  • VW - Towing in Brent 12 Jun 2012 (Forum)
At lunchtime I went back outside to get the ticket in order to pay the fine, only to find that the car had been towed to a pound.  Brent parking people are saying that they are entitled to tow a car if it is not moved within 30 minutes of receiving a ticket...  Can this be legal? Anyone receiving a ticket reasonably assumes that they have been busted for the day - surely it can't be legal to tow the car just 30 minutes later?
  • Tow Ball Bike Carrier - Confidence 23 Aug 2009 (Forum)
I marvel at how the whole thing hangs on the tow ball with just one bolt. Magic.
  • Astra Club Esatate 2001 automatic - Towing 8 Apr 2015 (Forum)
Thinking of purcasing a caravan with a weight of 1200kg. I understand the curb weight of the car is 1250kg. Do you think this would be ok? Stevefg...
  • B Category Driving Licence 26 Apr 2011 (Forum)
(Exceptions for a trailer under 750kgs where GW can be 4250kgs as long as the towing vehicle does not exceed 3500kgs.) I checked the cars ability to tow (1500kgs) and the caravan max weight (950kgs) so all was ok in my mind. It was only after caravanning for a while I noted the exact rules.

  • 2001 306 Hdi - Electrical fault 9 Oct 2018 (Forum)
Plenty of power in battery but wouldn't fire up, RAC called out but they couldn't find the fault so towed to local garage.  Had ignition on for tow and speedo needle and rev counter flicking to extremes (don't think I was being towed at 110mph!!) and dash lights flickering on and off too. Any thoughts as to likely problem would be gratefully received, Thanks
  • EVs - are any rated for towing? 1 Dec 2014 (Forum)
Using a powertrain/suspension from a FWD car with conventional engine, they build a trailer which acts as a "pusher" to give extended range but only on the occasions you need it. The main issue in Europe is that most EVs (? all ?) have a zero towing limit so can't use any form of trailer - we also have stricter trailer regulations than the US. It might be a solution, though.
  • Vauxhall Vivaro - towing with a van 24 Mar 2010 (Forum)
hi, i am looking at purchasing an 03 Vivaro and have a few questions.  the particular one i am looking at is a 1.9Di 2700. i have a caravan i'd like to tow with it when going on holiday - caravan MtPLM 1250kg.  Likely to be any issues?  according to whattowcar it is a reasonable match. can the 1.9Di be tuned for a few extra hP? the reason i am keen on the 1.9Di is that they have the far less problematic 5 speed gear box.
  • Jeep Patriot (2007 - ) - 09 2.0d Front Tow Ball 1 Jan 2010 (Forum)
The vehicle will pull a trailer loaded at no more than 1000kg. Would it be a simple matter to fit a tow ball on the front of the Patriot in order to make moving trailers in restricted areas a little easier ? I might also like to fit a 12V winch. Which ever new vehicle that I buy, it is important to me that moving trailers in confined spaces and retrieving boats from water, usully a slipway, is within the vehicle's capability.
  • Tow Bars, Personalised number plates & the MOT 29 Apr 2009 (Forum)
Haven't seen it mentioned on this site yet to here goes....... W.e.f. yesterday tow bars will be subject to inspection in the annual MOT. http://www.tinyurl.com/d5y7yw You will be aware that it was proposed that prat plates would be no no'd at a MOT but this was dropped. Possible that this is now back in force (not sure haven't seen the reg) http://www.tinyirl.com/c5tarbo dvd Please note my post further down regarding the use of the term prat plates.
  • Range Rover towing weight 2 Dec 2004 (Forum)
What surprised me was a claim and I can't remember the exact phrasing but words to the effect that a 4.4l Range Rover can easily tow a 44 tonne artic - is that plausible? As I said, I was only skimming and didn't get a chance to fully read the arcticle so may have got the wrong end of the stick.... Chad.
  • Towing with new Mondeo 3 Mar 2003 (Forum)
Anybody got any experience of towing a caravan with the new 2.0 and 1.8 petrol models, please? Can\'t afford a TDCi, and anyway I\'ve been a bit put off by all the starting problems etc highlighted in this forum, so I may look for a used petrol model.
  • 2007 mercedes e class saloon 2990 cc 7 speed auto - Towing a caravan 6 May 2016 (Forum)
I want to fit a tow bar to draw a caravan up to the recommended caravan/car weight ratio limit.  The car is as it left the factory unmodified.   The local franchised dealer has confirmed a price of 'at least £4000' but likely considerably more because he says the car needs:- 1,  A larger radiator to keep the engine cool.
  • Mercedes Benz V-Class (1996 - 2003) - Towing for work 10 Jan 2008 (Forum)
Hi everyone been a while since I posted but I have a question that no one at work can asnwer. As part of my job I am going to have to tow a trailer of equipment with one of the company vehicles (Merc V280). The trailer weight is upto 1.5 tonnes and the vehicle weight is about 2.5 tonnes so I am told. I am going to have to take a towing test as I passe my test in 2002 but I have no idea about what class of vehicle/ licence etc as most talk about a combine weight of upto 3.5 tonnes.
  • Towing a new caravan - what with? 1 Jun 2007 (Forum)
I am looking at a caravan (I can hear the boos and hisses already). My knowledge of them dates from the 1970's - i.e. 2 litre car tows a5 berth caravan. 2007 - Apparently not or at least not with my 2 ltr car. The problem is that a caravan to meet the family needs is around 1500Kg +/- A budget for a tow car with say 3-5,000 miles / year (not an every day car) I wanted to be <£10K.
  • Tow bar applications on Audi A2 7 Feb 2006 (Forum)
Iam led to believe A2 cannot receive an aftermarket towbar.Supposedly this due to alloy chassis and steel towbar causing electrolisis. Anyone disagree...
  • 2014 RAV4 - Towing electrics 30 Aug 2020 (Forum)
My otherwise perfect (literally!) 2014 RAV4 has been prone to run down its battery prematurely since fitting towing electrics 4 or so years ago.  It's only a minor inconvenience (as I now use a battery isolator when parking for extended periods) but ideally I would like to fix the issue one day. Everything works as it should, and the electrics are Toyota's official kit (bought from Toyota and a plug in fit).
  • BMW X5 E70 SUV (2007 - ) - 08 3.0 towbar issues 22 Apr 2009 (Forum)
On top of that they have now told me that all E70 X5 models require a new larger cooling fan to be installed when towing. This fitted is another £700.00. Surely having factory ordered the car we should be told that a retrofit towbar is going to cost you £2000.00 and not just £600.00 if factory fitted. Also no where in a bmw x5 manual does it say that the car requires additional extras ( engine part upgrades ) to be able to tow a caravan other than the obvious towbar.Surely this makes the standard car not fit for towing purposes., even though it states towing weights.
