Volkswagen Passat TDi - VW Passat Head Change problem 23 Apr 2011 (Forum)
It's been back to the garage that done the work twice and they've said they can't find any problems. I took it to another independent VW specialist who told me it was the coolant temperature sensor, charged me £50 and gave it me back with the same fault! This morning I received a Vag Com lead and was having a nose about, just following some things off the net, and there were no fault codes listed but I discovered the cam timing is running at -4.4 and if what I have read is correct it should be between 0.0 and 0.5. -
Vauxhall Zafira 1.6 Club 2007 - Exhaust emission warning light 4 Jan 2011 (Forum)
I did the pedal test and it came up with two fault codes 0115 and 571 (I tried it a few times as the flashing is pretty quick) the first one according to the fault code posting on the sticky refers to the Engine Coolant temperature, which I am pretty certain refers to the fact that my thermostat is not working correctly. But I cannot find any reference to the other code. The car seems to be running smoothly in fact I think my petrol consumption has improved since the fault light came on. -
Renault Clio Diesel 1.5Dci 'Y' Reg - Renault Clio Not firing up; oil can warning light 9 Nov 2010 (Forum)
...I have correct levels of oil and have topped up recently, i have also checked the coolant and topped up there... I've read somewhere that it might be the fuel lines and that they may possibly be clogged up as it is an old car....? might explain why it cut out on me... I've been recommended REDEX as a first option before taking it in to the garage and just wanted to ask on here if anyone had any ideas all comments greatley appreciated Thanks Wil -
Seat Alhambra 1.9Tdi 115bhp-Limp Mode 26 Sep 2010 (Forum)
Reading the threads, other people with the same problem have questioned the turbo itself, the Mass air meter (which has recently been changed) the coolant temperature sensor & the ECU. However, a common trait with this seems to be a split, loose or collapsed rubber pipe related to the turbo/valve. l would be gratfull for any info' on exactly which pipe may be at fault, or any other suggestions. -
2005 Vauxhall Corsa 1.2 16v - Leaking Head Gasket? 24 Jul 2010 (Forum)
Also some slight hesitation when accelerating on cold start in the morning. Funny thing is it doesn't use a drop of coolant, can't see a film of oil in the header tank, can't really check if the oil level is going up as the last muppet filled it above the max mark on the last service but oil in the sump is not creamy at all. -

Ford Fiesta (2000 - 2002) - 02 1.25 Overheating and no hot air!! 5 Sep 2009 (Forum)
I'd had an overheating problem back in October and a local garage had a look and said something about my vents being clogged up etc so hot air couldn't get away from the engine?!?! Anyway they carged me just under a hundred quid for sorting that, putting some coolant in etc and the problem went away... until today. Between then and now I've put a few thousand on the clock, including several 5+ hours drives in one go and had no overheating problem. So after this happened today I rang a different local garage, again on a freinds reccomendation. -
Rover 400 (1995 - 1999) - 96 1.6 cold start/cooling fan on problem 29 Dec 2008 (Forum)
The one thing, looking at the wiring diagram, which could connect the two situations I feel is the coolant temperature sensor, which sends info to the ECU which in turn controls the fuel(including cold starting) and cooling fan amongst other things. So if this sensor goes belly up and sends out a signal that the engine is very hot, then I presume a)the fan kicks in and b)when you start from cold, the ECU is told not to use the automatic choke.Any thoughts would be most welcome as I loathe paying out a small ransom just for having it plugged in at the local dealers! -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2000 1.8 Starting Problem 15 Dec 2008 (Forum)
After I google searched I found the following suggestions: Spark plugs dirty Fuel injection problem causing engine flooding? Fuel pump Cranking sensor Coolant temp sensor I have a feeling it is something to do with fuel, but not sure. It seems to run fine when its running other than occasional slight (up to 2000rpm) revving coming up to junctions when the clutch is depressed (perhaps completely unrelated?). -
Renault Megane (1996 - 1998) - 98 1.4 unusual overheating prob 25 Oct 2008 (Forum)
The problem now is that from cold or when the engine has been allowed to cool down for 40 minutes or more on running it the temperature goes well into the danger zone and coolant boils over from the expansion tank. Immedately that happens the temp drops to usual running temp and runs as normal with no overheating, but if I let the engine cool down and top up again the problem occurs again. -
Citroen Xsara (1997 - 2004) - 2001 2.0 hdi cooling system management problems 22 Aug 2008 (Forum)
Hi all Had this car mot ed last week as earlier announced and sure enough got problems now first one got bill for £257 rear brake pads and discs to fix handbrake which now does not hold the car on a slope failed also on wrong colour rear repeaters which has not been mentioned in previous three tests with same bulbs, they had to be orange also high emmisions for turbo deisel engine corrected by new fuel filter and engine flush collected friday wife drove saturday no apparent problems but today going to dads for fathers day and all lights on dash going mad specifically stop sign flashing with audible warning for about 30 secs red warning light above temp gauge and temp gauge not registering any temp.stopped car got out opened bonnet cooling fan running when engine cold no loss of coolant and they managed to break one of the rubber mounting pylons for the engine cover that I only changed six months ago What is causing all these problems? I suspect that whilst carring out the repair fuel fiter etc. they have broken or dislodged some sensor on water temp that is now telling the engine management system there is a cooling problem when there is not any citroen wizzos who can help. also when we got home can not operate cental door locking with key fob is this connected? -
Ford Focus (1998 - 2004) - 2000 1.8 Temp gauge into red, fan running constant 18 Aug 2008 (Forum)
In other posts (mikej, same car, similar problem without the "broken" heater factor) I picked up references to head gaskets, radiator blockage, coolant factors, temp thermostat but to be honest I don't know where to start. Any help appreciated. Many thanks Mike (H) -
Vauxhall Vectra B (1995 - 1999) - 96 2.0 Running Hot; Sluggish; Won't Start When Hot 14 Jul 2008 (Forum)
When running its about 100 constant sometimes going over but never under 95. I have noticed the 2nd air pump is constantly pumping though. Its had a new thermostat and coolant temperature sensor. Any ideas as to what the issue could be ? -
BMW 5-Series E34 (1987 - 1996) - 89 3.5 535 Sport ABS Issue 16 May 2008 (Forum)
Evening folks, as above having problems with the abs on my 535, basically the story goes, removed the rear axle to replace some bushes and also run some new brake lines as the old ones had corroded. once reassembled everything was fine but then after a couple of days the abs light came on. i assumed it would be a piece of dirt had come lose of the hub rings and got onto the sensor causing it to flag an error, removed the sensors and sure enough there were a couple of large bits of rust stuck to the sensor. removed them reassembled again and the light was out so thought all was well. a few days later i ran the car up to warm on the drive the other day whilst bleeding the coolant and after about 10 minutes the abs light came on so now im back to square one. it could be some more dirt on the sensor but im not sure, or could it be ive got air into the abs unit when replacing the brake lines? -
Ford Mondeo II (1996 - 2000) - 00 1.8 petrol misfire/hesitation 26 Apr 2008 (Forum)
Car was fully serviced about 3k miles ago, has done 110k and the only other issue I can think of is slightly lumpy idling when starting from cold, which my mechanic suggests may be coolant temperature sensor related. Thanks in advance for any ideas! -
Renault Clio 1.4 Engine hesitation prob 6 Oct 2006 (Forum)
So far I have replaced the following: Plugs, Leads, Dizzy cap & rotor. -all where past their best. Coolant Temp sensor. I have also checked the resistance on the Idle stepper motor(bottom 2 pins), and it seems to be within specs, 1-2 ohms when the throttle is closed and open circuit when the throttle is open. -
Focus Mk II 1600 - water around spark pl 24 Apr 2006 (Forum)
Twice I've removed this water - usually several millimetres deep - dried out the area and squirted WD40 around and inside the spark plug connectors but this solution is only temporary - until the next heavy rain. (My guess is that it is rain water getting in since there is no evidence of coolant or washer additives present.) The local main dealers have proved useless - they couldn't even diagnose the problem which prompted me to start looking. When the water in the valley was pointed out to them, the response was (you're gonna love this) "......park the car in the garage when it rains................." -
Vectra 1.8 ECU 13 Apr 2006 (Forum)
We took it to a local garage and they put it on their computer and it showed up some codes:- Coil pack and also p0115 Intake Coolant Temperature Sensor (CTS) malfunction. The garage cleared the coil pack code and tried to clear the CTS code but this kept coming back. We changed the CTS and took car back to garage to have code cleared but it wouldn? -
Rover 220 Turbo (T-Series) piston rings 16 Mar 2004 (Forum)
Only symptom of a problem was major oil leak from the head/block join, usual place for these engines. No performance problems, excess smoke or anything else that I was aware of. Small coolant leak (perhaps 1 litre per 6000 miles). They have done a leakage test on the cylinders - fluid into spark plug holes, pressurise, and see what happens. Fluid leaked out in less than an hour which (they say) means the piston rings are not sealing as they should.
