  My 2CV which has been stood for a couple of years is refusing to start.  The battery is a bit duff, but I've attached a Booster/charger but will this supply enough juice if the battery is completely kapput? I thought initially that the starter motor had seized as it didn't sound like it was turning over at all, but after trying to start it with the starting handle (don't you love old cars!)

  Until last week I did not experience any problem. But after filling up the windscreen wiping fluid the battery is draining. When loaded in rest position it is onlaoding with more than 4 Amps. By excluding checking I found out that it stops unloading when I remove the BCU fuse. Is it possible that it is caused by spilling wiping fluid on some cables or connectors?

  car has started showing battery light  on always when driving and stalling at low revs around 1000  to 1500 revs, there is also a whining noise at low revs (not gear box  ) once car picks up speed ie 30 mph then car runs fine until i stop for traffic lights etc then car is stalling unless revs are kept above 1500 revs car has only done 35000 miles ,problem started today has been fine otherwise

  ahh what have i done,,another problem with me p38,, this range rover of mine has disabled the engine,,, the remote, i assumed wasnt working,,so i changed the batteries,,,,,no good, the lcd display is saying "engine immobilised,press remote," and if you open the car with the key the alarm goes off,, so now the car is sitting outside with the battery disconnected,, is this a job for the landrover garage ?

  The car is driven very regualry so it's unliekly to be because the status of energy in the baterry is low. Is this a simple warning to turn the engine on so that the battery does not get drained. Its a bit of dumb question which I may well have already answered, however could someone give me confirmation. Cheer EF

  Hi, brought the missus a astra without her knowing for xmas, no i connected the battery and in the engine bay top left corner it started sparking when puting battery back on, then smoke started coming out if the interior middle vents a little, iv brought a new battery cohnnected it and still same thing the wipers on the front wont switch off so i had to pull relay out and all the lights work interior/dashboard but when i go to turn it over it just makes a noice like there is no spark. is this a prob with earth wire?

  This week on calling MB 24h when my car won't start, I get a request for a credit card but it's only a precaution in case the cause is a flat battery, that failure isn't covered and the cost is £184! Anyay the car starts, I cancel the call-out before they arrive, find the card has already been debited, they confirm it will be credited. Then a letter arrives later from MB advising it is being charged!

  Multiple explosions some are fairly big with white smoke and flames while everyone is running for cover. Is it possible for the batteries to actually explode? I thought EV batteries can catch fire and can't be put down due to the chemical run off but wasn't aware of actual explosions involved. Maybe there was something on-board of the affected cars but that's anyone's guess.

  Instead it was the alternator. I changed that and after I left the service, at about 20 to 30 minutes I see the battery indicator up.  Checked the altenator and it was realy hot and was making the sound again. I restarted the car and the battery light went off untill after 30 seconds. Alternator is making 14.5-14.6 at idle and right when the battery indicator comes on, lights dim and voltage drops to 13.4-13.6.

  The alternator on my Honda CR-V has packed up.  It looks like there's a short-circuit somewhere because it gets hot and smokes when the battery is connected. I've got a replacement alternator, and now need to drive the car about two miles to the mechanic to get it fitted.  I've got the battery charged, so will have no problem starting the car and driving it for a couple of miles without the alternator running, but I want to disconnect the alternator so it doesn't flatten the battery or (worst case) start a fire.

  Hello all. I recently ran my Corsa battery flat by leaving the lights on. (It was a new battery although only used for one run after installation.)  After finding the battery dead, I managed to find someone with jump leads and after connecting them up, all dash lights came on and the engine turned over, but the car went totally dead again after a couple of seconds.

  The manual for my Mazda 323TD advises the following procedure for using jump leads: Connect a lead from the positive terminal on the discharged battery to the positive terminal on the booster battery; then a lead from the negative terminal on the booster battery to the 'engine hanger' in the discharged car's engine bay. My FiL followed this method to jump start his petrol Corsa C.

  I have always found the battery in my Astra struggles, especially in cold weather. I replaced the standard battery with a heavy duty one last January, but it still struggles during the winter when starting from cold, especially if not used every day.
