Citroen Dispatch HDi under fueling?? - NeilT
I'll try and keep this post 'simple' as I haven't had any luck in the past getting an answer?? I can be more detailed if required.

Citroen Dispatch Hdi (94bhp with intercooler), 128,000miles. It feels very down on power compared to 1.9TD models, after adding injector cleaner, or on a long run (often towing) it can get better (will hold 70mph uphill rather than slowing to 55 when towing 1300kg trailer/car combo).
Virtually no visible smoke, starts first time every time. Sounds like a bag of nails sometimes until about 3000rpm. Doesn't like to rev sometimes, other times its fine (i.e, 4th gear is pretty much useless after 60mph normally, other times it will pull to 80 just fine).
Best acceleration is normally under half throttle, full throttle sometimes appears to strangle to engine and its like hitting a flat spot. Air and Fuel filters appear clean.

As far as I can see, its lack of fuel, rather then lack of air, therefore its got to be one of a few things:

1. Injectors
2. Air Flow Sensor (based on similar symptoms I had on old Leon Tdi)
3. Blocked cat (based on similar sypmtoms to my uncles Audi A4 Tdi that lacked power)

Any ideas??

Not in limp mode is it? Should bring on the engine management light, provided the bulb is OK of course.

Get it to a dealer and have the fault codes read.

There's many versions of the HDi; [year? engine code RHX?] but most of the Dispatch ones have a vacuum operated butterfly valve between the intercooler pipe and the inlet manifold. These seize up and only open half way. Two minutes work to remove and check.

Cat failures are common. [Modified one now available for three times the price!] Some will also suck the turbo's plastic inlet duct flat when hot. EGR problems could also cause this fault. Do you use supermarket fuel?

Hi,

I'd need to check which engine code it is, but it?s the 94bhp version with Intercooler. It?s a 2001.

I'll check these bits out. I have booked it in to a local diesel specialist for this Friday as they have a diagnostics computer to read the error codes on Citroens. The engine management light come on with the ignition, then goes out after its started.

Whats the idea of the butterfly valve in the I/C pipe?

I don?t think it?s the inlet pipe being sucked flat as it can improve with hard driving, and hence excess heat. Will the engine function ok without a Cat, or does it have a sensor which will bring up errors its it is removed? I know Diesels don't have the same rules at petrols in terms of Cat removal, but I don?t want to get 'other' problems bu doing so.

I never use Supermarket fuel.

As I thought, it seems the MAF was the problem. Ordered a new one today from Eurocar parts for £70 (inc. VAT).
