggled an electrical connection attached to the fuel lines, maybe the fuel cut off sensor, and the car burst into life. now every time the car refuses to start, a quick wiggle and it starts again or starts when it feels like it without me touching the wiring. -
Toyota RAV-4 (1994 - 2000) - 00 2.0 Poor mpg 26 Jan 2010 (Forum)
Anyway, really dissapointed with the mpg so wondering how much Toyota will fleece me to run diagnistics to determine if there is a problem that would affect fuel consumption? or if anyone has had experience of similar low mpg or can offer advice on what might be causing the poor fuel consumption I'd be interested to hear your thoughts/suggestions. Thanks in advance. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 01 2.0 Running problems 17 Jan 2010 (Forum)
About 3 months ago it stalled and would not start up again, eventually when I got it started it would only rev to 2000rpm then smoke like hell and it then cut out and would not start again. I thought maybe I had just ran it out of fuel so I filled it with fuel and it started but still running rough and would not rev. I changed the fuel filter, it took a bit to start but it ran like new until a couple of days ago when it started playing up again even when full of fuel. -
Hydrogen Modification 17 Oct 2009 (Forum)
In this day & age of rising fuel costs & higher taxation i have decided to modify my car to run on a mixture of hydrogen & diesel its a simple procedure of converting tap water to hydrogen gas then fed into the engine along with your existing fuel whether it be petrol or diesel. -
Vauxhall Vectra B facelift (1999 - 2002) - 01 2.2 dti - starting problems 16 Oct 2009 (Forum)
Ive also heard of people putting a non return valve in the system, as i believe im drawing air in but i dont know from where. could this be a simple cure? if so, would you put the valve? On the crimped fuel pipes before the filter or between the filter and the pump?I would rather try the simple cheaper solutions first myself before going to the dealers It was a 2minute job to change the fuel filter but now I wish i never touched it!! -
Volkswagen Polo IV (2002-2005) - 02 1.4 using too much fuel since last week 8 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I do plan to refill and do a proper calculation of mileage but as I cant sleep at night worrying about it I thought that I would post an inital question about it. I remember reading somewhere that tight front discs could cause more fuel to be used could that be a reason. I have yet to take it back to National tyres as yet. I thought that I would ask here first. I am hoping that it maybe just a temporary thing. Thanks -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 03 1.8 LPG fuel problem 7 Oct 2008 (Forum)
I've read some previous posts on lpg which seem to suggest it might be some kind of filter in the gas fuel line. Any advice would be appreciated. -
Vauxhall Corsa B (1993 - 2000) - 1993 1.5 Diesel - Intermittant cutting out 26 Feb 2008 (Forum)
Hubby is having an annoying and potentially dangerous problem with his Corsa. It has done it before, and we initially thought it could be fuel related. He changed filter and ensured never goes below ¼ tank of fuel incase there is any crud floating about that could be blocking the fuel lines. Its been fine for several months now, then last night did it again. -
Peugeot 106 (1991 - 2002) - 1995 1.5 Diesel engine problems - tud5 14 Jan 2008 (Forum)
If the fuel needs changed I'll do it, but I'd rather not throw away a whole tank of fuel just to test if thats the problem!!!! Any ideas on what to try, or what the problem might be? Thanks, Paul. -
Citroen Dispatch HDi under fueling?? 23 Jun 2006 (Forum)
Best acceleration is normally under half throttle, full throttle sometimes appears to strangle to engine and its like hitting a flat spot. Air and Fuel filters appear clean. As far as I can see, its lack of fuel, rather then lack of air, therefore its got to be one of a few things: 1. Injectors 2. Air Flow Sensor (based on similar symptoms I had on old Leon Tdi) 3. -
vw polo cutting out 24 Dec 2003 (Forum)
hi all thanks in advance for your help i have a 1993 L reg polo fox coupe 1.05 litre this occasionally dies in mid traffic with no warning (usually lifting the foot off the throttle or going down the gears (4 speed) from 30 to 70mph. more so after a run of 10 miles or more when things are hot, and possibly more on wet days..sometimes it will run for hundreds of miles without a hiccup performance is not special but seems to run smoothly enough when starting and running the hall effect unit on the end of the cam has been replaced complete with rotor cap etc , new plugs fitted coolant and antifreeze all changed in last 20k service and oil change carried out at 95K new air filter etc (2 months ago) new plugs, have checked under the bonnet for loose connections and sprayed cleaned fuse box passenger side. cleaned and sprayed all the plug together connections accesible. it has been suggested to me it might be a fuel filter problem or fuel pump however i dont know where the fuel filter is as i cant see one directly attachted to the single point injection mechanism under the air filter housing. i dont know if the fuel filter has ever been replaced , certainly not by me in 10K miles. can anyone help or throw some ideas? -
fiesta 1.25 zetec - sticking valve?? 28 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Diagnosed as overfuelling by garage with limited equipment but by the time it was taken for a complete diagnosis evrything was giving a perfect readout. Sainsburys fuel was being used with some short trips and four 30 mile motorway blasts per week. She has switched the fuel to Shell (hopefully more detergent)and I've put through a bottle of "Greased Lightening" fuel system treatment. -
Running diesels on Gas (Update) 14 Dec 2001 (Forum)
The prototype engine has been developed by Westport Innovations, a Canadian firm specialising in the R & D of natural gas engine fuel systems. Unlike other gas engines that use spark ignition, Westport's system uses the diesel cycles high compression. The fuel is added only after the piston has compressed the air. As a result, Westport claims that the diesel engines efficiency and torque are maintained.' -
Dear diary I ran out of fuel today 4 Feb 2010 (Forum)
Well I knew the car needed fuel because the display said "low fuel level" and the yellow light was on in case I couldn't read. The computer also said I had fuel for 34 miles so I arrived at the filling station with 27 miles to go. -
2004 C-Max 2.0 TDCi fueling probs 14 Jan 2007 (Forum)
All ok. 5 days later major loss of power again just as I pulled out onto a dual carraigeway. Took it staright back to said super market to be told " nothing wrong, just needs some fuel in it " ( fuel light came on, on way there-loads still in) and the problem was air bubbles from the return diesel pipe hitting the low lying fuel and these bubbles were bieng sent to the engine hence the loss of power.( pink fluffy dice ) I responded by saying that if the problem returned I wanted it straight to Ford. 4th jan 07, just setting of towards the motor way with wife and 2 year old lad in the back, major loss of power AGAIN!!!!!! -
Mercedes C25DT (Sept 98) Auto (W202) 20 Feb 2006 (Forum)
A BOSCH Agent, Panda Fuel Injector Systems of Fareham, Hampshire, had the car for a week and reported that it was nothing to do with the fuel pump - the Merc agent suggested that the pump might be the problem! A new EGR assembly has also been fitted. -
E10 Petrol 5 Aug 2021 (Forum)
Under plans to cut CO2 emissions, filling stations will be required to sell E10 petrol as their standard unleaded, replacing the current E5. The new fuel has more bioethanol in it, which produces less CO2. The Government says the switch could cut the UK’s emissions by 750,000 tonnes a year. However, the fuel apparently reduces vehicles’ economy and can damage older vehicles! -
